I found it odd too, or striking at least, but I have since learned there are constables in my area (U.S. midwest) as well. When I first saw Gene using the term I had thought maybe it was an Arizona thing. The title sounded sort of old-fashioned to me.
Where I live, "the constable acts as the bailiff of the township small claims court, serves court documents and uses police powers to make arrests, keep the peace and carry out orders of the court." So here, too, they may carry out evictions; not sure. Thankfully I have never had any experience with that.
I have a couple friends who own rental properties in this state. I asked one if he's ever had to evict anyone. He told me that he has, but has never had to get the courts involved to get a non-paying tenant out. Apparently in his case telling them to go has worked so far. Gene of course forces his landlords into court. Just another great thing about him.
