Why Artificial Intelligence Is Always 'Racist'

(Excerpt)

AI can’t tell the difference between what’s true and is acceptable and what’s true and unacceptable. That’s because, as this expert Mutale Nkonde explains, “AI research, development and production is really driven by people who are blind to the impact of race and racism.”

The blind people are, of course, white people.

Needless to say, the ACLU is on the case, with a warning about “how artificial intelligence can deepen racial and economic inequities.”

It says an AI system that decides who will be a good tenant will be racist. That’s because it will include information about eviction and criminal histories – yes, landlords want to know about that – but that’s no good because that information “reflects long standing racial disparities in housing and the criminal legal system that are discriminatory towards marginalized communities.”

I thought this an interesting comment in this excerpt, 'wokeness is a smokescreen for class'...

Stop Gaslighting America

(Excerpt)

The woke worldview of America as an unrepentant white supremacist state in which racism is the cause for every episode that falls afoul of the progressive agenda was cooked up in academia and spread through our highly educated journalist caste. Given its prevalence in national liberal news outlets, it may seem like this is the viewpoint of half the nation. But it's actually representative of a tiny, very white, highly-educated minority.

A recent Pew Research Center study made this clear when it found that just 6 percent of Americans identify as progressives, and just 6 percent of Black Americans; indeed, progressives are the whitest of the subgroups that make up the Democratic coalition.

And it's these progressives–these 6 percent—who have the most woke views on race, for example, the view that 'most U.S. laws and major institutions need to be completely rebuilt because they are fundamentally biased against some racial and ethnic groups.'

In other words, wokeness is a smokescreen for class. And until the Democrats can find a way to signal to voters that they are not catering to this highly-educated 6 percent but are wise to the real struggles of everyday Americans—of all races—they will continue paving the way for a mass exodus of middle- and working-class Americans—of all races—to the Republican Party.

Recent events suggest that the lesson has not been learned. Reports about dysfunction in Vice President Kamala Harris's office were met with woke misdirection. Cable news pundits and the White House press secretary rushed to blame sexism and racism for criticism of the VP.

Meanwhile, in response to a question about the economy, Psaki accused Republicans of 'rooting for inflation' while insisting that no economists were predicting a rise in inflation.

It's just more of the same: Gaslight Americans about the impact of the economy on their pocketbooks while doubling down on what a new college-educated suburban base—which isn't really feeling inflation at all—is looking for: an obsession with race and identity through a woke lens.

It's not just Psaki: Every time you turn on your TV, there are the Democrats putting on woke theatrics instead of catering to the economic and social issues keeping Americans up at night.

Bill Maher calls out AOC for dismissing 'wokeness' critics, challenges her to appear on his show

"Real Time" host Bill Maher ended his final show of the year by challenging Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., to appear on a future telecast. During his closing monologue, Maher attempted to point Democrats in the "right direction" following their devastating defeats in the November elections ahead of the 2022 midterms.

He cited commentary from veteran Democratic strategist James Carville, who blamed his party's losses on "stupid wokeness," a view that Ocasio-Cortez rejected, claiming the term is "almost exclusively used by older people these days … so that should tell you all you need to know."

"What?!" Maher reacted. "This is a term folks like you brought out very recently, had been proudly displaying it every march since. Just last year, The Guardian declared ‘woke’ the ‘word of our era.’ I guess they didn't get the memo from the Mean Girls Club.

"What a great strategy, never missing an opportunity to remind voters how lame and clueless and hopelessly cool they are, especially since those are the ones who actually vote," Maher scolded Ocasio-Cortez. "But OK, fine. What word would you like us to use for the plainly insane excesses of the left that are not liberalism but something completely different? Because you can't have that word ‘liberal' from us and think it should cover things like canceling Lincoln. And teaching third-graders they're oppressors. That's all your new-think."

"OK, fine. What word would you like us to use for the plainly insane excesses of the left?"

The HBO star suggested the "more pertinent question" to ask is why the term "woke" went from being a "rallying cry to a pejorative."

"If the word only made you think of rational, deserved causes like teaching a less whitewashed version of American history, AOC would still want to own it. But it's a joke because it makes you think of people who wake up offended and take orders from Twitter. And their oversensitivity has grown tiresome," Maher said.

Maher went on to say that he'd "love" to have the congresswoman on his show since there's "so much to admire" about her, expressing gratitude toward her for spearheading the Green New Deal.

"But that will probably never happen because Democrats don't go anywhere these days where they're not being adored," Maher said. "And that's my last bit of advice to them. Go where the ‘amen corner’ isn't. Do Fox News. Be brave. Come here. Go everywhere. Winning is about expanding the electorate."

