yesterday Debbie gave her all for her school during a fierce driving rain that almost called the football game. Debbie never missed a mark or a rep keeping the crowd in the game.
most of B squad had fled the field and A was not far behind. yet her and her friends stayed .
She was Awarded MVP and inspiring awards.
Today she is laid up with the chills..
Rikki and her sister are tending to her..
her weekend is over as she recovers

Amazon refurb laptop. First one was junk - initiated return. Aggravated but not that big a deal.
Replacement arrives. Nice shape ! Set it up. Wrong power supply. 65 watt. Should be 90 watt. PC is bitching about it.

Spent waaaaaaay too much time in a chat window with Amazon. Oh my aching manparts.

Refurb laptop #1 $200
Refurb laptop #2 $200
Trip to UPS store for return I didn't appreciate - free! Since it's only my time which clearly has no value .......
Have to order out of my own pocket the correct supply because of offshore customer service excellence. $35

Total: $435 out of pocket for a $200 order. I will get $235 credit assuming there aren't sunspots or an alien invasion.
I'll probably get it but it'll take a week or two at least.

And somehow I am unhappy with all that.

Headed downstairs. Gonna slam my head in the basement door until I feel better.

Amazon is fine. Believe it or not the best prices I get for car parts come from Amazon and RockAuto.

I'll get my refund - which is why I handed then $32 for a power supply I could've paid $9 for on eBay. Yesterday was a real stinker I could've done without

What's wrong with this picture?

I have a good friend who just applied for a school bus driver job. This is what us old quasi-retired f***ers do sometimes.
He has to apply for a commercial permit and then take a road test on a school bus. Reliable people to do that are in short supply around here for some reason and bus companies trip over themselves to offer sign on bonuses, training, etc.

He went to the DMV and his commercial permit application was rejected because his original birth certificate is tattered. Imagine that - a 57 year old piece of paper is worn. So he applied for a replacement but the delay cost him the sign on bonus of a couple of thousand $$ he had hoped for. Hopefully he'll get his paperwork in order to the satisfaction of the ogre at the DMV and he can still get the job. The standard NY driver's license already in his pocket, his registered vehicles, proof of insurance already in the DMV database has no bearing on this. Need a piece of paper from Way Back.

But right behind him in line at the DMV could very well be an illegal alien who they will hand a NY driver's license to.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that if they are here illegally and have been driving illegally that they might not be inclined to actually pay for insurance or have a properly registered car. A coworker of mine a few years ago was t-boned by just such a person. Broke his NECK and nearly paralyzed him. Took years to be able to walk again and he's lucky he can. To my knowledge the drunk man who hit him was released never to be seen again.

Note that the press release trails off mid sentence. Never found the rest. I guess they put that much care and consideration into the whole matter

Assembly Passes Driver's License Access and Privacy Act #GreenLightNY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 12, 2019

Speaker Carl Heastie, Transportation Committee Chair William Magnarelli and Labor Committee Chair Marcos Crespo today announced the Assembly has passed the Driver's License Access and Privacy Act, also known as the Green Light Bill, to create safer roads for all New Yorkers, boost the state's economy and protect hardworking New Yorkers and their families (A.3675-B). Until 2001, this fundamental privilege was extended to all New Yorkers, regardless of immigration status.

"While opponents continue to spread misinformation and stoke fears about the bill's intent and consequences, the Assembly Majority will continue to put the needs of New Yorkers first," said Speaker Heastie. "The legislation passed today will promote public safety, protect our state's economy and ensure every New Yorker can integrate into their community and care for their family. Making sure that every driver is trained, tested and insured will make New York's roads safer for everyone and ensure that our industries have the labor they need to keep our economy moving."

"What many people do not realize is that undocumented immigrants are already on the road, but they are doing so without a license or insurance. Safe roads mean every driver is properly licensed, informed of traffic laws, passes a driver's test, and is operating a registered, inspected and insured vehicle," said Assemblymember Magnarelli. "Today's legislation will also allow police to verify motorist identity and review their traffic record. It is truly in the best interest of traffic safety for all New Yorkers."

"Today, the Assembly passed the Green Light Bill which aims to restore all New Yorkers' access to driver's licenses," said Assemblymember Crespo. "This legislation allows for undocumented immigrant New Yorkers, who contribute to our state economy in so many ways, to drive safely to and from school, work, and home. Not only will our roads throughout New York State be safer, but families of immigrants will have more peace of mind while their loved ones are on the roads. Thank you to the Speaker for his leadership and support, to my colleagues in the assembly, and to the advocates' unwavering activism throughout the state."

The Driver's License and Privacy Act would expand the types of proof of identity that could be submitted with an application for a non-commercial driver's license that does not meet federal standards for identification. An applicant without a social security number could instead submit a signed affidavit that they have not been issued a social security number.

Twelve states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia have enacted legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain a driver's license, many of which have reported fewer accidents and traffic fatalities. A 2017 Stanford University study found that California's law expanding access to drivers' licenses led to a drop in hit-and-run accidents between seven and 10 percent, or approximately 4,000 fewer hit-and-run accidents, and saving not-at-fault drivers $3.5 million in out-of-pocket expenses for car repairs.

Today's legislation would make everyday tasks such as getting to work, shopping for groceries or picking up kids from school vastly easier for an estimated 265,000 people in New York, including 64,000 north of New York City. The policy change would generate an estimated $57 million in combined government revenues that would recur annually, as well as a $26 million one-time boost in revenues as more people get licenses and

As for what's in it, you make an excellent point. Unfortunately MiB policy has recently been updated and as a retiree I have to leave the alien tech secure back in the Office. Seems that some people haven't been careful and when certain things are let loose they pester the hell out of aircraft carriers. Who knew? Worse than my dog and the UPS truck.

So I put together an alternative kit that should contain anything I might reasonably be expected to deal with

There is a clip I'd love to find but haven't been able to. I think it's on the first episode of the last X-Files 'My Struggle'

I loved the scene at Roswell and specifically the one where the government agent catches up to a wounded ET and unloads his .45 into it. He say to the shocked man next to him "What? The damned thing coulda been dangerous...."

Got a kick out of that and it kind of gave me the idea.
