Chicago's moon red due to wildfires?

I'm sorry for the I phone pic I don't have a DSLR yet. I noticed the moon was red and it's 11pm as of now here in Chicago. I googled why the moon might be red and found a news article in Colorado reporting the same thing due to wildfires in Montana. I guess it's affecting us here to.

12:47 am and the moon is a lot brighter than earlier......I use to be able to stick my phone in my binoculars but they broke :(

How high in the sky was the first image compared to the second one?...

The moon was pretty high in the sky. The moon was about the same elevation on both pics. The only difference is on the second image taken about an hour later, the moon was a bit more to the east

There has been a lot of wildfires this year.
Not in my area of the country.
It just rains here every day or two.
One of the more rainy years we have had in a very long time.

My area isn't known for them either.....due to frequent rain like you. The wildfires that affected my area were up south of Hudson Bay.
