Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus

Just on a side note.

I think Trump is done and now see his term coming to an end because of this crisis. I have always felt that WW2 once over, created a wave of liberation and saw the Western world open up.

Over the years we have been closing down gradually behind the scenes and this virus will have much the same effect as a world war I think.

It's just a feeling.

Have a look at #942 in this thread.

My brother is seriously ill. He was told to stay the hell away from his daughter who is sick and didn't. He has rheumatoid arthritis and it's scarred his lungs - he's constantly at risk and has already had close calls with pneumonia. He could die from the flu much less this. Unknown what she has but she was told to stay home for two weeks. She's a surgical tech in an outpatient type facility, not in a hospital. So of course he had to make a beeline straight for her, accomplish absolutely nothing except to become gravely ill.

I am very concerned about all of this, and at a personal level.

BThat said, the media is doing what it does - to shriek and pull its hair and make a nuisance of itself. It's being amped up and the fear is more contagious than the virus.

We've been locked down here a while and right now around here the hype doesn't match what we are seeing. The local hospitals are not overflowing, there are no Army troops on the streets, the dead are not being bulldozed into mass graves. Doesn't mean I'm running out to hug and kiss everyone I meet, doesn't mean I don't take this seriously. It does mean that I am taking media sources less seriously because of their preloaded doomspeke.

Hope you are coping with your brother's actions. Loads of judgements being made over people's behaviour during this. There are some that do understand the weight of how serious this is but I also understand how different we all are and act during times like this. I've seen some who were on the edge just waiting for something like this to tip the balance and hey presto you see a guy a dressed as Santa trying to spread joy. Saw him also get a talking to by the police and escorted from the street.

Hope your brother

I owe everyone an apology, I'm panicking too, And I'll do anything to deny that panic because if I don't admit it to myself in some way, it's not real, it would be unfounded, invalidated.

This is the scariest time of my life, I was willing to fight and argue, If I can pull you guys out of the panic then I was wrong and my panic wasn't justified.

I don't know what to do, Everything is so fucked up. I'm sorry, I'm not myself. I don't feel like myself, And I can't find peace from this fear.

I thought I was doing right, Trying to clam others. but I was doing it for selfish reasons, if everyone else was calm, Then My own panic and fear wasn't justified.

For what it's worth I'm sorry, Everything is a nightmare prison right now, and I can't escape it, I can't wake up. I'm going to be more silent than usual. I'm not doing well, I feel at this point, Most of what I could say would be fear-induced rambling.

I'm not going to make my problems your problems guys,

But the truth is, The current situation has driven me insane. It's not my death I fear, but there is no one who doesn't understand fear.

I fear to lose my wife, Losing my Father and Mother, Losing MY brother, My stepchildren, All those things that give my life value. And without them, What value is there, I tell you there would be none. No one can tell another man truly what his Value is. We all know it in our hearts. It's not just Fear, It's anger.

I seek to lay blame on someone because This could have been avoided. This terrible time didn't have to be. It's not fair.

I want you all to know, I'm sorry, You guys are all my friends you have been there for me and I know you understand, but, What Good am I to you Insane? I would be nothing more than a problem right now.

even in the worst case scenario, there is relatively small chance that any of your family members will die. You need to focus on becoming emotionally strong, because you can't help your family if you are emotionally weak. You'll be just a burden. Consider that, from the description, you are the one of the senior members of your family which means that majority of your family is looking up to you for support and, should I say, leadership. So, you need to clear up your mind, and focus on positive things. With positive mindset all the discipline that is required to defeat the virus will look much easier task, than with pessimistic mindset.

Thank you, Brother, I am trying, But every day when I wake up I look at the news and it's twice as bad as it was the day before. I don't have any experience in this, I've never been through something like this. I guess most of us haven't.

If news are irking you, just reduce the amount of news to one article per day. What's important is discipline, washing hands, wearing masks, keeping distance, not going out etc. for all family members. Everyday news are not that important because trend will not change for months.

Well, just got off the phone and there's some good news.
My niece has been sick over a week and has turned the corner, she's up and around and feeling better.
Her husband is a surgical nurse, combat medic, crappy mechanic, and he's been checking on my brother. He's up and functional. Has pneumonia but he has had in several times and will deal with it. I spoke to him this morning and found his stream of bitching and general obnoxiousness to be reassuring.

I was s*****g bricks there for a while. Sometimes I am incredibly thankful for the thousand mile barrier between me and my family, and sometimes not ......

