Gene Steinberg's Financial Shenanigans @ Paracast forums

You are probably right David. Steinberg is about the only human I know of who can never admit he is wrong (about anything). It seems like some sort of mental problem, to be sure.

As he famously says, “Let’s move on!”

Just imagine something like the Pixar film Inside Out, but featuring the nastiness and dysfunction that reigns inside of GS's head.

His arrogance, his greed, his dishonesty, his sense of entitlement....

Come to think of it, and fitting for him, it would make for a cast of characters more akin to the Legion of Doom from the old Superfriends cartoon than the colorful personified emotions from Inside Out.

Steinberg has no friends, no family that actually cares about him, has little to nothing to show for his life, anything good in his reality has likely been because of someone else's efforts. He is obviously deeply envious of pretty much everything about his brother's life, but Steinberg is the diametric opposite of that brother, he has contributed little or nothing to humanity, when he's dead and gone, no one will speak kindly of him, there will be no tributes to his work, no NYT obits, nothing, nada. His entire life, he's been little more than a marginal character, a fringe fart in the wind, no notoriety outside of this sad little paranormal sandbox, in the tech world he's a total nobody, a wannabe loser who never really came up with anything original or inspiring.

One could easily make the case that he is - and has always been - little more than a parasite, and he's married to a woman who is even less than he is, she has hitched her pathetic wagon to him, can you imagine how worthless her life is that she chose HIM? No professional career, no work ethic, no life outside of FOX news, obsessively posting rescue animal notices on Facebook (which is kind of a positive attribute of hers, but that's it, folks), she literally cannot boil water for coffee. She is the very definition of useless molecules taking up space.

If it's any consolation, Gene won't need a Hell in the afterlife, he's already living it our right here, right now: a liberal confined to a single room with a delusional Republican who likely constantly complains about her lot in life and is not willing to lift a bony finger to change anything about it, a son who ran as far from them as he could, a former audience who openly mocks and savages him, I'd say feel sorry for him, but I know better, he's earned ALL of it. He can burn, for all I care.

He's not stupid, but make no mistake, he's mentally ill.

I disagree.

He is not mentally ill (at least not in the conventional sense) - there is no psychosis or affective disorder here. Instead he is what in the past would be called "morally ill" - he is a textbook sociopath. Extreme narcissism often goes hand in hand with that - and it is the thing which refuses to allow him to acknowledge any fault in his behaviour, this is distinct from being delusional.

That is why he can never accept he is wrong and that is also why he thinks it is perfectly fine to swindle others to help himself.

Also your family don't cut you off if you are mentally ill but they may be forced to cut you off if you are a sociopath for reasons of pure self preservation.

Calling it a mental illness minimises the nature of what he has done (and will continue to do) by suggesting he has no choice in it. He can and does choose to harm others for his own benefit and he literally does not care.

He also knows it is wrong because he bans any discussion of it on his own forums.

Hmmm. I am no clinician, but things like obsessive compulsive disorder and narcissistic personality disorder - allowing that perhaps GS meets the criteria for one, both, or something similar (we know he's said he has "an anxiety disorder", but who doesn't) - would mean he meets the definition for a mental illness in the U.S.

Let's just say I have some expertise in this area but I will give the caveat that it is difficult to remotely diagnose anything so all we can do is speculate.

From what I have seen there is no overt evidence of OCD beyond repetitive behaviour. Even if there was it does not explain immoral behaviour and it cannot be used as a defence of it.

Personality disorders are listed in DSM/ICD but they are not classified as treatable mental illnesses and again cannot be used as a defence for bad behaviour.

For example sociopathy would come under antisocial behaviour disorder under the more modern classification. It is highly controversial that personality disorders are even in mental health classifications most clinicians do not consider them to be illnesses since they are lifelong and enduring traits.

This all goes back to the over medicalisation of any behaviour which is not considered to fit the baseline/normal - whatever that means.

I suppose it is a matter of semantics but when you say someone is "mentally ill" it normally suggests something which is severe and out of their control, it also suggests something that hasn't always been there and can be treated - like a psychotic disorder or a mood disorder. It is something which is out of the ordinary for the individual and with proper treatment (even if such treatment doesn't yet exist) one could presumably return the person to how they were before.

Bad behaviour is different and unfortunately the conflation of the two does a disservice to people who suffer from issues like schizophrenia or bipolar where they may well lack insight and not even realise the harm they are doing.

There is no before for Gene. He has always been like this and he likely always will.

I'm still plowing through the early years of the Paracast and I can sense the slow and steady progression of David growing tired of Gene. It was really buddy, buddy at first, then came the audible sighs and occasional comments like, "No more stupid DC Comics references" and, a stern, "No, you're not going to a break until I finish this thought!" an so on. Curious to see how this progresses. I don't really know what led to the fallout, but I can sense it coming.

I've also learned that David likes chocolate.

Drop everything! There are "Major Updates!" - For a microsecond I thought that maybe Schemey would just be sending us an update without begging. Then I remembered who it was:

Major Updates!
Hello,

My right eye has mostly recovered from that infection. The cause was a bit bizarre. When my vision failed to improve, my primary care doctor referred me to an eye doctor to find out what was going on.

The eye doctor had to look closely to find the cause: A contact lens slid off-center and hung out on the side of my eye. At the time this happened, I thought I had lost the lens. But it was easily removed without causing any damage beyond some irritation.

So I’m busy trying to make up for lost time.

In the meantime, the marketing person is ramping up his efforts to boost the business, with the major emphasis on The Paracast. A new Paracast Store (www.theparacast.store) is now online.

The paracast.com site redesign is back on track, with an emphasis on making it look great on mobile gear. Signups for The Paracast+ (www.theparacast.com/plus/) will be made easier.

The Tech Night Owl Store is offline for now. It’s being redone with a more exclusive class of merchandise.

While waiting for all this, I could sure use some help to cover the motel, furniture storage and other expenses.

And, yes, I’m still trying to find an affordable apartment.

I think translates to something like, "While I continue to slowly execute increasingly pointless schemes, if any of you chumps and chumpettes are left out there to underwrite all my basic living expenses, well, I won't say no to your charity. In fact I'll be back to ask for more of it, oh, let's just say... forever."

I hope the "still trying to find... an apartment" bit is true and he hasn't found a new victim yet.

number 38.. so he failed to notice the lens hanging out of his eye? um..ok..

Right and this is the guy who claims to drive other people around for Uber and Lyft. I really hope it is all just a fantasy because there is no way he should be behind the wheel of a vehicle himself, let alone driving other people around.

Well he said he stopped driving whilst he was having the problem, but my concern is if he can't see a scrunched up contact lens in his eye then what good can his eyesight be?

Even if it was off in the corner somewhere and he magically didn't see it how insensitive do you have to be to not notice an irritating foreign body there? I have come across people in this situation but it is usually when they have some kind of other issue e.g. they are alcoholics or drug users who have accidentally anaesthetised themselves and wouldn't know if someone cut their hand off.
