The soccer team and their coach have been located. They may have to stay in the cave for months due to heavy rain and flooding.
Thai cave survivors will have to learn to dive amid fears rainfall | Daily Mail Online
Tham Luang cave rescue - Wikipedia
Twelve Thai boys aged 11-16 and football coach were lost in Thamg Luang cave in Chiang Rai for nine days
  • All of the group were miraculously found starving but alive by two British volunteer cave divers on Monday
  • Family members who feared their kids were dead rejoiced as they heard confirmation they'd been found alive
  • Experts said boys may have to wait for months for water levels to subside because they can't swim or dive
  • Two Thai Navy doctors have volunteered to stay with the trapped children until the water levels are lower
  • But there are fears of rain fall in the coming days meaning boys may have to learn to dive and swim through narrow gaps themselves

I didn't read the whole story so I don't know why they went over 3 miles into that cave to begin with?...

It was fantastic to hear they have all been found, and alive, after so many days underground. I can't imagine what it must have been like for their coach - the only adult there, responsible for twelve boys, having to keep their spirits up for so many days. I know they were hungry, they couldn't communicate with the outside world, couldn't go anywhere, and I would guess after so many days they were in the dark, with no idea how much time had passed, and if anyone would find them.

I read that digging down to them would involve having to get heavy equipment through some rough terrain. I guess it's possible to do but, didn't sound like a great option. Getting them all back through flooded channels is being described as quite dangerous as well - apparently most of the boys are not swimmers, let alone experienced divers, and it's quite easy to get turn around when cave diving (or so I read). I'm sure no one wants to accept leaving them where they are, but supplied and with a phone line, for four more months until the rainy season has passed.

It seems a daunting problem but there is hope. I don't know what the risk is their current location will become flooded. That would force authorities' hands, I would think. I am hopeful some of the risks and challenges are being exaggerated a little, and they are safely reunited with their families soon.

There is hope to get them out, but they also may have to stay in that cave for months, I think it may be too risky to drill down or dig down to reach them...With all of the heavy rains and continuing rains they risk flooding the cave location where the boys are at or collapsing the cave by digging down...

If they cannot swim the boys out its best to take supplies and keep the boys in the cave but safe until the waters recede...The authorities are asking for donations for full-face scuba diving masks for the boys to use which are easier for beginners to use than normal air regulators that fit into the mouth...Surely they can get whatever they need to rescue the boys...

This scenario is being played for a reason. How the hell did they get two miles into that cave system without proper equipment? Who in their right mind would go in wearing just shorts and T-shirts? They could have been mind controlled into entering the cave. Their bicycles were neatly lined up outside as if staged for effect. If grown men can get to them and return to the surface then they could easily get them out. Depending on water temperature they would only need the following items: a wetsuit, mask and a respirator and there's usually two coming off a SCUBA tank. They don't need to know how to swim. Past history states this is an orchestrated script to introduce the individuals onto the world stage. It's like the Jesus script of one teacher and twelve apostles. Who could be behind this crafted event?

The main thing I do not understand, unless there just was a real serious lack of common sense, why did they go so far into that cave?...As you said, no gear, they did not have provisions just in case, but more strange too is they took one small flashlight...If as they said it was some sort of local initiation thing with these kids, then they planned to go to the cave and should have planned appropriately for such a venture...

It is kind of strange they would line their bikes up so neatly outside but were so sloppy in their own personal safety, if not the kids, the adult should have considered safety issues...The only problem I can see with leading the kids out underwater is distance, if the kids who cannot swim are forced to stay underwater too long they will panic and drown...I'm not a diver so there may be other considerations I'm not seeing...It looks from the map like there may be a spot about midway that could be extended time underwater depending on the water levels...

These boys are stronger in mind than many grown men together, and will make it out of the cave. No doubt about it.

Their leader will have a tough time thoo.. hes got many questions to answer from the public, the authorities, and the families.

My sincerest wishes for their wellbeing, right now, and in the future outside the cave.

And the Thai and UK rescue team divers.. thats respect.. omg

They could be taught to swim and scuba dive today or tomorrow.
British Cave explorer says we will know fate of Thai boys in 24hours | Daily Mail Online
Twelve boys trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand will be taught how to swim and scuba dive either today or tomorrow so they can be chaperoned out in a petrifying four-hour journey under mud-clogged water, it emerged this morning.

