Coronavirus: Italy and France have highest daily deaths from COVID-19

Italy and France have had their highest number of deaths from coronavirus in a day, with 475 and 89 more fatalities respectively. The Italy deaths - an increase of 19% in the last 24 hours - bring the country's total to 2,978.

Italy also had a large rise in coronavirus cases, with 4,207 confirmed on Wednesday, bringing the total to 35,713, the Civil Protection Agency said.

The 89 deaths in France took the total to 264, an increase of almost 51% and much higher than the previous high of 36 deaths, as the country struggled with its second day of a nationwide lockdown.

Confirmed cases in France rose by 1,404 on Wednesday from the day before - an increase of 18% - bringing the total to 9,134. Health agency director Jerome Salomon said 931 people were in serious condition, needing life support.

China sent medical supplies to France on Wednesday, returning a favour done by the French weeks ago.

.

It's highest in both those places because they are very close nit family units that are touchy feely. Constantly kissing, hugging and it is common for extended family to live with you. And almost everyone smoke cigarettes.

I decided to go shopping again today and I got everything I wanted, including a 30 pack of tp.

I did forget a few things but nothing essential so I am not going to bother going out again.

Alberta Motor Association closed it's doors to walk in traffic. I was suppose to renew my registration by the end of the month but, they have extended all registrations until May 15. I said does that mean that if a police officer sees my expired tags they won't stop me? Apparently that is the case because the government was the one that made them close the registry offices until further notice.

Some are suggesting that the internet may go down. Not sure why.

To all my fellow members here, stay strong and try not to worry too much. Worrying will not add a single day on to your life. Use the common sense, keep your hands clean and keep your distance from others. If you follow those rules you and your loved ones should be alright. Cyber hugs are still permitted.

Zimbabwe minister: Coronavirus is God’s punishment for West

Zimbabwe’s defence minister has called the coronavirus pandemic a “punishment” of the US and Europe for imposing sanctions against members of the ruling regime over human rights abuses. Coronavirus has infected more than 150,000 people worldwide and killed almost 6,000 since it was first detected in China last December.

“Coronavirus is the work of God punishing countries who imposed sanctions on us,” said Zimbabwe’s defence minister Oppah Muchinguri on Saturday, speaking at a rally in the northern town of Chinhoyi.

“They are now staying indoors. Their economies are screaming just like they did to our economy.”

The United States and the European Union first imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe during the despotic rule of the country’s late ex-president Robert Mugabe, ousted by the military in November 2017.

The measures were aimed at high-ranking officials and government institutions, including travel bans on Mugabe and his inner circle. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been battling to re-engage with the West since he took office in 2017.

But the US extended sanctions this month to two security officials accused of orchestrating a violent crackdown on protests over a delay in election results in 2018, killing six.

Muchinguri said: “They must feel the effects of coronavirus and understand our pain,” she said.

Do you think there's any possibility this was engineered by Chinese in that lab in Wuhan and got released somehow?...

...
I've considered this, Honestly, I'd like to think this was just an accident that happened because of those wet markets. However, there is the possibility that china doesn't care about its own people, it allows them to starve in poverty, So, These actions that China has been taking globally while scorning the u.s, like showing up to help Italy, China is capitalizing on peoples vulnerability because Italy will see them as a hero after this is said and done. But, I have learned in my lifetime and through my bipolar experiences that every time I think the worst, I am wrong, I am hoping this was a terrible accident that came about by negligence. But truthfully we own them trillions of dollars. it is possible that the plan is to weaken the world, And then swoop in and take over. that while it sounds crazy, is on the table as a possibility.

I would stay on here longer, But Jordan is over with her Boyfriend, He has panic attacks at night, The worst I've ever seen. kicking screaming and throwing things. IT's terrible. But. I have had a few panic attacks myself, his aren't like mine, But his are real, He needs constant care. I will be back when I can be.

Coronavirus killing more than a person an hour in NYC

Between just 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., 14 people in New York City died from the virus, pushing the Big Apple’s total death toll to 43.

The toll had been 29 prior to Friday’s jump in deaths.

MORE THAN 50 NYPD POLICE OFFICERS TEST POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS

It was the first time that the city’s single-day toll had hit double digits.

And the city’s Health Commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot, warned New Yorkers that double-digit daily deaths may well become the new normal, at least for a time.

Final bell on Wall Street: New York Stock Exchange trading floor closes indefinitely due to coronavirus as Dow plunges 913 points and erases the gains of Trump's presidency in worst week for stocks in three decades

The final bell has rung on Wall Street.

Stocks closed sharply down on Friday, as the New York Stock Exchanged conducted its final session of live floor trading, moving all trades online after two traders tested positive for coronavirus.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 913.21 points, or 4.55 percent, to 19,173.98, after New York and California imposed tough restrictions to keep people at home to try to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

It marks the first time the Dow has closed below the closing price on President Donald Trump's inauguration day, after briefly dipping below that level in intra-day trading earlier this week.

It also wraps up the worst week on Wall Street since October 2008, and the worst month in three decades, with the main stock indexes down more than 30 percent from their highs of last month.

Still having a ball: Spring Breakers ignore coronavirus warnings to play volleyball and party on Florida beaches as officials move to shut down access

Spring Breakers, undeterred by coronavirus warnings, played volleyball and enjoyed the beach (left and top right) in Clearwater, Florida, Friday where officials were taking action to cut off access to the sand and surf by the start of next week. Meanwhile, most other beaches in Florida (bottom right) were already closed in attempts to contain the deadly outbreak. There have been 563 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Florida and 11 known deaths from the infection since the beginning of the global pandemic, reports the Florida Health Department.

Italy in Hell... Britain in weeks? Apocalyptic despatch from TOBIAS JONES in Parma of 'sirens and church bells tolling for the dead'

On Thursday night, Sky News broadcast a shocking new portrait of Italy's unfolding disaster, filming the chaotic scenes taking place inside the Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital in Bergamo, barely 100 miles from where I am in Parma. Patients, many wearing oxygen-rich 'bubble helmets' to help them breathe, were seen clutching their chests as they gasped for air. Beds filled the waiting room, the wards being full. The health system here risks being overwhelmed entirely and my fellow Britons should take note. This is what the NHS could face in a matter of weeks because the surge in UK infections all too closely resembles Italy's, writes TOBIAS JONES. (Pictured left, an intensive care unit in Oglio Po hospital in Cremona; top right, medics stretcher a coronavirus patient to hospital in Milan; bottom right, a doctor holds a tablet so that a patient can talk to his relatives in the ICU room of the Spedali Civili hospital in Brescia, northern Italy; and inset, a newly operational field hospital for coronavirus in Cremona, southeast of Milan.)
