since Chris left the begging has gone into overdrive.
I often wonder if Chris had a role in keeping his begging down.

It's possible he was afraid that if he took the begging too far Chris would leave and he wouldn't have a slave to do all the work for him. Once Chris left that went out the window and Gene struck it lucky with Randall who will just ignore whatever Gene does. He even knows about the whole scam with the BIL and still doesn't care.

More and more I think Chris O'Brien bailing did Gene in. It's just been a slow demise since then.

I am not blaming O'Brien. But, Gene's little racket required a co-host who people wanted to hear, who did all (most?) of the work. Without that, it's all winding down. I doubt there's a way to get the machine running again but, who knows. I'm surprised he has someone willing to co-host for him now.

I'm stuck in quicksand!
Hello,

In case you’re wondering, these money appeals usually bring in only a small amount of money — sometimes nothing at all.

That’s why I send them so often.

So today it’s the same situation. The motel management expects a payment by midday or out we go.

The storage facility called again the other day. They require payment or we are in danger of losing our stuff.

I’m back on the road today at the ride sharing gigs.

Here’s how you can help me today — and it is really urgent:

The best way to help is via PayPal. Please go to: Send Money, Pay Online or Set Up a Merchant Account - PayPal, login and use the Send to friends and family option. Enter my email address, gene@technightowl.com, and click or tap Next to continue the transaction.

If you want to send a payment via a different method, please write and I’ll work out the details with you.

If you’re not able to send a donation, feel free to forward this message to someone who might assist.

Another way to help is to become a subscriber to The Paracast+. Please visit Introducing The Paracast+ | The Paracast — The Gold Standard of Paranormal Radio for more details.

If you have any questions about my living situation, please let me know.

Peace,
Gene

If he actually was literally stuck in quicksand, would he just struggle to get to his phone and then send out emails begging for help? It seems like it. "If everyone could just drop what they're doing and come by the ol' quicksand patch and each pull me up an inch or so, I think I'll be able to survive...."

No resolution for the cliffhanger from yesterday's email. Naturally we're right back to the same place with Gene begging for money to pay the motel for another night.

I wonder how many more months this will go on. I don't think he'll get into an apartment anytime soon. Of course once he's there the begging will continue, it will just be for different things.

I also wonder if J. Randall Murphy is paying attention at all, if he'll ever figure out how abnormal this behavior is. Seemed like his mind was already made up, he'd dismissed any concerns and was just focusing on the greatness of finally seizing the chief stooge role at Steinberg ULC.

Randall seems to be just rolling along as if the grass is green and all is well there, you would think he would be able to see all of this, he's not an idiot unless Gene has him completely bamboozled...

It is strange to me.

With the paranormal nearly everything comes down to 'believe it or not' stories. Sure there may be a few instances out there with some kind of actual physical evidence and then a possibly-paranormal explanation attached to it. But for it to fall into this paranormal, supernatural area, there's not going to be any real proof.

Because of that, so much with the paranormal is going to hinge on personal credibility. A person tells a story. Do you believe the story? Do you believe that person? And then even if you believe them, what do you make of their interpretation of their experiences? And so on. (I personally believe that a lot of the field keeps running on the strength of "I Want To Believe"; something The X-Files got very right.)

Given all that you might imagine the Gene Steinbergs and Phil Imbrognos out there would value and guard their own credibility. Instead they appear to be a pair of fabulists who prize what, money? Acclaim? Not integrity, not that I see. And of course it turns out they can survive in "the paranormal field", if not exactly thrive.

Still, for someone like J. Randall Murphy to join forces with a guy who has major credibility issues (to say the least), I just don't get it. And given the spirit with which it started, it is truly sorry what the Paracast has come to.

I'm not too surprised at Randall's behavior. He never impressed me as being particularly sensible or even coherent a good part of the time. I had him on my ignore list when I was there just because of all the verbal diarrhea, as DB so colorfully describes such spew. Of course, he had plenty of company on that list. As an aside, I did not like the way the ignore list worked at that place. Not at all. There was no good indication when someone else had commented on a particular post, which led to a lot of confusing and confused exchanges. Something else I do not miss.

Based in his post while he was here I believe that Randall is a willing participant in the grift

I think many of you know him much better than I do. I got the impression he was downplaying Gene's e-begging and ignoring the dishonesty. It was just kind of like, well, Gene is maybe going about trying to monetize his podcasts the wrong way.... I'm sorry but yeah, lying constantly while expecting strangers to support your cycle of self destruction does seem like the wrong way to go about things. You aren't going to change him so why enable it?

He just came off as flippant about the whole thing to me. Gene has serious problems, and he has taken advantage of people, many of whom are now hurt and angry. It's a free world so J. Randall Murphy can do what he wants but I do not have a favorable view of him.

I think he made the conscious decision that he would ignore Gene's scamming in order to benefit himself. He is obviously not bright enough to understand that Gene's behaviour has killed the Paracast and any hopes for its success. He has sold his integrity for a worthless pile of dung that gets stinkier by the day. At some point the penny will drop and by then his own reputation will be so tarnished by association that he will never be able to clean it up. Nothing new in the paranormal though. Seems a lot of people push aside their ethics (and their brains) if they think they can get a bit of fame or make a bit of money.

I’ve often thought that some of the more seedier types love to congregate to the UFO field. No one needs credentials to speak of. If you create a website or write a cheesy book you automatically become an expert. Just look at Steinberg. He has zero interest in UFOs or the paranormal. His fantasies lie in watching “Supergirl” episodes.

Murphy is merely a “hangers on” type who gets his jollies from being a side kick. They both like to delete posts or correct “ill informed” members. If you look at the Paracast forums, that should tell you everything you need to know. The handful of posters essentially talk to themselves. It’s no wonder you see zero or one members present most days.

Steinberg and Murphy try to prop things up by creating false members and flooding the forums with their own posts. The thought of Steinberg adding a thousand members to the Paracast+ is ludicrous when you think about it. It’s basically the ravings of a madman.

Don't mistake lack of talent for genius
Still can't believe the sheer amount of balls it takes to send these emails 7 days a week. Each one of them paints the picture that "with a few more bucks - my woes will be over" when in reality it is "even if you each of you sent me $100 per day 7 days a week - it still wont be good enough. I will still have some other type of emergency going on." When meanwhile, it's all BS.

Balls or severe psychological issues. Or a little from column A, a little from column B? I don't know.
