To quote Gene - from his response to an email I sent him last year:

As to my alleged luxury apartment, the cheapest complexes in AZ often have gates, pools, barbecue pits and such to attract tenants. They commonly refer to themselves as “luxury,”

And why do you care about any of this anyway anymore?

To quote Gene - from his response to an email I sent him last year:

I think this just shows how out of touch with reality the guy is. He spends the best part of a decade unrelentlessly begging from us yet when it comes to him buying new cars and living in luxury accomodation he is puzzled as to why we care.

If you think about it logically, everything that Steinberg says is pure bullshit. He and his wife pull in more than enough money to pay the $1100 rent at one of these apartments shown. He never, ever says where the Social Security money goes. You would think a roof over your head would be priority no. 1.

A free meal normally comes with the rental fee. He shouldn’t be starving. He obviously isn’t driving much. He could easily get a lower costing vehicle, but he won’t. He won’t do a lot of things because he has it in his mind that he deserves a better life than he has. What never is said is that he hasn’t worked any job in his adult life where he could save up money for later retirement.

It’s much easier than to think that someone will support you from begging money constantly. The spigot has gone dry these days and the constant emails aren’t working. Any reasonable advice has been ignored by Steinberg. I don’t feel sad in the least for him. He hasn’t done anything to allow him to retire or live a decent life at his present age.

Agreed and agreed, and I will say to me it appears he has had opportunities even in recent years that he has blown. The apartment rented in his son's name? Seems to me a perfect opportunity to get his act together and stay within a budget and make responsible choices. He was evicted, and has been evicted from at least one more apartment since then.

Can he help himself "get off this train"? I don't know. Others cannot do it for him. He has to truly want to do it. And too he is not necessarily alone in this; I've no idea how Barbara Steinberg may contribute to the problems, or if she's really more just along for the ride. Just no clue.

(And once again how weird to even be having this conversation about someone I do not know and have never met. But, he's made it an object of interest with his emails and public defense of his behavior and attacks on anyone who questions him.)

You could say it becomes your business when Steinberg sends out emails begging for money. I might add, this money is coming from perfect strangers that he doesn’t know. I have always felt that if Steinberg wants money, he needs to sign an agreement. This is a loan, not money that will never be paid back. That means getting off your dead ass and going to work. Get as many jobs as it takes to stay afloat. Your age means nothing to me and others. Much of the populace has to work past the age of 65. What makes you so special?

You could also say that by claiming to be the gold standard podcast which takes conmen and bullshit merchants to task Gene has put himself in a position where his own integrity and behaviour will be scrutinised. It is ironic that he is more disgusting than most of the people he has ridiculed in the UFO community.

Calling your podcast “the Gold Standard of UFOlogy” is laughable at best. Steinberg has zero integrity these days in the UFO community. Having Steinberg and Murphy commenting on the evils of the UFO field is a bit like the pot calling the kettle black, don’t you think?

A slight derail but i have to admit that im kind of curious as to how exactly Gene would hit up guests for money. Did he ask for money outright during breaks or would he tell his tale of woe hinting that he needed money ?

I get a few emails per week asking for money. (I ignore them.) He's also talking on the podcast about an upgraded website, which I don't understand since it's a ghost town there now, and says he hopes to add new payment options for the Paracast Plus, including direct deposit from your bank account. Would anybody trust that?

The $2800 in bankruptcy, as I recall, included some income that was either dubious at the time or has since been attenuated to damn near zilch--the Paracast, Tech Nite Owl and see forth. The recent figure is $1700 of SSI. That fits with just barely scraping by in fleabag motels and the pattern of what one might think looks like neurotic, senile begging patterns. I would guess there is still a rusty trickle coming out of the ol' grift pipe, and a ha' penny from ad revenue.

Basically, he's just riding' it on down; at least that's my guess. He could make another plan; he lives in AZ where there are thousands of retirees living--not well off--decent, dignified lives on that kind of dough ($1700/mo). But he doesn't want that for whatever reason. So, a slow moving train wreck; could it be he relishes our watching?

I tend to believe the Social Security money gets blown almost immediately. How can Steinberg come out the day he gets his SS money and say he needs a handout to stay at the motel another day? It’s all nonsense coming from his mouth. I am betting there is still money coming in from gullible people. He has never once been transparent about money coming in or going out. This has been going on for close to 15 years now. He has to do a lot better than to say we should take his word for matters.

He could live on his social security if he reined in his spending. Spending $700 per month on a car is complete insanity when you are homeless. Goodness only knows how much he spends on food given that he has admitted himself that both he and Barbara only eat out in restaurants for all their meals.

When times are difficult for most people they start cutting back on things.

Gene does the exact opposite - as someone else said he actually took out a lease on a new car during a previous period he was complaining about imminent eviction and desperately begging everyone - whenever this is pointed out to him he tends to become very hostile and give his usual retort of it being nobody else's business.

It's also strange how he was unable to pay rent on an apartment and got evicted yet can pay more (on what he claims is a daily basis) to live in a motel. He has been saying he can't afford it on almost a daily basis for nearly a year and then somehow, magically, he manages to pay it every time. As someone has said before he seems to be able to win heads on a coin toss hundreds of times in a row.

It seems he wants to overspend and doesn't like anyone ever questioning it. This would also explain why he refuses to take any government or state assistance. They would definitely ask to look at his finances and maybe even take money directly out of his social security thus preventing him from doing silly things like buying new cars and iphones and the like.

None of it really adds up unless we presume that Gene likes the current situation he is in. He doesn't seem to consider being in a motel to be homeless but he knows other people would not like it so he uses it as a means of begging.

I get the feeling that even even if Gene received $10k a month he would be struggling. Doesn't matter how much money you get if you can't budget and spend within your means you will end up in trouble. Think of all those people who make fortunes and then lose it all because they can't control their spending. If the $44K he swindled from Torsen changed nothing I doubt any amount will.

Personally I think the only thing that might make him change is if he does end up on the street. That might give him the kick up the backside he needs although it is also possible that he will be trying to run the Paracast and beg out of a cardboard box. His mind seems to be that warped.

For now as long as he can stay holed up in the motel, watching Netflix and presiding over his forum like a king he will keep begging and avoiding real work. He chooses this situation and I think he must enjoy or derive at least some level of satisfaction from it.

I feel sorry for the dog because it must be a miserable existence for him.

As one person on the UFO Trail blog has mentioned, Steinberg has never, ever asked for a job or a lead for employment in all these years. He just wants money handed to him free and clear so he can do whatever he wants. That seems to sum things up very simply. He becomes belligerently angry when some challenges him about how he lives.

When someone captures Steinberg on camera living out of his car, then I MIGHT possibly believe something he has to say.
