I try to live life to the full because I don’t believe in any form of afterlife.
The key question here is "who are you?" We tend to think of ourselves as the localized collection of memories and thoughts in our brains, but the ancient mystics disputed this interpretation, for example, Buddha said "all is Bodhimind," and other mystics have made similar statements. They seem to regard our idea of "self" as a delusion, and instead define the "self" as the underlying and immutable field of consciousness that pervades the universe.
So from that point of view, the "self" existed before your body was born and will continue long after your body dies. But our memories are part of our brains, so I see no chance of those surviving bodily death.
What's interesting to me is that all of the mystical traditions dating back thousands of years point to a direct personal experience when the individual suddenly realizes that their consciousness is their true identity, and that transcends our personal memories (i.e., the
content of our consciousness).
So it may be a matter of definitions. If you think that "you" are your memories, then yeah none of that will survive death. But if you think that "you" are the underlying awareness that observes your memories, then that appears to be essentially eternal and immutable, if the ancient mystical texts are correct.
It's probably a good idea to actually experience the direct knowledge of your true self that underlies your memories and thoughts, so you don't have to cross your fingers hoping that the mystics were right as you draw your last breath.
A nice family asked me to have an Dalmatian puppy and a horse. It requered too much so I said no. very kind of them. Those dogs are nice 
so i would not worry about that at all