Earlier in the week, Maher railed against Democrats for becoming "completely toxic" to ordinary Americans, particularly in the age of wokeism.

"Woke -- I don't remember the day the term was born, although I hear AOC says, ‘Only old people use it now.’ Well, you gave it to us. Like five years ago. So sorry we didn't get the memo," Maher told CNN anchor Chris Cuomo on Wednesday. "In its best sense, if we're talking about being aware of things we should have always been aware of more, reckonings that we've had … but there's a reason why the term ‘woke’ has come to signify going too far. And doing things that don't make sense."

"I keep saying this to the Democratic Party. The reason why you're so toxic is because you've become the party of no common sense. And people see this on their newsfeeds," Maher said. "They see things on their phone or on their Facebook page, people pass things around and it's a constant drip, drip, drip of ‘Oh, these people are nuts' in a way -- they're not oblivious to the fact that Trump is nuts. When he ran, one of his big selling points was ‘You’ve got no choice.' He was saying, ‘Yes, I know I’m nuts. You know I'm nuts. But they're nuts in a very different way that's closer to home to you.'"

US will now establish woke task force to RENAME any federal lands deemed to have racist names like Squaw Peak in Utah and Chinaman's Gulch in Colorado

The US Department of Interior is creating a new task force to identify federal lands that contain slurs or derogatory terms and rename them, mirroring changes already made by sports franchises and private businesses in recent years. The Derogatory Geographic Names Task Force will include representatives from federal land management agencies along with diversity, equity and inclusion experts, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland announced Friday.

The process will include dialogue with tribes, state and local governments and the public, the department said, adding that it was now classifying the term 'squaw' - referring to an indigenous woman - as officially derogatory.

There are 600 federal land units with the name 'squaw,' according to the Native American Rights Fund, including Squaw Lakes in Oregon. Other places named 'negro,' 'wetback,' and 'Chinaman' - all considered derogatory names for black, Latino and Asian people, respectively - will also likely be re-examined.

The department is also creating an Advisory Committee on Reconciliation in Place Names that will include 'Indian tribes, tribal and Native Hawaiian organizations, civil rights, anthropology, and history experts, and members of the general public.' The proposal was put forth by Haaland, who became the first Native American cabinet member in US history when she was nominated by President Joe Biden and confirmed in March. She is a member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe of New Mexico.

The department says the current re-naming system is structured to act on a case-by-case basis and puts the onus on proponents to suggest name changes, which can take years. 'Currently, there are hundreds of name changes pending before the Board,' the department says.

'The newly established Federal Advisory Committee will facilitate a proactive and systematic development and review of these proposals, in consultation with local community representatives.'

FISHKILL, New York (CNN) -- Welcome to the small, upstate New York town of Fishkill, or should it be called Fishsave ?

All was quiet in Fishkill until an animal rights group, PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, took issue with the town's centuries-old name.

PETA wants the town to change its name, claiming it suggests cruelty to, well, fish.

"It seems like a light-hearted subject at first. But the real issue behind the name of Fishkill is the violent imagery," PETA spokeswoman Anne Sullivan said.

Fishkill Mayor George Carter can't imagine using the name Fishsave on town signs -- like the one for the elementary school.

"Picture that (school) with the new name? Oh, my goodness. Fishsave Elementary School? Good Lord," laughed the mayor.

"I think their proposal is idiotic," he said.

If the town of Fishkill changes its name, then what about the other towns in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey with the stem -kill.

Bushkill, Schuykill, Cresskill, Cobleskill, Fishkill Plains, Peekskill, Plattekill, Poestenkill, Wallkill, West Kill, Wynanstkill...

And don't forget the nearby rivers with similar names: the Fish Kill, the Wall Kill and the Basher Kill.

If the towns and rivers are renamed then the Catskill Mountains of New York should also be renamed.

Kill means creek

Why all the names ending in 'kill'? One definition of the word is channel or creek -- of which there are many in this mountainous Northeast region.

The area around Fishkill, New York, was founded by the Dutch in the early 1600s; the 'kill' part in the name is actually the Dutch word for 'stream.'

Fishkill is a few miles east of the Hudson River, and not far from the Catskill Mountains. It is known for its ski resorts in the winter and campgrounds in the summer.

"We encourage the citizens of any town whose name reflects cruelty to animals to consider changing it," Sullivan said.

So if the town changed its name, would the Fishkill Inn would become the Fishsave Inn?

"This is an old, old establishment," the mayor explained.

"This building's been standing here and it's been Fishkill all along. What would George Washington think? It was Fishkill when he was here," said the inn's owner, Paul Vogelsang.

