Yeah, McPherson struts were still a bit in the future for this car. Big heavy steel upper & lower control arms, rubber bushings, coil springs, traditional gas shocks, ball joints, tie rods, pitman arm, idler arm, relay rod etc. Just rebuilt it all. Damned near broke my left thumb in the process. It's only now becoming useful weeks later.
There are all sorts of after market composite leaf springs, coil over conversions, rack & pinion conversions, tubular A and trailing arms. For my daydreaming time wasting project I would like to get hold of a later c3 '79-'82 and put a modern suspension under it. Restomod. A nice off the shelf drop in small block performance engine like a 383 stroker, somewhat aggressive but still drivable roller cam, and probably fuel injected. Surprisingly you can still contact Chevrolet and whistle up about any damned motor you want, they still make them. Not in Flint, Michigan anymore of course.....
I just rattled off like $20K+ easily for all that so it's in no danger of happening any time soon.
Yeah - pretty easy to mix and match Chevy parts in that time frame.
