I know several people who use Apple stuff. Some could afford it no matter how silly the prices got, and more power to them since they have all earned their fat bank accounts. Others can't afford it but buy it anyway because they are artists, and everyone knows artists can't use anything else. Yes, it's really weird.

At this point I believe Gene needs some kind of welfare call from the authorities and a psych evaluation. J. Randall Murphy or whatever his name is thinks he just needs some coaching on how to monetize his podcasts.

I'm lecturing in a class today at Cal Berkeley's campus so using that WIFI I can stalk the Paracast forums (this sounds a lot more sad now that I'm writing it out). Anyone I found someone is claiming Gene has Aspergers — I'm not sure what to think about it and I'm sure it will be deleted. It's on the Calvin Parker show thread from Sep. 2. I would say it is BS - there is too much to go into to explain in detail but Gene's behaviour is a lot more consistent with a personality disorder - particularly his disregard for morality. In this sense it would be in terms of sociopathic and narcissistic PD (which would now be called antisocial PD in some cases).

I also think a lot of people bandy around ASD as an excuse for personality issues - it seems to really be in vogue these days. I think it has something to do with the pop-culture view of Autism as being some kind of quirky but charming eccentricity combined with high intelligence (which is not actually correct). It is also a great "get out of jail free card" for bad behaviour which is more excusable in people's minds than simply being a jerk (which is what most personality disorders are).

I'm sure if Gene can make use of this idea and promote it to get sympathy he will. On the other hand it might also annoy him.

It doesn’t matter if Steinberg has some sort of condition or not. One thing is certain, he takes NO advice from anyone and always does things his own way. It does matter if 50 people tell him he is wrong. He won’t listen reason. He uses his standard phrase, “Let’s move on.” That is his way of saying that you are right and I am wrong but I will NEVER admit to it.

This is the problem. If there is a definite mental disorder it is not in the realm that would allow "help" to be forced upon him. It is personality (and as we have speculated) likely addiction based. As a result of that he has to consent to any help and he isn't interested - indeed he gets very angry at anyone even making such suggestions. He wants to live his life beyond his financial means supported by begging, he is not interested in alternatives.

waller is a batshit crazy 60 year's old that think its funny to harrass random menbers and troll paranormal forums.
despite his age, he has the brain of 7 year old and his acess to internet is a menace to human society as a whole

Even budget mics these days are pretty good for recording (especially if all you are doing is speech) - as long as he does it in the evening or at night it shouldn't be a problem. As for editing he probably farms that out. There are various inexpensive services based in developing countries that will do this kind of task for you - to be honest knowing Gene even if it was really expensive he woulds still get someone else to do it.
