I think the motels will raise rates around Spring Training. So I sometimes wonder what is keeping Gene in Mesa or Phoenix for further lonely holidays. It probably is not the friends he has made while eating at the Senior Center.

New Year's Day Emergency!

Hello,

I’ll be brief.

It’s New Year’s Day and it's a barrel of hurt.

The mobile phone service is turned off for non-payment.

That means I cannot drive for Lyft or Uber until I have a working smartphone for navigation.

I have to pay the motel today by 11 AM (Arizona/Mountain time) to stay here.

Can you provide some help today?

f you can please follow the usual process:

Translation - I'll be lazy.

It’s New Year’s Day and it's a barrel of hurt.
Translation - I need to get to the sales and I need more money to buy crap I don't need.

The mobile phone service is turned off for non-payment.
Translation - The mobile service is not "turned off" they would just cut you off for repeated non-payment but I need to fake an emergency. Doesn't matter that mobile phone carriers don't work this way because I think you people are too stupid to realise that.

That means I cannot drive for Lyft or Uber until I have a working smartphone for navigation.
Translation - You all know I don't drive for Uber or Lyft but I need to keep the charade going in case some really gullible people are listening. Also the whole fake phone being "turned off" thing gives me an extra excuse for why I'm not driving.

Can you provide some help today?
Translation - Will you pay for my splurge on the New Year sales?

f you can please follow the usual process:
Freudian typo slip. He's giving us a "f*** you".

I think it's likely that Gene is in a motel. We know the evictions were real. There were reports by people who said they were in the same motel. But more importantly, how many landlords would rent to him even if he had the money?

It's hard to believe his sister in law would come through. The Beizers were hardly a model of family support, honesty, and or compassion.

Whether the cell phone is turned off or cut off, I am not surprised if it is shut down.

I see no reason to think that Gene wouldn't have been doing some driving. His facebook posts inquiring about other types of driving seemed genuine - but assuming that Gene could not drive at night or for long periods at a time, it is hardly a solution in any event.

$1700+ in social security will not go far in a motel, particularly in the area he appears to be living. It is hard to think that the Paracast/Night Owl would still be bringing in a thousand a month - even if it includes ads, memberships, and donations.

Still, I have to wonder what Gene is doing? I know someone who had not realized that their Plus subscription went into automatic renewal, but cancelled the automatic payment last year. This year it expired without even a reminder or request for renewal.

Assuming that Gene is driving then protecting a phone with a prepaid card from a cheaper plan would seemingly have been a priority.

If Gene is stuck in a motel, then seeking housing assistance and applying for low income housing would have been the obvious priority, but it does not appear that Gene would even eat a meal at the senior center (otherwise he would have used it as part of his tale of woe).

I think it's likely that Gene clung to the illusion that the Paracast would somehow come through. That he clung to his begging even while getting deeper and deeper into trouble, expanding it rather than rethinking his life.

But at this point, with Gene's credibility in shatters and his proven lies and misrepresentations, its hard to know . . .

All that I know is that further donations in relation to his begging will not help. I read an article about Phoenix groups urging people to give responsibly rather than offer handouts. It rang true with Gene as well.

Gene, take positive steps and then we'll talk.

I would still drive if I didn't have my cell phone, surely he knows his way around the town he lives in enough but one never knows, he could really suck at directions and street names...Either way he is just a pathetic fool...

I think the bigger problem would be that you need the Uber or Lyft app to accept fares - and you can't do that without a phone.

If "tech expert" Crimeberg were really driving he would understand but this is just more concrete proof he doesn't do any ride sharing - and that he has absolutely no knowledge of modern technology.

There is absolutely no way he could be ignorant of that if the ride sharing were true.

Now that I've pointed that out, it likely won't be long until he reads this and then pretends that he meant he couldn't use the ride sharing apps rather than navigation.

It will make no sense but he will try to push the lie anyway - credibility, logic etc mean nothing to the Schemey one.

I doubt Gene is smart enough to take advantage of two factor authentication. (you know...so you don't get your accounts hacked). But if he did and really had his cell cut off, it could really cause access problems since they usually text you a code to access anything.

He did write: "That means I cannot drive for Lyft or Uber until I have a working smartphone for navigation."

It might have been more accurate if the "for navigation" was either left out or expanded. When we are out of cell range, navigating with free offline routing apps work just fine but his essential point that he cannot drive for Uber or Lyft without a working cell phone is true.

But to me it's a wash. I think he couid have written this without it meaning that he is doing no driving for Uber or Lyft. How many times have I written something that I think needs to be clarified upon further thought.

If I were him I would have been driving just so that I would not have to listen to Fox News or whatever else that Barbara watches.

You miss the point. You can't use Uber/Lyft without a cellphone but the reason is not navigation it is the fact that you can't use the app, so you can't accept customers or payment. It is beyond belief that someone who actually drives for Uber/Lyft would make such a mistake. It is not a typo or using incorrect terminology, it is a fundamental misunderstanding of how Uber/Lyft work which is impossible if you have used them even once. I understand you are trying to be fair and non judgmental but the fact is there is no way around that.

No the apps require you to be online during the journey. Obviously if you have brief cuts in connectivity it doesn't matter but the way the apps work is that you need to be connected to their servers. It's how they provide up to date info to the customer about arrival, journey length and that the journey has been completed and paid for. Couldn't work with wifi.

Ah yeah that makes sense, I didn't think about having to use it whilst he drove..I wonder how that works for other states that do not allow cell phone use while driving, like New York for instance...I drove around Buffalo N.Y. for almost a month using my cell phone while driving, talking and using Google maps only to find out I was lucky I didn't get pulled over lol...I stopped at a Starbucks one day near downtown Buffalo and when I got out of my car someone came over to me and warned me about having my cell phone out talking while I was driving...I bought him a drink for letting me know lol...

So just having it out even if you don't use it could get you in trouble? Also how does that work for hands free in the car? I think a lot of these laws are not keeping up with the tech.

The guy told me as long as the cell phone wasn't in my hands while I drove I was fine, I could not hold it to use maps or anything, I had to be hands free to use my phone in N.Y. state he said..I was in Buffalo on business back then a few years ago and was calling and everything whilst driving until that kind fellow informed me, better him then a policeman, cheaper too lol...
