Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus

Well yeah, id imagine if the world would stay home for a month, it would die off. The problem is society needs to function somewhat and it needs people for that, people going places.

I know that's true. but it took drastic measures like this to turn the tides in China and I assume Italy's cases are beginning to decline. I don't know for sure, I've been avoiding the news on this.

Finland has 1163(real count is probably 20-30 times higher) confirmed cases now and 9 deaths. Were about a week behind the rest of nordic countries. I hate to think what this looks like in about a month from now...

I've been freaking out it. It's not a good outlook, I tried spreading positivity, "That even I didn't Believe" Hoping to calm people down. But the truth is. Everyone is worried, I am too, Be as safe as you can be out there brother.

Im staying home since im part of the risk group and ordering groceries and other stuff home from store and apothecary. Only time im leaving is either to go for a walk on a empty path or taking out the trash, and i wash my hands carefully when done. I cant even see any of my friends, its just too risky now. Its gonna be like this for months. Im not panicking, ive avoided influenza and flu for years even on its risk seasons without the vaccine, so im not that worried i will catch this one. Im gonna minimize the risk by staying home. I am a bit worried someone from my apartment buildings will catch it and leave traces in the stairways or the dumpster shack, thats always a small risk.

So I will probably be ok. Probably...

And im always worried my father or his domestic partner will catch this, since they are also in the risk group, even tough he says hes doing his best to isolate too.

That's my Big worry, If course I'm scared of dying, But if I lost someone I loved that would be worse than death to me. I've not been able to stop worrying. When I was a child, I used to have panic attacks, But I outgrew them, It's funny how history catches up to someone, Since this Pandemic, I've been having them again. Sometimes, I think The fear will kill me. What really bothers me though more than the current situation, Is the progression of history since the early 2000's there have been Terrorist attacks, National emergencies, Diseases and worries of war, It's almost never-ending.

Sometimes I wonder If things ever really were as peaceful as I remember them from when I was a child. Or maybe, Things were always this bad And I simply didn't know of those things as a child.

Yeah i mean its a bit worrying how many new cases there are daily now, even here in Finland. Week ago it was about 30-60 new confirmed cases a day. Now its nearly doubled in volume this week. And my region Uusimaa, the main governing region in Finland, has the lions share of them. The whole region has been separated from the rest now. Theres about 1,7 million people in this region. Its worrying to see how bad shit will hit the fan here in the coming weeks or months and how bad a damage it will leave, both in lost lives and economically. I can only pray it will not be anywhere near as horrific as in Italy or Spain. Weve had more time to prepare and were more sparsely populated, so unless someone has screwed up badly.... well see...

Theyre still projecting thousands of deaths, even here.

Just went grocery shopping. Lots and lots of people out about, store shelves almost fully stocked. Today's fashion statement is surgical masks and gloves. Full face beards and masks for some, nose picking with blue gloves for another.

Now then, I've engaged the ventilator.
Once it warms up and begins to make positive pressure I'll dog the hatch shut, engage the perimeter defense.
Komodo dragons can't catch this stuff, right?

It does this exponentially, It's very rapid.

The best most helpful advice I can give is If it's at all possible. Try not to panic, Those numbers will keep doubling every day. Eventually, The reality catches up to you that you are experiencing a nightmare scenario.

However, I have noticed this. It hits some places much harder than other places brother. perhaps, It won't Hit Finland quite as hard as the U.S. For what It's worth, I wish the Best For Finland brother. Even though I am panicking and in Fear, Hope is a powerful thing. It can not be killed. I hope for the best outcome possible given the current situation brother.

No they can not catch it, But like anything, if they encounter it they can carry it. So be careful.

Yeah and even if it kills people, remember, most people will survive it, and develop immunity or resistance.

Im hoping the tide will begin to turn in the summer.

We should start pressuring China to hard ban its exotic animal markets. Otherwise these new viruses will just keep spawning.

This is a hard lesson for our country too. Though we are one of the best nations in the world to live in, this sense of peace and security has made our leaders lax and naive, and our citizens kinda blind to some possible consequences of the world at large, this is why the virus gained such a presence here to start with. Finland does not live in some safe bubble, no matter how much our citizens may wish it. If something bad happens elsewhere, it might eventually come here, and if its really bad it will, just a question of when.

Fratty and out of touch.
I know several people who own restaurants who could potentially lose their life savings. It's a horrible thing to think about.

What makes this so shocking is that this virus literally just came out of nowhere. You prepare for hurricanes and fires and other disasters but who saw this thing coming? Even 9/11 was not as shocking as this because we've known for a long time the US is susceptible to terrorism just like the rest of the world. Every day the world around me seems surreal. It's like a sci fi movie.

One thing I learned last month was that there is something called the Global Health Security index (ghsindex.org), which is a multinational ranking of nations in terms of their pandemic preparedness. Let's have a look at it:

Does this bear any relation to how well these nations are responding to this pandemic? South Korea is in ninth place, eight places behind the United States, at number one. Singapore and Taiwan not even in the top 15?

Trump considers quarantine on NY, NJ and Connecticut as pandemic shows no signs of slowing down

President Trump on Saturday said he is considering imposing an enforceable quarantine on New York, parts of New Jersey and parts of Connecticut as part of the efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus. “Some people would like to see New York quarantined because it’s a hotspot — New York, New Jersey, maybe one or two other places, certain parts of Connecticut quarantined,” he said outside the White House. “I’m thinking about that right now. We might not have to do it but there’s a possibility that sometime today we’ll do a quarantine — short term, two weeks for New York, probably New Jersey and certain parts of Connecticut.”

He said that if such a move happened, it would be primarily a restriction on residents of those states traveling to other parts of the country. He later said that, if enacted, it would not affect truckers or trade. He said that he had spoken to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and said there was a problem with people from New York traveling down to Florida: "We don't want that." "This will be an enforceable quarantine, but hopefully we won’t need it," he said.

The move would be a dramatic escalation of the efforts to stop the spread of the coronavirus, and comes on the back of those states essentially shuttering daily life -- closing schools, businesses, leisure activities and urging residents to stay at home.

UK's coronavirus death toll leaps by 260 in a single day to hit 1,019: Huge spike in victims as Britain suffers its bleakest day yet with more than 17,000 now infected but the daily rate of new cases drops slightly

Britain's coronavirus death toll rocketed by 260 to 1,019 today as Government advisers warned that even stricter social distancing measures could be on the way. It is the biggest daily increase the UK has seen, the Department of Health and Social Care said today. A total of 120,776 coronavirus tests have taken place, with 17,089 positive results and 103,687 people testing negative. Government advisers said stricter social distancing policies may have to be rolled out next month if the grim figures continued to rise.