Absolutely.

There's is a real difference between the hype and what's actually happening. Not making light of anything, but I can still call bullshit on a lot of the nonsense coming out of the TV and radio.

We have a ways to go in this crisis. This is post #1030 on the 52nd page of this thread.

Gene Steinberg's Financial Shenanigans stopped at #7447 on page 373.

Some people's behavior you just have to deal with because it'll never change. or only will if it kills them.

Santa Claus? I say attention whore. Celebrities and near-celebrities that must enrich us with tales of how they are surviving without their cleaning staff, personal trainers and the like - attention whores. I saw some reality-tv nitwit proudly mopping her own floor. If I knew where she lived I'd go over and take a huge dump on it.

Spain suffers its worst day for coronavirus deaths with 832 - bringing toll to 5,690 - as the army is handed emergency powers to transfer bodies because undertakers can't cope

The number of deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours is 832, it emerged this morning. It beats the previous Spanish record of 769 coronavirus deaths which was announced on Friday. The grim statistic means 5,690 people with the virus have now died in Spain. The number of new coronavirus cases registered in the past 24 hours is 8,000. On Monday a second makeshift morgue is due to start functioning in Madrid, Spain's worst affected area, after a retail centre ice rink where families paid six pounds a time to skate became its first stop-gap body drop because of the saturation funeral parlours were facing. Pictured: Priest gives a response in front the coffin of a woman who died of coronavirus disease (left) and members of the Military Emergencies Unit (top and bottom right).

I thought about that thread yesterday, last year the paracast thread was the mega-active thread and unfortunately this year this coronavirus thread is the pace car...Who would have known coming into this year right after x-mas that we would be in this situation...

'It's all so cruel': Fit and healthy father, 27, dies with coronavirus symptoms just 10 days after the birth of his son

Thomas Davies, 27, fell ill last Friday during his last shift at the Albion Inn, in Bangor, just days after the birth of his second son Morgan. What started as a cough quickly became aches and then cold sweats. The otherwise fit and healthy father passed away on Thursday, to the devastation of his partner Rhiannon Elias. His heartbroken mother revealed she had not even been able to hug family members in their grief because they were observing social distancing.

Mexican governor claims poor people are 'immune' from coronavirus

The governor of the central Mexican state of Puebla told reporters Wednesday that poor people "are immune" from the coronavirus. During his remarks, which broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook, Gov. Luis Miguel Barbosa posed a question, asking reporters which people were infected at the moment.

"The majority are wealthy people, you know," he said, answering his own question. "If you're rich you're at risk, but if you're poor, no, well us poor, we are immune."

There is no scientific evidence to suggest the virus effects people differently due to economic status. His remarks sparked an uproar on social media, with many questioning why a government official would spread information that has no basis in fact.

Barbosa noted that many of those who contracted the virus had recently traveled, suggesting a link between wealth and travel. Of Mexico's 475 confirmed cases so far, about 75% were connected to international travel, according to federal health statistics. As of Thursday afternoon, 44 people had tested positive for the virus in Puebla.

The Kremlin sends mixed messages on coronavirus as Russian cases spiral

Just over a week ago, President Vladimir Putin said Russia had the spread of coronavirus "under control." Now the country is changing tactics, as authorities acknowledge they are gearing up for a major Covid-19 outbreak.

In a nationwide address Wednesday, Putin conceded that it was "objectively impossible to stop [coronavirus] from spilling over" into a country of Russia's size. He urged Russians to "understand the complexity of the situation" and stay home, declaring next week to be a paid stay-at-home holiday.

It was a classic presidential performance, but Putin stopped short of delivering a bitter pill to the public. While he announced a number of measures to bolster the country's economy and encouraged citizens to stay home, he left it to other officials to announce more sweeping lockdown measures

On the morning following his speech, the Russian government announced it would seal its borders and cancel all international flights, with the exception of repatriation planes that are expected to bring thousands more Russians home from hard-hit areas.

Other officials are taking the coronavirus effort a step further. For days, the Kremlin had insisted that plans to quarantine residents of the capital were not on the table. But on Thursday, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin effectively moved to hit the pause button for the country's most vibrant economy, closing all restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and parks in the capital for a week starting Saturday.

Those measures are the strictest Russia has seen so far, as its official coronavirus toll began to increase rapidly. On Thursday, health officials reported the largest one-day increase to date with 182 new cases, bringing the total number to 840. Three people have died of Covid-19, according to Johns Hopkins University.
