John McCain dies at 81: War hero, father and presidential candidate fought aggressive brain cancer | Daily Mail Online
John Sidney McCain III, who was born August 29, 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone, has died after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer
  • He died at home in Hidden Valley, Arizona, surrounded by his wife Cindy and his family at 4:28pm on Saturday
  • McCain hailed from a decorated military family; both his father and grandfather were four-star admirals in the United States Navy
  • He followed their example and attended the United States Naval Academy before training as a naval pilot and volunteering for Vietnam combat missions
  • McCain was shot down in 1967 and spent more than five years as a prisoner of war, refusing release until all POWs captured before him had been freed
  • He was released in 1973 following the Paris Peace Accords, which ended direct US military involvement in Vietnam, and returned home with extensive injuries
  • He retired from the Navy in 1981 - the same year he married his second wife, Cindy - and ran for Congress the following year
  • McCain served in Congress for more than 30 years and made two unsuccessful bids for the US presidency as a Republican candidate
  • McCain is survived by his wife, Cindy, seven children and several grandchildren
  • He told graduates of the US Naval Academy in October of his 'sense of honor' and added: 'May your lives be as lucky as mine'

Nice tribute to McCain by Jeff Flake to his mentor. He gets a little emotional near the end when they played a tribute to Flake by McCain when he announced he would not be seeking another term (because of Trump) to Senate position.

He is lucky to have lived so long......one could never question his or his families service to our country.

He was the last presidential candidate I was excited about voting for.

There is so little I can say on this Subject, For years now, I've been tuning politics out. I don't know any of McCains' policies or if he's a good or bad person, I just Know, He had a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, And As one Human to another, That really sucks, and I wish his family The Best.

I've seen a lot of people say a verity of things about McCain on Twitter, The way I see it is like this, Everyone can think what they will about a person's life, But when someone dies, We should consider not disrespecting the Dead.

The dead are not here to speak for themselves, They cannot defend or deny the accusations, When someone dies, So does their past deeds. We should all Respect those who have passed. Not because we liked those people, But because we are Moral, Decent upstanding people who realize, everyone's time comes to an end some day.

Maybe not everyone will agree with Me, But, I feel that disrespecting someone who recently passed away, is the ultimate act of cowardice Simply because we know that person can not defend themselves.

By the way, This isn't aimed at anyone here. No no no, This is just my overall reply to all the negativity I've seen on twitter about him, Like this. Victoria on Twitter , It was just unnecessary. Why that bothers me is. Sure anyone can say whatever they want to, But there are layers to conversation ironically If someone says that about a dead person, That person can't defend themselves, It's utterly classless.

People hated Sadam Hussain, But If I passed his Dead body, I'd show it the proper Human respect.

That's just me.

He was the man who intervened to provoke and promote warlike conflicts with great human losses in at least three continents.

Maybe. McCain never had the power to start a war. as a senator he could have voted on a war resolution.
He certainly was not known as a warhawk.
Former Senator Fiengold who helped craft a lasting reform Will be at his funeral.
It is telling that Trump will not attend.

I beg to differ. Just do a Google search on the words “McCain and Warhawk”. I think you will find more than enough information that McCain wanted to start wars all over the globe.

To get the unvarnished truth about war you only need to read “War Is A Racket” by General Smedley Butler. Butler was a decorated soldier who got the insiders view of why we go to war and who profits by it.
