Hey, Folks: My friend and colleague Gene Steinberg, is in incredibly dire straits. He's a lifetime broadcaster, the host and the driving force behind the Paracast and his Mac-and-gadget show, the Tech Night Owl Live, and author of no less than _thirty_ nonfiction books about computing.

Gene's also an accomplished science fiction author as well, having co-written the first 2 books in the old-school science fiction "Rockoids"* trilogy, with his son, Grayson--now, he needs your help, So I'll let him take over from here and explain why:

Hi, neighbors:

On the evening of May 10, a summons was left on my front door that sets a date of May 16 for an eviction hearing in a local court. The landlord is demanding $2,347.53, including legal fees, to allow me to stay.

If that money isn’t paid by the hearing date, the court would approve the order. A deputy sheriff will show up a few days later and give me 15 minutes to pack up and leave.
This is the absolute worst thing that can happen. I have no Plan B. I have nowhere to go.

Meantime, a lawyer is helping me deal with all my other debts, but the eviction is the most immediate threat.
Life is not easy for a senior citizen with money problems.
I realize you may have already sent a donation, that you’ve done your share. But if you can help, please do so. As you see, time is short, and I need to get past this dry period to move on and rebuild my life.

Please send your donation via PayPal. You may send it to gene@technightowl.com or use a Donation button on any of my sites. If you have a problem sending me a donation, please let me know.

Here’s another way to send a donation: Please go to:https://www.paypal.com and enter the email address: gene@technightowl.com into the 'to' box. If you use the “friends or family” option in PayPal when you send me a donation, they WON’T deduct the nearly 3% fee from the amount I receive.

You can also use PayPal with any major credit or debit card. You don’t have to have PayPal or a PayPal account to use it, and it's 100% secure. Please check it out at www.paypal.com.

If you don’t want to use PayPal, let me know and I’ll work out a different way to receive a donation.
If you’re not able to help, please Like, Share and repost.

Thanks again for paying attention to my plight.

Peace,

Gene

Thanks again, guys, for anything you can help with--if you have $5 for a cup of coffee, consider buying one for Gene (except it will go toward his rent, bills and not getting evicted). I worked for Gene selling ads for his website and radio shows oh, around a decade ago, and my commissions were generous for all the new business I generated while I was the business development director for Gene.

Thank you, friends. I know you would do the same for for just about anyone in a serious plight as Gene is.

In case you are concerned that this might be a scam, Gene also has a fundraiser here: https://www.gofundme.com/genesteinberg, that is 100% secure--as is PayPal--Elon Musk's old company!
He prefers PayPal, however (all you need is a debit or credit card, no membership or fees required) as you can send him funds using "Friends and Family" and they won't take anything out for the transfer.

Thank you, my peeps and FBBFFs. You're all heart.

--Gil Bavel

P.S.: I know this is a bit left of center for this group, especially right now, but
if Gene actually gets evicted--I don't know where he'd do the show from. Anyway, I kicked in $20 I can't afford, but it won't get me evicted, and Gene _will_ be if we don't mobilize as a group to help out with whatever we can.

New update from news@theparacast.com - "A last-minute request!":

Hi,

I have one emergency request.

Today I have to renew the motel reservation to stay here.

Can you help?

If you haven’t joined The Paracast+ and The Tech Night Owl LIVE+, please subscribe and help support my shows.

Or you can send a donation to help me survive and get past this nightmare.

If you can send a donation, please go to: Send Money, Pay Online or Set Up a Merchant Account - PayPal, login and use the Send to friends and family option. Enter my email address, gene@technightowl.com, and click or tap Next to continue the transaction.

PayPal now has a way to do instant transfers to a bank account for a 1% fe, so it’s the best way to help.

But I can also accept donations through Facebook Messenger and Apple Pay Cash via the Messages app. I’ve also established a Facebook fundraiser, but it takes at least 7 days for payment to be sent to my bank.

If you’re not able to send a donation, feel free to forward this message to someone who might assist.

If you have any questions about my living situation, please let me know.

To receive regular updates, please sign up here: Gene Steinberg's Personal Messages

Peace,
Gene

The man has no shame...

Of that there is no doubt.

There are more than enough good causes in the world to donate to such as eradicating preventable diseases, giving people clean water, feeding the hungry, helping the displaced, curing cancers, rescuing abandoned pets/animals in need, helping disaster victims etc. etc. - yet this man thinks that enabling his pathological behaviour and living beyond his means is more important than all of those.

But wait, if you promise to send him some money he might at a future date send a few cents to a real good cause in the future - like he said during a previous natural disaster.

Don't hold your breath though he will like need those cents to continue not paying his rent and driving a new car in the future too.

Did he really think he could raise $2,347.53 in a hurry via donations ?

Thats insane.

Well l guess I'm taking a big gamble by assuming that $2,347.53 might have been back rent that was actually owed in the first place, so another way of looking at this is Gene is just being a deadbeat. If he holds out long enough and doesn't leave the property to go munch at Denny's he might achieve squaters rights.

I don't know how much of that amount is to recover legal fees but that sounds (I could be wrong) like a good 3 months rent at least assuming they aren't living "above their means," naaaa, couldn't be. Could squatter's rights be in the cards?

To have such a crisis yet he posts small talk of a political nature on his board this morning, if I was in such dire straights politics would be my least of worries lol...

...

Well he could be laying the groundwork to be laying this at Trump's feet, the thing is Trump has got bigger things to deal with.

And I still don't give a plugged nickel for him, but one deadbeat at a time.

Maybe it's a deposit for a new car finance package. Or maybe he needs to self publish another instalment of "Attack of the Haemorrhoids".

I think he's legit shook by the bankruptcy being made public with his expenses. Notice he hasn't even mentioned it, because he doesn't want to bring attention to it. He's tightened up his begging, because the more he says, the more it exposes his own irresponsibility.

The only snide response afterwards was just stating that people think he gets himself evicted on purpose and enjoys the stress.

No Gene, that's not the point: the point is you know what situation you're putting yourself into each time you refuse to do actual work, like finding a retail job to supplement your income.

Or just refusing to live a more modest life in general, as your bankruptcy filing shows, with at least $1500 a month of discretionary spending that isn't required to live and keep a roof over your head.

The refusal to do either is on purpose, and that has consequences. Then you expect others to pay for those consequences.

A Google search shows the guy has his own info. He looks like another hard luck 'sci-fi writer' Gene has associated with.

I doubt he's Gene Steinberg in disguise. I don't want to give Gene another strawman for him to post how his stalkers are claiming he's another person to add to his persecution complex.

However, there is this that is coming out:

Jack Brewer‏ @TheUFOTrail 2h2 hours ago

In Steinberg's 112th emailed cash solicitation of the year, he states he has "one emergency request." Meanwhile, the SGRC uncovers evidence Gene operated Cross-Country Consultants, which reportedly provided investment advice.

Who in their right mind would ask Gene Steinberg for investment advice? It sounds like something he made up to try to scam people out of money.

Yeah I think Gil Bavel is a real person. I think he just happens to think Gene is a good guy.

Curious about the Cross-Country Consultants thing; investment advice from Gene, horrifying to contemplate. Yet likely fertile soil for a con man.

It just gets worse and worse. A man who is bankrupt (and whose only career is begging) giving others investment advice. If someone made up Steinberg as a fictional character nobody would find him believable.
