Aliens, who exactly are they?

well, if you're on a forum that talks about aliens and you mention that you met one then maybe there'll be a question or two ..... just saying .....

Why mention it if you don't want to talk about it? I've had girlfriends like this ...... :)

To take those reports seriously is to literally take them out of context. They served their purpose, a mixture of dark humor and cautionary tales.

I tend to generally agree Pigfarmer, but I always thought that the Kelly Hopkinsville Encounter case from way back in the mid-fifties was a little bit more intriguing than others of it's kind... The Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter-UFO Casebook Files
… incidentally... so did Steven Spielberg , did you know that his original idea for Close Encounters Of The Third Kind was going to be based on this case,... but decided to have a kind of collage of other real life cases like the Portage County incident instead.

Cheers Buddy.

@Shadowprophet lives right there. I know he's commented on this before but right now I'm drawing a blank.
I'd like to hear what the locals think.

Good question. I hope some of them are humanoid carbon based life forms like us, so we'd have more in common.

It'd be hard to speak with a Silica based life form in an environment rich of Silicon Tetrafluoride. Or again with a specie who uses chromatophores, changing patterns on their skin to communicate through colors and the intensity of those or through the arrangement of specific sequences which are unknown to us.
Would be hard to communicate (even dangerous) with any other specie that doesn't use the visible spectrum but establish a contact irradiating UV or through acoustic waves, at frequencies that cannot be heard with our human auditory system.

What if they're deaf? what if they're accustomed to pump a venomous substance (for us) in the body of the creature they're communicating with as a way to greet them handing over part of their mass? what if they're used to sneak in someone's body to establish a contact, causing potential damage to our health?

Being less disastrous and grim, they ways they could communicate should be certainly a subject of studies.
Going back to the aliens with chromatophores, i believe our communication with them would be probably null in the same way as we try to understand dolphins: perhaps they're talkative and are telling us a large amount of things that we cannot comprehend, but the fact that we haven't yet cracked the code of the dolphin vocabulary limit us deeply in our interaction with them.
Maybe some of their clicks aren't as simple as we think and we are the ones who reduce their pletora of sounds in a simplified spectrum of basic emotions.

Another hypothesis of mine is that if they're not so exotic as described above, they may be far from being interested in entertaining any form of dialogue with us after a first encounter. Why so you may ask. Well, they could prefer to step away from any complication that eventual multiple encounters could offer.
What they may seek, instead, is an aseptic relationship to study us, to study our culture, our behavior, our biological diversity, the resources of our planet, the secret of our biological evolution, our history... for pure scientific curiosity.

The latter hypothesis seriously depress me though.
I always dreamed to date a blue skinned humanoid girl that could teach me the real meaning of love and introduce me to her alien parents, even if our cultural diversity later could cause a misunderstanding between us and i'd wind up discovering with my great dismay that she adopted me as pet rather than accept me as her partner.

Funny.., if they appear as a Green Orioness. People are are like, "Hey there!!! Wanna get to know each other?"

But if they appear as metallic glowing bug eyed lanky critters, it is more like, "Get the damn shotgun!!!"

I guess that's just a human primitive condition.,, if it is sexy, it is friendly but if it looks weird, shoot it.

If it looks like the predator from the movies I would have a hard time inviting it into my house...just saying lol...

Alien life by definition is , well, alien. Speculating about appearance and motives is all fine and well based on witness reports but we truly have no idea. @Ray has a point - communication with something truly not from around here might be zone far outside our expectation that we wouldn't even recognize the attempt.

If you met me you'd take that straight back, apart from the first bit.
I doubt that I would Pepe, Everyone thinks they are something they aren't. But here in the forums, We are only what our words make us out to be. You speak words that are true and wise. Therefore, Those words speak the truth in you.

And now without further delay, I'm off to get high :D

Being a true Brit it's awkward to accept praise but I do thank you. Equally awkward to give praise also but you are a good soul and a great judge of character.

Most communication from any other worldly advanced species will be telepathy. This is simply because it is the one true form of universal communication. With it they can communicate with lower life forms as well.

Forms of communication can and are as you pointed out and there are more. But as a species advances they will reach a point where they realize that the best way to communicate to alien life and almost all life is telepathy.

IMHO

Blue skinned women?
How about semitransparent humanoid females. Picture that...

Telepathy is a thorny problem. What if we're not physiologically structured to communicate in this way?
For example the Electromagnetic Waves we can perceive are in a range between 400 and 790 Terahertz and that's the so called visible spectrum, but there are a lot of other frequencies below or above that range we can't see with our eyes.
It's the same for sound waves, our physiology is simply not structured to hear certain frequencies.

We can say that perhaps some individual among us have unlocked certain specific perks that are in their genetic code, however the tests done in that sense have always been inconclusive.
There's a correlation between oxytocin and the ability to read someone else mind, but this peculiar perk is drastically reduced if the subject has no way to interact with the target beforehand and if they have basically nothing in common.
Monozygotic twins can guess better than anyone else what their brother/sister think. Is it telepathy? is more a case of an accurate mind reading as they're almost the same individual with few shades of diversity, something that drastically change if they end up living far from the other and have different experiences.

I'd love to communicate via telepathy with my blue babe though.

Telepathy does not work that way. It is not a working part of the physical world, but operates in the metaphysical. All life has a life force. Telepathy originates from that and it is that that allows to communication to all life in the Multiverse.
