Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus

It is amazing to me how fragile our whole economic system can be.

One "nasty" virus and people are either over reacting or under reacting and with so much media hype, nobody really trusts anything.

It is this lack of certainty that is breaking everything.

Not the virus itself...

Hypothetical Scenario:
-----------------------------------
Allergy season is hitting here....
I just sneezed...
Is it JUST allergies, or am I to err on the extreem caution and assume I contagious?

I went to the dentist yesterday... should I tell them I sneezed?

Maybe I should call in sick? maybe I should self quarantine, just in case.

Well, I am not personally concerned. I recognize an allergy for what it is...
But if I sneeze in public, will I be accused of spreading it if someone gets sick later?

I won't bother getting tested... no reason to waste a test... and I dont want to know anyway... it is better not to know... you know?

I will just stock up on things and stay indoors till May.

Yeah... 300 cans of beans should do it... and to be sure, 500 rolls of toilet paper... yeah... that should hold me. Ooooh... and 500 Candy Bars... Hey, it might as well be fun, right? "HELLO, Delivery service? Yeah... just put it on my account... I will open the garage... leave it all in there... Thanks!"

End of Hypothetical Scenario
-------------

My reality:
I do not know of anyone that has it here. I guess I will head on in to work now.

I think we'll get past this in a few weeks - certainly hope so anyway. Regardless I have to go to work tonight in what was already a filthy dump.

We have people running to supermarkets in droves causing large numbers of people to congregate in relatively small areas. After what I witnessed last night I think Hudson said it best:

Game over, man! We're fucked!

The shadow

The shadow knows!
In light of Gov. Tony Evers’ declaration of a public health emergency for Wisconsin and growing concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, Madison Roller Derby today decided to CANCEL our game planned for March 14 at the Alliant Energy Center.

The decision was made with input from league members and based on the best available public health recommendations, with thanks to the WFTDA, Public Health Dane County, and other entities offering guidance in this difficult time. MRD takes its role as a community member seriously and wants to do everything in our power to ensure the health and safety of our members, our fans, and our community at large. In short, this is the right thing to do.

We will be issuing automatic refunds for tickets already purchased online for this weekends’ game. Tickets purchased in person at an outlet will be honored at any future MRD home game.

With that in mind, we are also humbly asking that anyone who is able donate directly to our league in lieu of attending the game this weekend, to help us cover the sunk costs of the venue and promotion. Donations are tax deductible and can be made online at www.madisonrollerderby.org/our-home.html.

As an all-volunteer, grassroots organization that relies on revenue from our public games to keep us going, the cancellation will be financially difficult to weather. We’re hopeful, though, that with support from the community and our many skaters and volunteers, we’ll be able to keep rolling for many years to come.

Keep your eyes peeled, too, as we look for new dates to hopefully reschedule this game and any others we may need to cancel due to continue health concerns.

MRD wishes to thank all our incredible fans and supporters and apologize for any inconvenience this decision may cause. We hope that by taking proactive steps to limit exposure, however, we can do our small part to flatten the curve of infection rates and prevent this from becoming an even bigger strain on our families and neighbors and health care providers.

With gratitude,
Gaile Schwickrath (aka Just Alice), Executive Director
Emily Mills (aka Hammer Abby), General Manager
The Madison Roller Derby Executive Board & the entire league

wow.. my twins were really looking forward to this

I hate to throw this in here, But it is time to use financial advantages. With the Stock market falling, This is a pretty good time to Buy Gold and Silver. Platnum and I guess palladium if you want to get crazy, I never invest in palladium, It's Just not a sound investment, Most people Think It's standard platinum and try to bottom dollar you, Gold and Silver though.

Silver is 15 dollars an ounce right now, Be cabbaging on that people, I already ordered a Tube of Walking liberty 1 oz's and Just because It was deemed affordable, I got some ten-ounce Silver bars. To be honest, Gold is still at a high, It's not really a sold investment right now if you are looking to resell and make money. Buy low and sell high, Gold isn't low enough right now to fuck with honestly.

Home <-- This place Buys and sells. I do business with them quite a bit.

Look yall, It's a pain in the ass, But you can make money doing this, Buy low, sell back when it's high, It's literally free money made from investments. It buys itself after the initial investment.

