The Mysterious Gnomes of Wollaton Park

It's interesting to me the paranormal claims an individual person might allow or deny - like, Bigfoot might be real but UFOs are bullshit, or ghosts seem plausible but no way Bigfoot is real, and so on. I've never seen a gnome but I like to think there could be something to claims of them. One of my favorite sightings to read about, really.

I just finished the book Greybeard by Brian Aldiss, which is science fiction. The book, published in the very early 60s, is set about 50 years after misguided nuclear testing rendered almost all humans sterile. The portrait of a society where the youngest members are in their 50s is, for my money, well-realized. But I mention it because some of the characters in the story claim they see gnomes in the woods, and there is a brief debate, gnomes aren't real vs. well, animals are making a comeback as the number of humans decline, perhaps the gnomes are too.

Good book, amazing in its way, but depressing.

Also: gnomes forever!

Also more on gnomes: anyone else here fascinated by the non-existent book Proofs of My Return?

John Palifox Key --a mystery
