The reality of God?

I read this quote below and do not agree with it...There are many gods worshipped and believed in, not just one, but none can be proven to exist, even in a remote way...There have been debates on the existence of God for years, decades, the argument has been brought up that the human eye alone proves the existence of a creator...Possibly so but does that prove any of the gods currently believed in and worshipped throughout the world created that eye?...I think human civilization can move forward peacefully and lasting without a god in the equation, there are many spiritual people in the world, many want the concept of God within every aspect of humanity whilst there are others who do not want to see this...Belief in a god also has a drawback, it has also inadvertently caused more wars in human history...

"No social system or political regime which denies the reality of God can contribute in any constructive and lasting manner to the advancement of human civilization."

Do I believe in one particular god, first and only god, of course.
Do I believe that we are living inside God, yes?

There is energy flowing throughout the universe, there is consciousness all around us...Native Americans always refer to God as the Great Spirit and Jesus also referred to God has Spirit...Is it logical to suppose there is a source of this energy, a source from which consciousness sprung from?...

I agree.
For me, God is our Universe . Something big, incredible and it is beyond my understanding.

I agree. This could be pantheism or pandeism.

For me, all your gods are an interpretation on your own respective beliefs, upbringings and environments. Some say God, Some say Nirvana.
For me, it i all valid, all your experiences are valid. Only yours and my own interpretations are flawed.
But I believe it is all part of a cosmic conciseness, a oneness, a holographic universe.
That is the reality we all see, and put our own understanding on.

Which in a way they have taken the negative road in that thinking by asking 'why would god create the universe and then abandon it?'...Perhaps they should take this approach, 'god created the universe to grow and evolve without interference'...

Would those members be passalorynchites?...

nivek, that may be one version of pandeism, but I don't go along with that. I don't think god abandoned the universe, I think he/she became the universe. Wherever there is consciousness in the universe, there god is.

There is something like this in the Gospel of Thomas (one of the Nag Hammadi documents):
"Split a piece of wood: I am there. Lift a stone, and you will find me there."

Translation from Olivia's Sinhalese:
"When I read this it makes me confused and almost drives me insane. Do you believe consciousness is God?".

My reply: I know it is difficult to explain, sorry about that. Certainly, consciousness is NOT the same as God, but it may be that our consciousness is derived from God.

I have always thought of God as not a single....entity in the classic sense, but a collective conciseness that is everything, you me, the universe. But not a single all knowing entity.
To me God is, reality. Your interpretation of God is valid, because it is framed upon what you have been taught, and the things that your thoughts hold true. But it is only your interpretation of the reality, not wrong in any way. But I also think that when for example if a Buddhist glimpses enlightenment, that all knowing state of bliss. They are experiencing the same reality as you. Only they interpret their experience through their own understanding and thoughts. But it is the same reality. And so on for all the folks in the world that have a first hand spiritual experience.

So after reading your post, when you say "I think he/she became the universe" are you saying that there was once a single entity, a single omnipotent conciseness in the classic biblical sense that became the universe? Or are you saying god is just a christian name for what is the reality of the collective conciseness that is the universe?
That there never was a single omnipotent creator that waved his/her hands and created everything?
Did that question make sense?

Dundee, yes that is what I am saying. This is consistent with two scientific theories: (a) The big bang. (2) The fine-tuning of cosmological constants. I say that these are scientific "theories". If these theories are disproved, then we will have to think again about pandeism. The fine-tuning of cosmological constants could not have arisen randomly or by chance. A single intelligence was probably responsible for it.

Fine-tuned Universe - Wikipedia

The Wikipedia article does have a section on "Disputes regarding the existence and extent of fine-tuning", so we can't say that the matter is finally settled.

I am not sure why you say that, any series of events that are doomed to failure will fail and disappear from memory.
Any series of events that fit the circumstances will stay. You throw a hand full of stones onto a sloped table all the round ones will roll off, all the flat ones will stay. A colony of creatures living n the table years later may be tempted to say. God must have created the rocks on our table. Look, who else would be smart enough to only make flat rocks so they don't fall off. But the reality was, they were the only ones that worked.
In my opinion the apparent fine tuning of the universe is not there because of a supreme being. Simply because that is all the physics of our universe will permit to exist.
Same with natural selection. I have heard the argument that only god could create something as amazing as the eye.
Well, no. A flower follows the suns path during the day. Who knows what any given flower might evolve into given hundreds of millions of years and some change in the circumstances of our planet.

The following is a quote from the book "The Big Bang and God: An Astro-Theology":

"Fred Hoyle encapsulated the essence of this calculation in his famous
“Boeing 747 analogy.” He wrote:
The chance that life forms might have emerged in this way is compa-
rable with the chance that a tornado sweeping through a junk-yard might
assemble a Boeing 747 from the material therein.
"

Another quote from the same book:

"Our modern materialist heritage prejudices us against acknowledging
theological implications.

'After a long history of industrial progress and materialism that was ruth-
lessly driven by reductionist Cartesian philosophy, we tend to turn away
from even the vaguest hint of a creative origin of life.'
(Wickramasinghe 2001: 183)

This hint of God makes cometary panspermia and cosmic fine-tuning
repugnant to late modern science. Even the vaguest affirmations of the-
ology are now normally excluded from modern science."