Side note, Be careful if you buy Gold from these guys, They Like to sell 22-carat gold, Make sure when you pay for it, It's 24 carats If it doesn't specify that it's 24 carat in the description just keep looking for the 24-carat stuff, They have it... 24 carat is pure gold, You don't want to invest into 22. it's not worth it.

Trump to declare National Emergency amid coronavirus pandemic
President Trump announced that he plans to hold a press conference to address the coronavirus crisis, as concerns over the spreading outbreak wreak havoc on the economy and American life.

Keep in mind, the Stock market will fall, Silver may go down to below 10 dollars an ounce, It would be silly not to invest in silver and gold at this time.

Is there a cheap inexpensive solution to make the situation better?
Bet on this, if there is, the information will be distorted and/ot suppressed as there is no money to be
made by 'big pharma' and other special interests in cheap, inexpensive solutions!

For example {and supposedly this has been debunked}:

Can Vitamin C Prevent and Treat Coronavirus?
"
In a mad dash to discover effective treatment for the novel coronavirus, doctors and scientists are testing existing antivirals, antimalarials, monoclonal antibodies, and other medications against COVID-19. Now Chinese teams are adding vitamin C to the list of potential therapies.

ZhiYong Peng, MD of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University recently registered a phase 2 clinical trial on ClinicalTrials.gov to test the efficacy of vitamin C infusions for the treatment of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) associated with the novel coronavirus.

The study description notes that vitamin C is an antioxidant that may help prevent cytokine-induced damage to the lungs. Cytokines are small proteins released by cells, which trigger inflammation and respond to infections, according to MedicineNet author William C. Shiel Jr., MD, FACP, FACR. Severe lung inflammation with COVID-19 may result in respiratory distress and even death.

The clinical trial description states that vitamin C reduces the inflammatory response, and both prevents and shortens the duration of the common cold. The description further states that insufficient vitamin C is related to an increased risk and severity of influenza infections. The team aims to see if vitamin C has similar effects against viral pneumonia associated with COVID-19.........."

See whole article here:
Can Vitamin C Prevent and Treat Coronavirus? - MedicineNet Health News

Remember there is no money to be made in Vitamin C
- And 'THEY' quickly disputed this cheap and helpful, if not completely
effective cure and preventive.

In any case some extra Vitamin C will probably not hurt you.

National Emergency just declared by Pres.

WTF ?!?!?!

How many people have actually died - I mean percentage wise???

Why do I smell an agenda? - Yes, and I'm in both high risk groups.

But the risk I keep smelling is not death by virus - It's the end of our Democracy by,
what did Trump call it, fake news

- In this case the fake news creates a panic, destroys the World's economy,
and allows our political, military, industrial complex to take actions
that end the American Republic you were born in.

That's the real threat, not the virus, but the people who are manipulating the news to
panic the public !!!

Bernie Sanders warns coronavirus deaths could exceed armed forces casualties in WWII

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., warned on Thursday that the potential deaths and economic impacts of the coronavirus were "on a scale of a major war."

"Nobody knows what the number of fatalities may end up being or the number of people who may get ill, and we all hope that that number will be as low as possible," Sanders, a 2020 presidential candidate, said during a speech from Vermont.

"But we also have to face the truth and that is that the number of casualties may actually be even higher than what the armed forces experienced in World War II. In other words, we have a major, major crisis and we must act accordingly."

Sanders' prediction seemed to align with worst-case projections released by the Centers for Disease Control. The agency reportedly offered percentage estimates that into a death count range from 200,000 to 1.7 million. The U.S. military saw more than 400,000 deaths and nearly 700,000 wounded as a result of World War II.

Panic buyers empty shelves across the country and cops tell people to stop calling 911 over line-skippers as thousands flood into stores over coronavirus fears

Manhattan shoppers mobbed a Trader Joe's store in New York Friday afternoon as widespread panic buying continues over coronavirus fears. The usually quiet store in Manhattan's Lower East Side was bombarded by a queue of around 50 shoppers desperately trying to stock up on supplies. Panic buying in the Big Apple came as LA cops warned shoppers to stop calling 911 over line cutting outside stores. One shopper called 911 on Thursday to report a huge fight involving more than 1,000 people over supplies at a Costco in Cancon County, Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station said the reports were false and the 'person called because customers were cutting in line'. The warning to stop wasting police time came as officers had been called to similar false reports at a Californian Costco store last week. People across the US have gone into a shopping frenzy stockpiling emergency supplies amid coronavirus fears as the US death toll reached 42 on Friday.

