Mysterious Closing of Observatory

Mysterious 'security issue' forces a solar observatory to be evacuated
The sudden closure of the Sunspot Solar Observatory in New Mexico has everyone talking -- everyone but authorities.
The facility focuses on solar research, and its telescope is one of the best ground-based solar observatories in the world. But on September 6, the observatory was evacuated because of a "security issue," and it remains closed and under FBI investigation.
Government officials have not given a clear explanation of what the issue is, however, and this has prompted wild speculation.
One popular theory circulating online is that aliens or UFOs could be the reason for the concern. The observatory is about 85 miles southwest of Roswell, where a mysterious object crashed in 1947, launching decades of talk about the wreckage.
The above speculations are denied by the government.

Some sources say 6 other observatories were also closed at around the same time, but I can't find the source of the claim. In fact, Linda Moulton Howe, of all people has debunked that claim.

There is a video from a few days ago of a man exploring the abandoned, unguarded facility.

But as of the 14th, guards have been posted.

Here's the Earthfiles article:

Sunday Update: Security Guards Now Posted At Sunspot Observatory’s Yellow-Taped Entrance

Apparently it will reopen tomorrow.

BREAKING: Sunspot Solar Observatory to reopen after FBI investigation
On September 6th the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) made the decision to temporarily vacate the Sunspot Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak, New Mexico as a precautionary measure while addressing a security issue. The facility closed down in an orderly fashion and is now re-opening. The residents that vacated their homes will be returning to the site, and all employees will return to work this week. AURA has been cooperating with an on-going law enforcement investigation of criminal activity that occurred at Sacramento Peak. During this time, we became concerned that a suspect in the investigation potentially posed a threat to the safety of local staff and residents. For this reason, AURA temporarily vacated the facility and ceased science activities at this location. The decision to vacate was based on the logistical challenges associated with protecting personnel at such a remote location, and the need for expeditious response to the potential threat. AURA determined that moving the small number of on-site staff and residents off the mountain was the most prudent and effective action to ensure their safety. In light of recent developments in the investigation, we have determined there is no risk to staff, and Sunspot Solar Observatory is transitioning back to regular operations as of September 17th.
The above official statement might be true, but it seems strange. One wonders what kind of criminal activity would force the evacuation of the whole facility, guards included. Maybe a further explanation will come out in the future.

A Mystery Man dies not too far away from the Solar Observatory, New Mexico

The Sunspot Solar Observatory in Mexico reopened on Monday, Sep 17, 2018 but people are dissatisfied with the official explanation as it offers a few new but vague details about the circumstances surrounding the evacuation.
Even the local Sheriff, who was kept in the dark about the investigation throughout, was skeptical. ”But for the FBI to get involved that quick and be so secretive about it, there was a lot of stuff going on up there,” Otero County Sheriff Benny House said, as quoted by Alamogordo News. “There was a Blackhawk helicopter, a bunch of people around antennas, and work crews on towers but nobody would tell us anything.”

Sheriff slams FBI’s handling of observatory closure at Sunspot, New Mexico
On September 6, a small solar observatory in Sunspot, New Mexico, essentially turned into the set of an X-Files episode after a horde of federal agents and a goddamn Blackhawk helicopter showed up to evacuate everyone and take over, without any explanation why. The conspiracy theories immediately started swirling (Aliens! Impending solar flares! More aliens!) but the FBI refused to give details to anybody—not even to the local sheriff, Benny House.
And House, like most local law enforcement in those X-Files episodes, is still suitably pissed about being kept in the dark. In a new interview with KVIA, the sheriff ripped into the FBI for continually refusing to tell him why it shut the place down:

How about this wild scenario. The government gets wind of a UFO fleet surrounding our Sun. They close a number of solar observatories in order to block any data from getting out. Of course this pisses off the observatory staffs and local law enforcement who are kept in the dark.

Unfortunately, a woman using a lens extender on her phone catches what seems to be an armada of ships circling the Sun and the photos get out. Oops!

Anyone have a better idea?

Well I found this about those other observatories, seems legit?...

We note that all these solar/space cams down at the same time:

Were Space and Solar Observatories Shut Down at the Same Time Around the World This Week?

I agree that the other observatories were not closed. But the official explanation is not plausible. Downloading kiddie porn is not violent in itself, so why would the facility have to be evacuated. They even shut down the post office.

In addition, the Feds wouldn't explain to local law enforcement what they were doing. Why not? What's so top secret about a pervert janitor?

Put the janitor looking at kiddie porn out of your mind. Concentrate on why the government would want to prevent scientists from looking at the Sun. There is your answer.

That makes no sense, sounds like they are really trying to hide something using this as an excuse...It is unprecedented to evacuate an entire facility (and possibly six others) because of a janitor allegedly downloading child porn...

...

Actually it does make sense and here's why....

Pedophile ring.

They work as a network for each other and are almost impossible to trace. If authorities do manage to catch one or more of these pigs, the rest immediately shut down and open office somewhere else.

The FBI are the official agency assigned to bringing these creatures to capture and of course would have to make it a sting operation so that it would be a complete surprise for the predator.

The fact that other observatories were shut down at the same time would suggest that the FBI found the nest. The complete evacuation of all facilities would be for two reasons. One being that they don't know how many are involved at each facility and the other reason being that they don't want to give anyone a chance to remove evidence.

Or....

It could be a fleet of aliens gathering around the sun.

Just my 2 cents. :)

I beg to differ. Ask any child or former child that has been prey to these monsters and they will tell you how violent it was. No, pushing a button to download is not violent but the content is and if there was no demand there would be no supply.

FBI agents in Blackhawk helicopters swoop on the Sunspot Solar Observatory in New Mexico and close the facility down for ten days. They claim this drastic action was taken because of an employee misusing the internet, but others suspect there is a more frightening reason for the mysterious lockdown, linked to the facilities' observations of our deadly neighbor: the Sun.