Residents like town's name

Many residents of Fishkill aren't enthusiastic about considering a name change, either.

"Kill doesn't mean to kill the fish. The name came from the Dutch, you know, and was alright," one said.

Local merchants also haven't taken to the name change.

"Go save the whales or something," one local bar owner said.

Coincidentally, PETA's proposal, which may seem a bit extreme to some, is part of the group's effort to draw attention to an anti-fishing campaign.

However, some local merchants, such as Captain Cliff's Fish Market, are not taking the bait.

"I don't like Fishsave at all,", said Captain Cliff, while cooking up some sauteed lemon Sole.

While PETA may have hoped villagers would swallow its proposal -- hook, line and sinker -- they've had no such luck.

"As long as I'm sitting in this seat, you can rest assured the name Fishkill, New York, will still stay on the map," Carter vowed.

Sounds like PETA didn't bother with basic research before throwing out the proposal.

Should we call it undocumented shopping then? Disbelief as woke criminal experts tell public NOT to call California crime-wave 'looting' because 'it's racist'

Social media ripped woke supposed criminal experts for saying that the public should not refer to the string of thefts across California as 'looting.' Those interviewed by a Bay Area news station, including a professor of criminal justice and ex-cop, think the steals should be referred to as 'organized smash-and-grabs.' The distinction originates from the California penal code, which defines looting as 'theft or burglary... during a 'state of emergency,' 'local emergency' or 'evacuation order resulting from an earthquake, fire, flood, riot or other natural or manmade disaster.' The distinction is important to experts like Lorenzo Boyd, PhD, who is a professor of criminal justice & community policing at the University of New Haven, and a retired veteran police officer. 'Looting is a term that we typically use when people of color or urban dwellers are doing something. We tend not to use that term for other people when they do the exact same thing,' Boyd said. There has been no claim made regarding the identities or races of the thieves involved in the current crime wave.

So is this Boyd fellow suggesting that the term 'looting' should not be used unless, and until, the identity of the thieves has been confirmed as black? He is sounding like the racist here.

Personally I use the term 'looting' to refer to an act of looting. A 'looter' is someone who partakes in looting. I suppose a technical distinction could be made that looting is opportunistic stealing amidst something like a riot, or the chaos of another type of emergency.

Yes he does sound like a racist...I noticed someone on Twitter using this same reasoning (if you can call it that) with the word 'mob(s)' by saying the word is used to describe or imply non-white people...

Exactly, but what if we combined words and said "mobs of people looting shops"?...If the word mob implied non-whites and the word looting implied people of colour, then how does "mobs of people looting shops" make any sense?...Or is this just a mindfuck?...lol

Downfall of the American who became Britain's WOKEST head teacher: She led London's American School but is leaving after a revolt by parents over 'white privilege' indoctrination - and a staff meeting that sparked claims of anti-Semitism

As head teacher of Britain’s most expensive day school, since 2017 Robin Appleby has enjoyed a pay packet to rival those of the turbo-charged bankers, sports stars and celebrities whose ultra-privileged children she educates.

Last year, her basic salary for running the £32,650-a-year American School in London (ASL) was £337,000. She was also paid £25,000 in ‘other remuneration’, plus £34,000 in ‘pension contributions’. In other words, the 56-year-old former English teacher took home very nearly £400,000.

That is more than ten times the pay of the average teacher in the UK, and nearly six times that of the average school head. Not bad for someone employed by a registered charity!

Nothing lasts for ever, though. And last week Mrs Appleby’s lucrative reign at ASL — which has 1,350 students and alumni who include Kathleen Turner and Police drummer Stewart Copeland — came to a juddering halt.

Parents of pupils at the school (who rub shoulders at its gates with the likes of Hollywood siren Salma Hayek and football coach Thierry Henry) were emailed with news of her sudden resignation. She will depart on January 1.

Such a move is highly irregular. ASL has had just eight heads in its 70-year history, and the previous two each served out their full ten-year contracts.

Black Lives Matter calls for month-long boycott of ‘white companies’

The Black Lives Matter movement’s national arm is leading a boycott of "white companies" until New Year’s Day, encouraging supporters to help "end white-supremacist-capitalism" by visiting only Black-owned businesses during the holiday shopping season.

"White-supremacist-capitalism uses policing to protect profits and steal Black life," reads an Instagram post by the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation. "Skip the Black Friday sales and buy exclusively from Black-owned businesses."

"We’re dreaming of a #Blackxmas. That means no spending with white companies from 11/26/2021 – 01/01/2022," the BlackXmas website says.

The organization also calls on supporters to "move your money out of white-corporate banks that finance our oppression and open accounts with Black-owned banks."