British cave explorer Vern Unsworth, who is advising the international operation to rescue the youth soccer team, has said we will know if the boys are likely to survive their horrendous ordeal within the next 24 hours.

The youngsters aged 11 to 16 and their 25-year-old coach were on Monday found alive by British volunteer divers John Volanthen and Rick Stanton after nine days lost in the Thamg Luang cave network in the country's north, which they reportedly entered as part of an initiation ritual.

Officials were facing a stark choice to either keep the terrified boys in the pitch-black cave for up to four months until the water level subsides or teach them how to dive and guide them out through narrow passages and murky waters.

With heavy monsoon rains expected in the next three days which could cut the boys off from help and supplies, they have taken the 'unbelievably dangerous' option to chaperone them 1.5miles to the cave entrance through water likened to 'cold coffee'.

Thai Interior Minister Anupong Paojinda has said the boys' only chance is to swim out through the flooded underground network and that swimming lessons will start on Wednesday or Thursday. He said on Wednesday: 'There are no other options besides getting them out through the flooded passages.'

Mr Unsworth, a British cave explorer based in Chiang Ra who was called in to help the rescue efforts, has said the next 24 hours is make or break for the boys.

My impression is they went into the cave, when it was dry, then a sudden flash tropical rainstorm hit and running water blocked their path back to the exit. Rising water forced them the only available direction, further and further into the cave to seek higher ground.

That said, pity they didn't know or heed warnings going into this cave was a bad idea in or just before the rainy season. At least, seems so to me - if others know more please enlighten us.

I still think it's a miracle they were all together, alive and in good health after nine days in the cave, and that they were found. It gives me hope.

You got that right, that coach will get skinned so to speak, he's responsible for those boys, they should not have gone into that cave with one flashlight and one adult...

This hits on a couple questions I have, how long from the time they got off those bikes until they realized the heavy rains were going to trap them if they didn't get out until they saw it was too late?...Did they remain in the front part of the cave, let's say the first mile, but the water pushed them back into the cave further or did they intend on venturing back more than 3 miles into the cave to begin with?...When they parked their bikes was there any signs of a torrential rainstorm approaching?...

Apparently authorities pumped out over 31 million gallons of water in an attempt to lower the water enough for the boys to get out but the water keeps being replenished by the torrential rains...If they have to remain in there for months, they will have plenty of time to train to swim and dive, it seems they need to start the training, if it takes a month or two or less to get everyone ready...

thai-soccer-boys-trapped-in-cave-4.jpg

The boys have reported hearing sounds from outside so assuming they were not hearing things it could mean there are likely some vertical shafts that can provide access to the cave...Authorities have been searching for existing vertical shafts that could be used to reach the stranded kids from above...

I'm heard the authorities were leaning towards giving the boys a crash course in scuba diving as @Toroid mentioned above. The potential harm from that venture scares the living heebie jeebies out of me.

An expert Navy seal diver agrees it's too dangerous to make those boys dive out of there...They said some of them are very weak from malnutrition...

a former US Navy SEAL with thousands of hours of experience of diving in difficult conditions has warned that there will be fatalities if the children have to dive out.

Cade Courtley said the situation was currently stable and non life threatening, but that 'some of these kids are going to die' if they are made to swim through the narrow dark tunnels.

They accidently pumped water back into the cave. There's obviously people on site that are trying to extend their stay in the cave. Maybe the whole thing is a distraction away from other events.
Monsoon that could trap Thai football team to start within hours | Daily Mail Online
Twelve Thai boys and football coach trapped in flooded cave for 12 days
  • On Thursday rescuers started looking for a 'chimney hole' from the surface
  • Volunteers have accidentally pumped drained water back into the caves
  • A new phone is being taken to the cave after previous device fell in the water
  • Rescuers hope that caves can be drained and the boys can wade to safety
  • But monsoonal rain is due to start today and that could flood it for months

Yeah I couldn't believe that when I read it, these people were not sanctioned to do anything, they took it upon themselves to divert water back into the cave without informing the authorities, but too, how long did they get away with it before they were caught?...Seems the authorities do not have the level of control over that situation as they want the world to believe...

I find it normal, caves are nice to explore, usually kids are the ones who like to explore the caves the most, just that maybe he didn't expect the rain to come and water to rise up that fast, idk how the weather is like there but here it's quite unpredictable, it can suddently rain even in very hot weather.
