Cars make weird noises. I just had a hard to track down and very disturbing noise coming out of my old 'vette. A sharp metallic tapping down very low in the motor, like in the oil pan. Only happened when the car was warmed up and I'd hear it when sitting at a light next to a car or something else for the sound to bounce off of. I was worried, thought it was the kiss of death. Easy fix - just a loose dust shield.

An oil change at a real shop not a quickie drive through would let a real mechanic take a peek. Might be something simple, often is. Good luck with it.

I have a great mechanic but, he takes his sweet time. One time he kept the car for 3 weeks. This is his busiest time so, I am going to have to settle for a quickie oil change for now. Winter is here and I have not been well so, I haven't been able to get anything done. The rush is on and I also have limited funds (very limited) to work with. I only get paid once a month.

Once I get my errands done and everything else done I can take the car to him and have him run a diagnostics that costs about $100. Til then, fingers crossed.

As I remember, those GM v6's have a bunch of flimsy metal heat shields on the exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. That would be the first place I would look.
