The cold weather has kicked in here lately, my day started at 03:00 am when my alarm went off, the car is going in the shop tomorrow to get the fuel injection looked at because it wouldn't run very well and kept stalling out, running too lean...So by 03:45 I decided to walk to work which is a 45 minute walk and the temperature was 19 degrees this morning...Got to work at 04:30 am and by 10:00 am it began, cascade software and mechanical failures throughout the plant creating all sorts of havoc and an all hands situation, the engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel including myself to get everything back operational again...The entire day the indoor plant temperature never went above 4o degrees because of bay doors open more than they were closed for forklifts to load trucks...I decided to work through lunch to get more done, in total I spent twelve hours working on this equipment in cold temperatures, then catching a ride home and and got my car into the shop before they closed...I have a ride set up for tomorrow and hope to get the car back tomorrow afternoon sometime...
I'm ready for Spring...
...
I understand brother, I once worked at a place that was a shipping hub for a franchise of convenience stores. What a lot of people don't understand about these shipping warehouses is, It's not like working at the actual convenience stores, It was just a big building with no heating or cooling and in the hottest days of summer temperatures could rach 127 in there. on one month two people died of heat exhaustion, I make it sound like a horror story, but the truth is, some places really are like that. The job paid well, but they expected it to get done, I'm sure someplace like Ocea would have literally shut the whole place down, But, I kid you not, Even though in the extreme temperatures people were actually Dying there, To my knowledge There was never an investigation.. My Sub comment about this is, One has to be aware of their work environment, Sometimes, People can find themselves in dangerous conditions and Managers prize productivity over safety. Always use caution brother, If the conditions were unworkable, I guess I would have just gone home that day. We all have to work to keep our lives together, But, Never forget, People will at times work you under conditions that they themselves would not tolerate. I Quit that warehouse and didn't give my two weeks notice I just Poped the boss the finger and walked out. It's not being weak, To not want to catch pneumonia brother. Which all brings me back to, Yeah, I so totally can't stand the cold
I know where your at on this whole stance, I've worked a lot in my life, I know the Work ethic says Shrug the cold off and once you get moving the cold becomes tolerable. Still, I won't work in the Rain or the extreme cold, I'll lose jobs over it because hell no, I won't do it.
