I've seen it stated and implied that Steinberg is under investigation by law enforcement. If anyone has direct knowledge of this and wishes to discuss it, please contact me directly (Get my email address by clicking on my profile located in the sidebar, then hover over "email," or contact me on Twitter). The more supporting documentation, the better.

Probably not proper thoughts for a holiday but I hope there is something to it. If he would changes his ways it would be another matter but, he's not going to change his ways. He was begging yesterday for heaven's sake, trying to make people feel bad he was having "another lonely holiday" (I guess living in the same room as his wife and dog isn't saving him from loneliness?). As we know, he doesn't need to beg. But others who may not know it will get those emails, and he hopes to scam them out of their hard-earned dollars. No sympathy for him here.

It's a fine thought if you consider that his victims like Torsen may be having a very terrible Christmas as a result of his scamming. People need to be protected. I have no sympathy for Crimeberg.

Got to be the laziest one ever:

Holiday Emergency
Hello,

With subscriptions, Uber income and a donation or two, I made it through the Christmas holiday weekend. But as usual for me, cash flow will be low through New Year’s Day. I’ll continue to put in hours on the road, but I still have to cover the motel and other bills.

If you can help me at all covering some my expenses, please follow the usual method to send via PayPal.

Login to: https://www.paypal.com/Send-Money, login and use the Send to friends and family option. Enter my email address, gene@technightowl.com, and click or tap Next to continue the transaction.

Thank you for reading.

Peace,
Gene

He might get one depending on what the Maricopa and Pinal County Attorneys do with the draft complaint I sent them referencing Scheme's fraudulent fake e-begging..

AND we are suppossed to be dumb enough to believe he's been living this way for almost FIVE MONTHS NOW?!?! I've had enough. I'll be speaking with the Maricopa Co Atty to see if this fits the aptly named "Schemes and Artifices" Arizona Revised Statute. I'm thinking it does.

I am doubtful. I submitted a comment to the UFO Trail along these lines, with the cautionary note that I was never in the prosecution business and never practiced in Arizona.

To me the Beizer solicitions, culminating in the Torson loans was where Gene was most liable. (A.R.S. 13-2310.). The statue of limitations for the last of the Torson money expires in a couple of weeks.

Any misdemeanors (amounts less than $1000) must be prosecuted within a year.

Without further evidence, I don't see Gene's recent email begging rising to the level of 13-2310. He might be annoying; he might be trying to live off of people's misplaced sympathy; he might be doing a lot of things that cross moral boundaries, but the general nature of his begging probably serves him well.

If a victim came forward perhaps a case could be made if Gene made specific false representations. I would be surprised to see any criminal prosecution without more than we have seen here.

That's kind of what I presumed - through sheer luck he got away with his involvement with the BIL's schemes and then he was lucky again in getting away with defrauding Torsen.

Aside from that Gene is too low level a fraudster to be on any law enforcement radar.

What he does is disgusting but on the whole he spreads it out amongst lots of people. It's disgusting but I fear he will not be stopped by the law. That's why it is important to get the word out about his behaviour - let everyone know, most importantly anyone that appears on his show just exactly what he is doing and what they are supporting.

He is completely bereft of conscience (like a true sociopath) and completely unaware of what constitutes immoral behaviour so there is no chance of him stopping of his own accord.

He will never change his ways unless he is forced and the only thing I can see doing that is for his scamming money to completely dry up due to everyone in the paranormal community becoming aware of his actions. I don't doubt that he will keep on trying even then, but as long as nobody is duped again it doesn't matter.

the simple joy of having his grandchildren rush into his arms. Barb lovingly handing out toys. Spending the day after Christmas with them baking cookies and pies. all denied him because he ran his family off. To see Rikki's folks so blessed and know by his actions he will never have family saddens me. but then my wife is right. he reaped what he sowed.

I think you're making the mistake of thinking of Gene like a normal person who values those things.

He absolutely does not.

You can see the evidence in how he talks (or more doesn't talk) about his wife or Teddy Bear and of course we know how he treated his own son (the whole apartment thing).

He cares about two things, money and stroking his own ego. Family, friends etc are nothing to him beyond being a tool for grifting.

Grandchildren would only matter to him once they became old enough to have money, before then they would be irrelevant.

I lack legal knowledge and expertise, so my opinions are not informed.

I have thought a few things related to the idea of Gene actually getting into additional legal trouble.