Europe is now the EPICENTER of coronavirus: WHO issues stark warning the continent has more daily cases than China did at the HEIGHT of its outbreak as countries rush to build emergency wards

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared Europe the 'epicentre' of coronavirus today as he lamented the 'tragic milestone' of 5,000 global deaths from Covid-19. He added that Europe now has 'more reported virus cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined, apart from China'. The claim that Europe is now outpacing China at its peak is particularly striking because the continent's population, at around 740million, is well below China's population of nearly 1.4billion. Tedros did not provide numbers for his comparison with China, but Europe's count has risen by around 16,000 since Monday - an average of 4,000 a day.

At the height of the crisis in China in early February, Beijing health bosses were regularly reporting around 3,000 new infections a day. In Europe, medics have been working from tents in Italy (bottom right in Brescia) and Poland with patients placed on temporary beds while they are tested for the virus which has now killed more than 1,200 people in Europe (top right, medics take a patient away on a stretcher in Belarus). In Russia, diggers were working into the night on a new infectious diseases clinic in the village of Babenki - reminiscent of China's hurried hospital construction when the outbreak began.

Iran imposes nationwide lockdown within 24 hours so EVERY citizen can be checked for coronavirus as regime struggles to contain outbreak

Iran's security forces will clear the streets within 24 hours so all citizens can be checked for coronavirus. The COVID-19 epidemic in Iran - a nation of more than 80 million people - has now claimed over 500 lives and infected more than 11,000.

Since it announced the first deaths last month, Iran has shut schools, postponed events and discouraged travel ahead of Nowrouz, the country's New Year holidays. But despite those and other measures including the cancellation of the main weekly Friday prayers, the official number of deaths and infections has continued to grow exponentially.

Denmark and Poland CLOSE their borders to all tourists in coronavirus lockdown with schools, universities, shops, and restaurants forced to shut

Denmark and Poland are temporarily closing their borders to non-citizens in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus. The two countries have also clamped down on public gatherings and ordered schools, shops and restaurants to shut.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said at a press conference: 'All tourists, all travel, all vacations, and all foreigners who cannot prove a creditable purpose of entering Denmark, will be denied entrance at the Danish border. The closure would not apply to the transport of goods, including foods, medicine and industry supplies.

Italian doctor says overwhelmed hospitals are at 'complete saturation' and receiving new coronavirus patients every five minutes as death toll climbs 250 in a day to 1,266

Hospitals in the Italian city of Milan are said to be at full 'saturation', a doctor has revealed - with the country's coronavirus outbreak still predicted to be two weeks away from it's peak.

Dr. Massimo Galli, head of the infectious disease unit at Sacco Hospital in Milan, said the facility has been accepting new patients every five minutes.

His warning comes as Italian civil protection authorities said today that the number of infections has soared by more than 2,500 in 24 hours while virus-related deaths made the largest single-day jump of 250.

That took the total number of infected in Italy to 17,660 and the number of related deaths to 1,266.

'Don't believe the numbers you see': Johns Hopkins professor says up to 500,000 Americans have coronavirus

“Don’t believe the numbers when you see, even on our Johns Hopkins website, that 1,600 Americans have the virus,” he said. “No, that means 1,600 got the test, tested positive. There are probably 25 to 50 people who have the virus for every one person who is confirmed.”

He added: “I think we have between 50,000 and half a million cases right now walking around in the United States.”

Part of the reason the number of cases might be higher without people realizing it is because of the shortage of coronavirus testing kits from the CDC. Between Jan. 18 and March 12, there were 13,624 tests for COVID-19 conducted in the U.S. Meanwhile, South Korea has conducted over 100,000 tests, and the U.K. has tested nearly 25,000 people.

