We've had so much cold rain in the last 24 hours that it has melted 90 percent of the 14 inches of snow we've had on the ground for almost a week...

I'm in Northern New York and we've gotten just as rain/drizzle as snow and although grey & cloudy ( shocking!!! ) it's topped out in high 30s low 40s anywhere from 1-2 times a week. Very un Northern New York.

If I recall correctly it isn't unexpected in that we were to have an LaNina winter so if form holds my former stomping ground, LA, is going to get drenched in late Jan though March. We'll See.

High Priestess
My husband was held up in a conference so I went to his shift ringing bells for the salvation army. About 15 minutes into the shift Debbie showed up with some of her friends from the cheerleading squad. Followed by Kate and her friends. We formed a makeshift choir. Bob arrived with his new boss. He without hesitation both joined us. Two hours of singing carols
In the mall. we raised over $520. Bob's boss matched it.
Bob's boss insisted on a song from his home. From when he was young.
I present it for all to enjoy.

Blessed Be
Rikki

I'm down in SE New York and all I can say is that this weather sucks. Probably Cuomo's fault. We finally got out of the teens and it's slate grey out there and raining. ugh.

I've Done this several times, Have you considered buying out liquidated storage bins and selling the contents online?
It's easily enough done and you would be shocked that there is money in this. This is not so much a solution for paying bills. It's a positive income while looking for other options. It helps though. I've done that so many times, I can't even remember how many.

Hate to be a downer but in July 2017 a friend of mine that I worked with for over 30 years dropped dead in his service truck, during the day on the job. Now another friend and coworker of over 30 years dropped dead from a massive coronary. One was 56 the other 57. His eulogy was very emotionally moving but I wanted to just scream "lose the goddamned weight and stop smoking" to all those nearby who looked like they'll be following him into the hole.

Being 30-40lbs overweight, smoking and drinking heavily and being under stress all the time will kill you. Go figure, right? They were much too young. Sad to see people you've spent your life with take a dirt nap for no good reason.

It's sad no doubt, a good friend of 20 years smokes heavy, I've been trying to convince him to quit for years, if for no one else do it for his 8 year old son I tell him, a son who will need his father to be alive and healthy, not dead or in a hospital bed with lung cancer...

As it turns out I'll be working this coming weekend, both days, most of the day on xmas eve, and at least half the day xmas day...The work I need to do is staining and finishing soft maple for a job due to ship next Wednesday, I'm training someone to be able to accomplish this kind of work, as it stands now we have no one in the company who can do this properly except me...

About three years ago my wife wanted an HGTV bathroom. We went to a local building center who had a 'designer' and got hooked up with one of their 'expert' contractors. What a nightmare that turned out to be. Should have just done it myself - and will next time.

BUT - one major problem was the cabinetry. 'Mid-Atlantic' I think. Not exactly high end but good enough. They sent the cabinet boxes but took them about three months to produce the doors. Slab sided doors and they kept screwing up the finish and sending the crappy product along anyway. Had not one or two but three factory reps in my house harrrumphing over it - kept telling me how difficult it was to produce that design. Then why was it in the catalog and why do I only hear this after I bought them and have half of them installed already?

Eventually I got correctly finished parts and they sent a master cabinet maker out to fix up some details - and that guy was the real deal. Very cool and he managed to talk me down from the ledge in a way their amateur sales reps could not. I also have three medicine chests stored in the attic and had to use them all to get enough correct parts to make one. For a time I considered making a trebuchet out of the extra parts so I could take a road trip to their offices and launch my own feces at them from across the street. Very direct and apt user review.

In the end I was refunded every last cent for those cabinets and to be fair, they are very nice. But as the cabinet guy and I had a chuckle over, every time I walk past the bathroom my left eye twitches uncontrollably. More to that story than just the cabinets.

I have a very good friend who does exactly the same job as the one who died. Sits at a home office all day on the phone and PC. He weighs over four hundred pounds but says he's just "big" and that he's 6'4". Well, I'm 6'3" and only weigh about 210lbs so I'm not sure about that extra inch accounting for almost doubling my weight and somehow having that be OK. He has an endless list of aches and pains and reasons why he can't lose weight, or doesn't need to etc. and goes on about them endlessly. Like he's a victim somehow and years of all you can eat Pizza Hut has nothing to do with it. He's been told directly by his doctors to "lose a hundred pounds or you'll die."

When our buddy died his initial reaction was "see - even skinny people die." Well, that's certainly true - being thin isn't necessarily the ticket to good health and being obese doesn't immediately mean you're desperately unhealthy. BTW - only a morbidly obese person would have ever looked at our mutual friend and used the word 'skinny' in a sentence.

Being morbidly obese, sedentary and quick to rationalize but never act doesn't mean anything good. I fear for him and it sucks when you get to the point where your friends start to drop dead.

The sad part is my rationalizing buddy's son weighs over five hundred pounds and posts pictures of himself and tremendous quantities of food. Not even 30 years old yet and may not see 40 from the looks of it.

And that's OK because it's more important that 'people accept him as he is.'
