But to be specific the law that i refer to, would be the law that Mr Steinberg would be able to use to prosecute his case.
So thats US law at a federal level and state law where he lives in Arizona.
There may be some international law he might invoke, but .......... nah just nah.
Its been a long standing tradition in the UFO genre that we self regulate and expose the fraudsters in our midst.
And thats how it should be in a community that takes this subject seriously.
Its just my opinion mind you, but i think this topic, this question is the single most important one our species has ever faced. Its the most important question. The most important idea we have to grapple with.
Are we alone in this vast and wonderful universe ?
Ppl like Steinberg who use it to make a quick and easy buck dont serve us or the question well.
He is the Chaff,where those of us who are passionate about the subject look for grains of wheat.
He deserves to be called out as a fraud and distraction. I would not say so unless i was convinced that was the absolute truth. Those who have known me for decades know i like to give the benefit of the doubt.
Gene gets none. The evidence is damning. and in the court of public opinion he has been found by a jury of his peers.

So just to be clear. Its the 21st century, 3rd rock from the sun. Multiple tribes rule this mudball and they each have their own laws. Defamation is processed according to local jurisdiction despite a global data net.
Its something that will need to be addressed going forward and i cant say any more without violating the temporal prime directive.
Rest assured in the temporal frame reference Mr Steinberg will live and die in, his options are very limited.

Of course he would need to be assessed by Arizona Medicaid and found to need a level of care typically provided by skilled nursing homes. Room and board for senior housing is not covered. I don't know that Gene needs this level of care at the moment- and hope that he does not -- but that is something that cannot be resolved in these forums. Regardless, people have long been advising him to pursue various options for housing assistance, dental care, and other needs.
It's been a long time since I was in law school and studied defamation and civil actions, but agree that there is no case here (short of proving that a particular person hacked his bank account). You may be right that the threats are intended to portray himself as a victim, but to me they do not help him.
I see Gene's references to legal actions as wanting to get emotional satisfaction, but as I have told my clients, the courts are not in that business and are probably the last place to get it.

This has been happening for years and is still is.
Some people has been in Paracast for years, so most likely they'll want to know and talk about it.
Besides we don't really know what happend nor what they've been through, so who are we to judge imo.

It's not surprising in this field. How many people gave a ton of money to Ed Dames for his bullshit remote viewing kit that's been promoted on Coast to Coast for a couple decades plus now. How many people gave a ton to Steven Greer so he can charge them to go out and look at the sky in night vision goggles. Or Sean David Morton and whatever he was peddling.
It's not just the fact some podcaster might wrangle in some bucks from some unsuspecting listeners who don't know the situation and are getting conned, but this crap goes on ALL the time in the UFO field and it gets seriously old. It all adds up when you just get a massive amount of frauds constantly looking for a way to line their pockets, for whatever their motive is. Someone trying to learn more about the subject has to deal with all the bullshit in the field before they can even get real information. All this, at a time where there have been mainstream stories about the subject.
I think this is why it annoys people, because initially the show was actually doing a good job of calling out frauds and there were few shows to do that. But it turns out the host is one himself and ran off his two co-hosts along with countless guests.

I definitely think something about the 'UFO field' or 'paranormal field' or whatever we might like to call it has helped enable Gene and his curious method of operating. This is just my own feeling... it appears he could've been mixed up in some shady dealings, or at least was comfortable not paying his bills, prior to the Paracast. And there is evidence online of a not-so-winning personality exhibited on Usenet and elsewhere, again prior to the Paracast. But I feel this field has provided fertile soil for some of his worst tendencies.
It is rather remarkable now to think the Paracast originally made its bones calling out frauds. I have to wonder what was going through Gene's head when David Biedny was relishing chewing up Bill Knell and (iirc) talking about doing a takedown like that once a year. I mean, I know we're all heroes in our own stories but even so I can't think Gene could've been comfortable with that idea, realizing someone might in turn eventually put a light on Numis Gems.
It is my own suspicion within the paranormal field at large there is a tendency among those making a living there to give their peers a pass on some things, because everyone has some bullshit they've peddled at some point or another. I don't necessarily mean real fraud or delusions, just, well, if you are in the business of putting out books regularly on fringe topics, likely some of them are going to be a little flimsy now and then. That's just how it goes. But Biedny wanted to hold people's feet to the fire, separate the signal from the noise, and so on, and I think it wound up driving him a bit crazy. Gene had done some work in this field already and might've been more cautious about turning into "Cops: UFOlogy".
And you really can't have someone positioning themselves as the Gold Standard, the critical thinkers, the guys who are tough on the frauds and snake oil salesman, who then are not holding themselves to any kind of standard. Just makes the whole thing a bad joke.
I will say though - Gene still gets some really interesting guests. He puts out a show once a week which is no small feat. He has an online forum that thrived for a long time post Facebook. The guy is not anyone I'd want to be in business with or support, sadly, but when it comes to podcasting, the guy is no fraud. It is a shame he can't stop himself from asking other people for money for unending 'emergencies'. I like to think he could've made the money another way.