First, there could be other large donations in his past, even his recent past. I doubt he landed a second Torson but I can imagine he may have gotten $1,000+ out of one or more other people. For what it's worth I recall someone claiming they gave him $10K and, saying that he then tried to talk them into buying him a house. Possibly bullshit but, I don't know.

Next there is the tax evasion question - I doubt very much he has any idea how much he nets from donors in a year (short of PayPal reports but, he doesn't always get his appeals money via PayPal apparently), and I further am skeptical he would ever declare his begging income on his taxes. But that said, I doubt the IRS is going to bother with small fish Gene Steinberg when there are cases to pursue that could bring in some actual dollars. Pretty clearly Gene is not going to be worth the time or trouble to investigate let alone prosecute.

Then finally, and going by your post, it seems he'd have to be caught out on some very specific false pretense used to raise money - for example if he didn't have the storage bill any longer yet still claimed to need money for it, or was not in a motel any longer but asking for money for that. But again these seem like such trivial things in the grand scheme - yes he's a nuisance, yes he has harmed people, even those who donated relatively small amounts. But I don't see the legal system taking the time to bother with him.

I feel like Gene's begging is in the nature of the person standing by the busy road, holding up the cardboard where they've written "homeless will work for food", who wants donations. Are they homeless? Will they use the money for food? There are laws in many places against panhandling but even where that is true, how often are those individuals investigated and prosecuted?

All that said I think Gene is very much crooked, does not care who he hurts, and we only know some of what he has been involved in. If the law does catch up with him with a result other than another garnishment he won't pay, good.

Really I think we're stuck with Gene's behavior so long as he has the ability to send emails. Returns will, I hope, continue to diminish for him. If another landlord takes a chance on him, I imagine they'll regret it.

Eh, thanks for reading. Like I say, uninformed speculation.

sadly your right.. Barb and teddy bear are only mentioned to gain support
and money.
Rikki means everything to me. Barb is just a player in his game. who knows.. maybe Barb is living with the SIL.
Or abandoned altogether..
A sad fate I have no care for Gene. He can rot. Barb I would like to see cared for. After all she is his victim

Looks like he is back to daily installments of BS again:

This may not end well!

Hello,

As I write this, I am down to $2.88 in my PayPal account.

I am struggling to pay for the motel by 11 AM each day.

I am late with payments for the cell phone, auto insurance, car maintenance (an expensive scheduled maintenance is due), and other expenses.

There is progress. As I said, the new Paracast site should be done by the first of the year. I also landed a small ad deal from a national advertiser, and will try to expand that through 2019.

I’m really trying to keep up, but I need some help.

Here’s how to send a donation:

For PayPal, please go to: Send Money, Pay Online or Set Up a Merchant Account - PayPal, login and use the Send to friends and family option. Enter my email address, gene@technightowl.com, and click or tap Next to continue the transaction.

If you’re not able to send a donation, feel free to forward this message to someone who might assist.

If you have any questions about my living situation, please let me know.

And thanks for all the good wishes and support. I hope you have a great holiday.

Happy New Year,
Gene

Looks like he is back to daily installments of BS again:

Thanks! Wow OK, I think I have a new favorite Scheme Gene subject line. It's almost like he has a sense of humor about this?

Really though, for those of us reading the emails I think it's not "this may not end well" it's, "will this ever end"? The answer of course is no, not so long as Gene draws breath and has access to email, anyway.

No mention of the storage bill. I will guess if we hear about it again it will mean that he or "a generous friend" paid for it. Well. Maybe.

He's really trying to keep up. Well that is good Gene. Keep trying! I myself don't really think a new Paracast site will count for much so I suggest you work on a plan B that isn't, "And then someone gives me $300,000."

So at this point, there are probably more than a thousand comments on blog posts about Gene at the UFO Trail blog. Very very few of those are favorable toward Gene. Almost none. There are hundreds of pages of posts here. Nothing here is really a defense of Gene and his behavior, that I recall. There are loads of tweets going back now at least a year @SchemeGeneRC, and once more, nothing there is arguing that Gene is an honest man just struggling to get past some unforeseen and unfortunate obstacles. There are other discussion threads online as well here and there, some other blog posts, comments, the occasional reddit thread. I have yet to really see anyone but Gene and possibly J. Randall Murphy claim that Gene is justified in all his behavior.

Gene, we know you read this. At what point will you start to consider maybe you're the one who's wrong? And even if you're right, your plan doesn't exactly have a lot to show for it, given your claimed circumstances. And I don't think a recession will improve your donations any, but at least it will give you a new excuse for your bullshit ways, I guess.
