Chair of First UFO Hearing Since 1960s: ‘Someone Has to Do It’

Congress last held a hearing on reports of UFOs -- unidentified flying objects synonymous with space aliens -- in the 1960s, and even in the realm of fiction, Scully and Mulder of “The X-Files” seem to have retired.

“Someone has to do it,” Representative Andre Carson, an Indiana Democrat, says of the need for a public examination of unexplained aerial phenomena. The seven-term lawmaker will oversee a hearing on the issue Tuesday.

Two top defense intelligence officials are set to answer questions from the House Intelligence Committee’s subcommittee on counterterrorism, counterintelligence and counterproliferation as part of the session in Washington that’s scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

“There are ways that we can raise questions that UFO-logists have raised for many years, and just average everyday citizens have raised -- for decades now,” Carson said standing outside the Capitol.

“We all watch television, we’ve heard things, we’ve read things,” he said. “We want to see the footage and have it explained to us. That’s what we want to accomplish.”

Last June, a greatly anticipated declassified report found that more than 140 so-called Unidentified Aerial Phenomena incidents investigated by the government since 2004 -- many reported by naval aviators -- could not be explained.

Digging Deeper

Carson, 47, said there could be national security implications in some of what the committee will learn Tuesday. That’s one reason a classified, closed briefing will follow the public hearing, he added.

The second session is necessary even if it generates fresh suspicion of some government cover-up, Carson said. “Because our enemies will be listening very closely to hear what the military has to say. And we don’t want to give them an advantage over us.”

But he hoped the public portion won’t just be a black hole of government deflection.

“Some experts say 2% to 7% of these sitings are not based on weather balloons or computer malfunctions, or aircraft that is top secret -- we can’t explain it away. So, hopefully we can dig much deeper and find out what’s going on,” he said.

Carson added that he’d personally like to think there’s life beyond Earth.

“I’d like to think in the realm of possibility that there are other life forms out there. Within our solar system, who knows?” said Carson. “Might life forms exist on one of the moons of one of our planets -- I mean, that’s for NASA and other folks to let us know.”

Congress holds historic public UFO hearing, as military struggles to understand 'mystery' flying phenomena

A House Intelligence subcommittee Tuesday is holding the first congressional hearing on UFOs in 50 years, as building evidence on the sightings raises more questions than answers.

"There are a lot of unexplained aerial phenomena. We don't know what they are, and they can't be easily rationalized as weather phenomenon or balloons or anything else. So it's quite a mystery," House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said of the hearing.

"We're going to press them on some very serious issues," Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., who chairs the House Intelligence Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee, added.

Carson said in a statement announcing the hearing that it's crucial for the government to "seriously evaluate and respond to any potential national security risks – especially those we do not fully understand."

'Keep your mouth shut!' Army vets recount how they were told to stay quiet after spotting 'alien craft' in Sinai Desert as Congress holds first hearings into UFOs in more than 50 years

Three former cavalrymen revealed their encounter with a UFO at a Middle East US military base in 2014 – and complained they had no official way to report the strange sighting. Now the three veterans are speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com in a rare on-record interview as the first public Congressional hearings on UFOs in half a century got underway Tuesday. They said they saw eight bright objects hovering and zipping across the sky at incredible speeds from a desert outpost in Sinai, on the Egyptian border, around December 2014. The three cavalry scouts, who are trained in identifying aircraft, believe the objects they witnessed were of non-human origin. One claims he was told ‘keep your mouth shut’ by a senior officer after word spread among his regiment about the sighting.

The men said they were afraid to make official reports about the incident for fear of being sent for a career-damaging psychological evaluation, and said there was no proper process to make such a report anyway. Their case is an example of the concerning incursions of sensitive airspace by apparently technologically sophisticated craft – and the military’s failure to collect data on such incidents or take them seriously. Sergeant Travis Bingham, 36; E4 Specialist Vishal Singh, 29; and Private First Class Dovell Engram, 28, were all stationed at Observation Post 3-1 in Sinai near the south end of the Israel-Egypt border. Their regiment, 3rd Cavalry, was part of a Multinational Force and Observers mission (MFO) deployed to monitor the border for nine months. Engram was the first to spot something strange while on watch in the guard tower one December night. He described being ‘scared s***less’ after seeing a bright, apparent craft in the night sky.

Pentagon shows Congress declassified videos of mysterious objects flashing past pilots and reveal 400 'unidentified aerial phenomena' reports in recent years - including 11 'near-misses'

A House subcommittee is holding its first hearing open to the public on UFOs in more than 50 years on Tuesday, as defense officials played two clips of of unidentified flying objects. One clip was taken from a Navy cockpit in a training area and shows a spherical object floating by the aircraft. Another showed two small triangle-shaped objects flying by the cockpit of an aircraft, spotted through night vision goggles. Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff told the intelligence officials they must 'share as much as we can with the American people, since excessive secrecy only breeds distrust and speculation.' Ronald Moultrie, the Pentagon 's top intelligence official, and Scott Bray, the deputy director of naval intelligence, testified before the panel.

