and if people listen to the warning then there shouldn't be a problem

You could listen, I could listen - And the leader of North Korea, he too is listening - And I would bet you he has
his group working on it - But we know where he will go with it - And if he loses and the machines eat him and the rest of the world what does he care? If you gamble all on some mad desire to rule the world and lose
- so what?

But I digress - AI is none political - But politicians will go all out to manipulate it to their advantage
- And its probably a lot more dangerous than anything else in technology that they had before.

Still they have had nuclear weapons for well over 50 years and haven't blown the world up 'yet'
- So I suppose there is hope!

Humanity will survive in machines... nope...
machines will take over... nope...
Machines will destroy humanity... nope...
Humans go extinct from over consuming Earths resources.... likely mostly extinct... but the ones that survive will be different.

Would robots exist if humans are completely wiped out? Yes, for a while. But at some point logic would dictate that there is no reason for AI to continue, since it's continued existance would only be self serving. It would simply shut down for lack of purpose.

Possibly true - Unless they developed their own sense of purpose - maybe even mimicking Man's sense of purpose - And then again what is Man's purpose?

Their are many different people with many different senses of purpose - Many cultures with different reasons
they give themselves to exist.

If you take exploring space to be an important purpose - The robot AI mind may continues - and it might be
better adapted to space travel and exploration than biological Humans - Aren't we already sending AI out
into space? - If the Human race was to destroy itself while it had robot AI travelers in deep space, they might
continue, land on another planet some day in the future and re-produce AI robots as a new life form.

There is a difference between feelings and emotions, I think a machine could develop feelings built from experiences but a machine cannot gain emotions, they could never contain a soul...

Too late for humans on the Earth. Natural resources, like the oceans, turning to acid killing nearly everything.. and air becoming unbreathable without special filters.. robots may help us survive that... some of us... but nothing can stop the cycle and the earth!s fever will kill mostly everything.

Many will agree with that - I'm not so sure.

It's like this debate that has been going on for years in philosophy on whether computers could be conscious
- Many say never - And I always ask - What law says that consciousness belongs only to biological entities?

There is no such law - And if there is no law stopping computer consciousness, then what prevents computers
from one day in the distant future from having emotion.

Of course some might say that emotions are not logical and therefor most if no all AI programs could not
entertain emotions. Maybe, but like consciousness which really doesn't have an absolute and universal definition - Emotions too may have some unknown dimension of meaning - And then some future AIs might
understand and have them???

Love the dorky walking style of Atlas, though Asimo walks like a baboon balancing on a tightrope..

I would rather know a robot when I see one, then to have to make a guess...

Robots are robots, and can do so many thinkgs humans cannot do, but they will never be human.

I was speaking about emotions and feelings, not consciousness, a machine or any biological creature can have consciousness without emotions but a machine will never have emotions, they will only be able to mimic them...

New robot at Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas offers directions and can hum a little

650x366

"
Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas guests may find themselves greeted by the hotel’s newest staff member: a robot named Pepper.

“She” arrived at the hotel’s 23rd floor Sky Lobby earlier this month with the title of technical ambassador. Pepper can answer questions about the hotel and give directions, as well as entertain visitors by dancing or telling a story.

The 4-foot-tall robot with oversize eyes is near the concierge desk. Her job is to engage with guests. As people move through the lobby, the robot will call them over and ask whether they need information or assistance.

Pepper can draw attention by gesturing, humming a tune or even by clearing her throat.

"
“Not only can Pepper handle information requests but will also serve as a source of entertainment that we hope will provide an enjoyable element of surprise for guests of all ages,” Donald Bowman, the hotel’s general manager, said in a statement.

The robot can personalize her verbal communication by detecting a guest’s facial, body and voice cues. She can determine age, gender and even mood, according to the hotel.

Pepper also is fine with posing for selfies.

The robot is the creation of SoftBank Robotics Europe, a French company."

A bulk of humanity are viewed a useless eaters by the elite. When they discuss depopulation they say "We still need some people to make the stuff." I've heard claims that they've had robot armies underground in different locations on the planet. DARPA wanted/wants to create a robot that can consume flesh to fuel it. Kent Dunn said there's only 100 million humans on the planet and the rest are something else. I didn't get a good explanation of what hard & soft holograms are as far as categorizing them.