“The CDC did admit to a mistake in the rollout of the testing and let’s face it — they went with the wrong testing system,” Makary said. “It was an early decision. It lived deep within the CDC and they have acknowledged that mistake.”

Despite issues with having enough testing kits for coronavirus, Makary said this didn’t change how he and other health professionals have been treating their patients.

“If we see you with coronavirus, we treat you the same regardless of that test result,” he said. “If it’s influenza or coronavirus, we give you respiratory support when it is needed. We recommend the same precautions. It’s helpful to mitigate the spread but that’s where the testing situation stands now.”

McDonald's, Chipotle, and Other Fast Food Chains Are Responding to COVID-19

In response to the pandemic, which includes 1,629 cases in the U.S. as of Friday, McDonald's told Good Housekeeping that the chain is practicing enhanced safety by taking measures like "increasing the stock of sanitizing hand gel dispensers" in the entrances of their restaurants. Meanwhile, a rep from Five Guys tells us that the burgers-and-fries chain is carrying out additional cleaning for all "customer touch points" (door handles, condiment tables, and other high-touch surfaces) while store managers are reinforcing the company's illness policies so all potentially sick employees stay home. Meanwhile, Chipotle is offering free delivery from March 15-31 as well as tamper-proof seals on its food orders to make sure guests know their meal hasn't been touched during the delivery process.

It appears that for now, the majority of big fast food chains are planning to keep their doors open amid the steady spread of COVID-19 in the U.S. But to be clear, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes that the coronavirus is spread from person to person mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person sneezes or coughs in close proximity to someone else, not via food consumption. That said, it's important to do what feels right for you.

Here are some of the fast food restaurants we've confirmed are still open for business (note that this list is subject to change):
  • McDonald's

  • Subway

  • Starbucks

  • Dunkin’

  • Pizza Hut

  • Burger King

  • Wendy’s

  • Taco Bell

  • Domino's

  • Dairy Queen

  • Little Caesars

  • KFC

  • Sonic

  • Papa John's

  • Arby's

  • Jimmy John's

  • Baskin-Robbins

  • Chipotle

  • Chick-fil-A

  • Popeyes

  • Jack in the Box

  • Panda Express

  • Panera

  • Hardee's

  • Jersey Mike's

  • Papa Murphy's

  • Five Guys

  • Auntie Anne’s

  • Wingstop

  • Carl's Jr.

  • Firehouse Subs

  • Church’s Chicken
More food delivery options:

Food delivery services are also doing their part to limit the chances of spreading the virus. Postmates announced that customers now have the option of a "non-contact" delivery — in other words, you can select to have your food left at the door so you don't have to interact with the driver. Door Dash is giving customers the ability to text a photo to the driver of where you'd like your food to be left.

While customers who use GrubHub and UberEats have long been able to send digital messages and instructions to delivery drivers via their apps, the feature is now especially helpful if you're concerned about avoiding direct contact with others.

Instacart is also allowing its customers to take advantage of a new “Leave at My Door Delivery” feature, which lets you choose to have your groceries left outside the door at a designated time.

Right now, the CDC recommends distancing yourself from those who are sick as well as others, especially if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.

CDC's nightmare coronavirus scenario projects that up to 1.7 MILLION Americans could die and 214 MILLION could be infected

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has projected in a worst-case scenario that up to 65 percent of Americans could be infected with coronavirus. According to The New York Times, a closed-door meeting was held last month among CDC officials and dozens of epidemic experts from around the world.

One of the CDC's leading epidemiologists presented four scenarios - named A, B, C and D - to show possible ways the virus could spread throughout the US population. The federal health agency projects that in the worst-case scenario, between 160 million and 214 million people would be sickened. In a projection, even if interventions started today - such as drive-thru testing and barring visitors from nursing homes - as many as three million Americans might fall ill.

_______________

In the four different scenarios, each person who is diagnosed with coronavirus is assumed to infect two to three people; the hospitalization rate is either three percent or 12 percent; and either .25 percent or one percent of all infected people die.

In the worst-case scenario, as many as 21 million people were hospitalized and up to 1.7 million people died.

The hospitalization scenario is particularity concerning considering that the US only has a little more than 924,000 staffed beds in hospitals according to the American Hospital Association.