Thanks very much for that link buddy! ... been looking forward to this televised subcommittee for a while now, just to see if there had been any real sea change from the historical abysmal charades of yesteryear.
I'm still somewhat digesting the propriety of this presentation, and will no doubt revisit the video a little later.
.... initial thoughts are that "there wasn't anything new in it"! ... [but I didn't really expect more ... just hoped!]
I was impressed in particular by the professionalism and directness of both Mr. Gallagher's questioning of the old 'UFO/Nuclear-base aspect of ufology [directly testing for snippets about Malmstrom seemed to catch them off guard] , and also the indirect but certain line that Mr. Krishnamoorthi took in basically asking if the clandestine brotherhood of humanity's protection agency [aka the military-government] had ever retrieved , and even back engineered any of these UAP's , I thought was a pretty good question for a true Roswell saucer crash believer like me. ... But of course they got the expected answers of 'book-passing on the Malmstrom incident' and a flat NO! to the retrieval query. ... But I have to once again express my admiration for that Mr. Gallagher, he seemed to be a guy whom knows his onions, and wasn't as comprehensively brushed off as they thought. [pity Robert Hastings wasn't there though].... also, I absolutely loved the fact that this Mr. Lahood was wanting there to be an end put to all of this internet fakery of UFO's by means of punishment for their dollar making hoaxes! ... i'm with him all the way, but sadly it won't happen!... All in all, as i've just had a little time to further digest what I saw a couple of hours ago, and then again just now [with a salad sandwich and a nice cup of tea] ... My initial thoughts of this subcommittee 'show' have been vastly tempered! ... and in fact I now claim to be almost vehemently disappointed! ... For a start, on second viewing I realised that this was just another poorly-baked bone being thrown to the UFO community. None of the guys [whom mattered] were ever going to countenance the possibility of any of these 'UAP's' being anything like extraterrestrial in nature, and the only point of everything they said was to convince people that 'most' of these UAP's were in fact terrestrial drones ... either their own or from China and Russia! ... Their escape route of "wait until the closed session for the answer" was used far too often. ... And their simple unwillingness to stray beyond the 'possible drone identification' cases [ie Malmstrom and the Wilson-Davis memo thing] was in fact pretty amateurish and showed a lot of disrespect for anyone that has studied the subject at all!... More obvious in there contempt for the ufologists amateur and professional alike was their limp choice of video evidence that they deemed appropriate to play for such an important function! ... One video of how night-scopes makes aeroplanes seem triangular in the dark... and one of a pretty good bet that "it's a mylar balloon that we just flew past!" ... why not show the good stuff? ... because this whole thing was intended as no more than a limp pacifier for those mid and low level politicians that keep banging on about wanting answers! ... well now they can say, you got em'... just not real ones!
... So there i've said it! ... it was just about as informative and educational as the last great subcommittee 50 years ago on this great and relevant phenomenon ... Project Blue Book. ..... took me two viewings to see that though. must be getting old lol.

Cheers Buddy.

Does anyone really think that the government/military will be anymore honest than they have in the past? I feel it will be another BS contest with the powers that be holding back any truth they may have in their folders.

Well that was interesting! I see a lot of headlines and claims that there is no proof the objects are alien? What?! They should state the obvious truth from their own testimonies, that actually, there is NO proof that they are from Earth. To wit, They don't know where they come from or where they go to after encounters, They don't understand their propulsion systems, they say there is nothing in the US arsenal that can do what they do, and they even said that China was studying them too! From Russia?? Hilarious. When they do see evidence of a propulsion signature that seems to be being hidden, it "isn't what the would expect". And they are physical objects. And they also said that not just US allies are encountering them, but that they are seen all over the world, by adversaries, too. They conflated the current sightings with the historic sightings studied by Blue Book etc., so they are the same objects.. China or Russia have time traveling drones that went back to the '40s??!! Wow...
I think they will eventually come clean, and if not directly with the public --then with Congress. Remember, they are not in charge of the encounters --the OBJECTS are. They don't want to talk about it, but are having to, because of the pressure recently exerted by the phenomenon, again. They should have been asked that --through a process of elimination, what explanation best suits the phenomenon --ALIEN devices, obviously.
AI controlled alien drones behaving algorithmically and Asymmetrically, a form of long-term contact and surveillance with no Guns Germs and Steel tipping point. Brilliant, really....

As above, so bellow
I don't have time to sit through the whole 1 1/2 hour of Senate Committee on UFO.

Can somebody pls summarise it for me? Are they are going to do anything serious with it?

Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security Ronald Moultrie and Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence Scott Bray testified in the public hearing and the closed hearing following.
The main points:

1. They want to dispel the stigma around reporting UAPs and encourage military personnel to report them and those reports will be part of the ongoing effort to understand UAPs.
2. Bray said that many encounters were so brief that it was difficult to get data; those cases where there is more data would be discussed in the closed hearing
3. There was concern that much information be classified, lest it give our enemies insights into our sensor capabilities.
4. They don't know what the objects are.
5. In those cases where there is propulsion signature management --what is seen is totally unexpected (not conventional).
6. They pledged as much transparency as possible
7. China is studying UAPs
8. They are coordinating with the Space Force, etc.
9. The number of encounters is increasing.....

So, the takeaways form the hearings and other statements:

1. They don't know of any terrestrial power that is capable of making these objects --including the US.
2. They don't understand their propulsion systems
3. They don't know where the objects come from or where they go after encounters
4. Some of the objects perform in ways that no known earthly tech could duplicate
5. The hearing implied that these are the same types of objects seen in the past (40s, 50s), especially relating to dispeling the stigma around past reports.

So.. The evidence thus far rules out any terrestrial source for the objects, which have been here so long that there is zero chance they are from an earthly power --China and Russia didn't have these capabilities 70 years ago --or now. The idea is ridiculous.

Aliens.
