Agreed, as long as we don't get Poldark with tripods ..

At risk of hijacking my own thread, the BBC certainly have the budget. Like every household in the UK with a TV, I must pay a license fee of about $200.00 a year (they send detector vans round to check).
With commercial sales, that's about $7.5 billion a year.
It is an outdated funding model, also there is a woeful program balance (technology and SF, around 20% of other networks output, is minimal).
The BBC also changed when Thatcher took a hard look and decided that given the size of organisation, a proper management structure was needed.
Unfortunately the unforeseen long term downside was a huge decrease in creative risk taking.
