Gene Steinberg's Financial Shenanigans @ Paracast forums

Seems every afternoon or evening I check my email there is a little present for me from Gene, just found this new gem:

He's such a depressing asshole.

These appeals are coming at such a break neck speed now that I don't even bother reading them.

BTW did someone tell Ryan Sprague about Gene still using his book as an incentive? Ryan is a good dude and I know he requested the books not to be used that way after being made aware of Gene's grift.

If he is truly at or near zero, it seems impossible that he could pay for both the motel room and his storage fees. I am skeptical he is anywhere near zero. But as others have pointed out, saying "I'm squeaking by but would like your donations so I can save up for an apartment I can't afford" might just be a non-starter.

He desperately needs a shift in storylines because the the "pay for my hotel" is becoming played out. You can see the setup for helping fund the website. Something is going to go wrong and he is using his tried and true "taking longer than expected." My guess is the person he has doing it will leave the project half done and thus he needs to find someone to finish it.

When I read that Steinberg and his wife get $1700 per month for Social Security that tells me something. That sum is low ($850 average) for two people. He and his wife probably had zero jobs that paid anything over their lifetimes and they opted out at 62.

Seems I got the last one out just in time. I think this new message suggests that he is sending out extra begging requests to members of the forum which is odd because I suspect most of those people are also on the newsletter list so will get the same kind of crap multiple times. Anyway here it is less than an hour after the previous one:

A Personal Request!

I have never before used the forum membership to send emails about my personal situation, but you’ve probably heard about it.

In June, Barbara and I were evicted from our apartment and we’ve lived in an inexpensive motel since.

Motels are more expensive than an apartment, but here we stay until we find a new place to live. There are no nearby friends or relatives who can take us in.

During this time, I have produced The Paracast and the After The Paracast podcast every single week without exception. We have a terrific show scheduled this week with author David Halperin.

But here’s my current situation:

As of today, my bank accounts are near zero. I have to pay the motel later today to continue to stay here. Tomorrow I have to pay the storage facility so they will store our furniture for another month.

I’m coping with other obligations best I can.

But great things our coming.

Anders, our web developer/marketing person, is finishing up work on the upgraded YouTube channel and the Paracast site. Both will debut soon. You can already see some of the new artwork at YouTube.

In the meantime, are you able to help me survive for a few more days?

I welcome your subscription to our premium packages for the two radio shows, The Paracast+ and The Tech Night Owl+.

Yes they probably had low paying jobs or low average of wages through their lives, from the sounds of it, his wife probably didn't work much at all, so their monthly checks are going to be low...I recently saw an average SS income I possibly could receive once I retire provided to me through my 401k account...

My and my wife’s SS monthly payment is considerably more than Steinberg’s sum. He worked for himself or low paying jobs.

Yes possibly this fellow "Anders" with no surname or company name will vanish into thin air (if he ever existed). Then Gene will have to hire someone at the last minute at even greater expense to finish off the work that's done. Later the person who Gene hired to fix it (who may also be fictional) will find that no work was actually done and they have to start from scratch which will mean an even bigger bill and so on....

Yeah I wasn't going to say but the estimate from my 401k was considerably more too...I won't be retiring for another 20 years though so it may not be around for me...

Remember, for a long time he was an author of computer books.

He wrote what, three? Four, maybe? I'd assume he popped about 10k, maybe 20k per, because these were how-to's, and you can likely count that as his income for those years, so it works out.
