How is The Coronavirus affecting your life?

We're having a big meeting on Monday morning about this 'restructuring' as its being called by some, so I'll be all eyes and ears when its laid out on the table...I'm not one to jump ship at the first sign of a crack in the hull, but he knows he has me at a deal too, I'm worth a lot more than he's currently paying me and he knows it but I don't throw that in his face, he gives me a lot of leeway and flexibility...Since the coronavirus came to town ((Thanks China)) I have been given more flexibility to adjust my hours around the times of day I've been needed more, sometimes most hours in the mornings, some days more so in the afternoons, once in a while I'm needed on third shift late at night...Today for instance I went in at 4am then left for the day at 12:30 in the afternoon...So then an hour after I get home today he calls me, he has only called me at home twice before, and I never answer on the first ring, not with anyone, so I let it ring 5 times before answering...He really needed some work done to a piece of equipment, and was asking without asking if I could go to the facility tomorrow and work on this machine to have it ready to go for Monday morning operations...He asked without asking, meaning, he was saying everything in a certain way and in a certain tone so that I would offer to do the work for him, which also would be a freebee since I'm not on hourly wages and I already have almost 60 hours logged for this week...Being who I am, I of course offered and told him I would go in to work tomorrow...So I'm looking at a minimum 6 hours of work to do, and bringing my dog with me since I'll be the only one there...

Well I'm clear of pot for the first time in a while, funny how it can make you believe how much you need it to enjoy time but I'm clean as a whistle and have a different feel, I like it and will be staying so until who knows when, probably until the first one comes my way but i'm not buying or growing for now.

Clarity and energy are two things I have gotten used to missing but this is lovely. A freedom and a willing to comply has arrived with me. I've beaten big addiction of the worst kind and did that on my own, this is like another high but it's called normality and is free.

Here I am at work this morning working for free with a 'consideration' of a pay cut looming on the horizon...I'm fully prepared to hand in my resignation on Monday if I'm told in that meeting my pay is getting cut...Sorry but in my book, you can't cut back a person's salary who was already getting underpaid and hasn't received any wage increase in 2 years without consequences...

Do you have another job lined up? I left a job a number of years ago because of a spat about pay. I was working on short term contracts and the employer was pleased with my performance and wanted me to take on additional responsibilities with my next contract. However, they did not want to pay me any more money and I was still on the same rate as when I started a few years earlier, so I walked. Only then to discover that I was not worth as much on the job market as I thought I was.

This owner probably figures that his employees will take a pay cut. As it is a bad time to be looking for new employment I am betting the employees will bitch a lot but they won’t quit on him.

No I do not have another job lined up currently however I have been turning down job offers up until recently and a couple of those offers are almost double the rate of pay I'm making now...Granted a few of those offers are out of state jobs which would require me to relocate, some have been local and within driving range...I do not think I'll have any problem finding another job if things go sour here...In this region it's difficult to find an Electrical, Hydraulic, Mechanical, and PLC programming Engineer all in one with almost 40 years of overall experience...I also do not live paycheck-to-paycheck and realistically do not need start looking for a job right away, I'm not in any serious debt like many Americans I hardly have any debt at all, I'll be just fine...

With your high grade level of maintenance you should have no problems finding another job.I have found out over the years was its better to keep working and look for another job than to quit and try and find a job.If one keeps working and putting in applications the offers will be better and more than the other way.
Good luck on what ever you decide.

Well I may be giving my resignation at work, the owner of the company sent an email to all managers stating he is considering a 20% reduction in salary wages because of loss of production due to the coronavirus and shutting down the night shift since an employee tested positive for Covid-19...This is absurd, if he cuts my salary wages I am done with him...They need me more than I need them, if he cuts my pay he can F%@& himself...
...
I would ask him if in good years in the past if he is has payed you 20 or however much more percent.
I would tell him that I want a percentage of the sales of the company if he needs a scalable pay system. start negotiations at about 5 to 10 times your current pay. and remember not to link pay to profits, it is suer easy for someone to work things out so that there is no profit.

Thanks, my salary is six figures though, I wouldn't give any consideration to most of the jobs on that list...In the past I've went over a year without working for a company before a job comes along that I've accepted, I've also worked for myself for many years...I'm fortunate to have many options currently available, I know there's many Americans without work right now that don't have many options available to them...I have no problem leaving the full time workforce and strictly do selective contract work or take a break for a few months or look around for something else full time, I'm fine with any of those choices...I live within my means with very little debt and a modest lifestyle...

I had a procedure done today for my prostate. All went well and I am home now. The only problem is with the pain down below. Hopefully the pain pills will help calm things down over the next few days.

Nothing was said in the meeting about wages, but it was a tense meeting for some, two of the key production managers acted as if they were numb to the problems they face in production, they hardly spoke a word during the meeting with even the owner making an observational comment noticing that himself...lol

So later in the afternoon two ambulances, a police car, and some other emergency vehicle comes rushing in to the industrial complex and goes in the building across the street...I didn't know they were over there at first until an employee mentioned it to me in passing and asked me if I knew what was going on...I told him I would find out and walked over to the office there and spoke to the plant manager, he said one of their employees just dropped unconscious whilst operating some equipment and an AED had to be used, the guy is young too, mid thirties...They are testing him for covid-19, if that guy tests positive that would be the second person too close for comfort, I'm getting tested for covid-19, probably tomorrow...I just checked and my insurance waives all preconditions and waives prior doctor approval if I want to get tested, and covers the cost 100%...There's an urgent care clinic a few miles towards town that I'll go to, if nothing else, this will be some peace of mind, even if short lived...

What's an AED? Maybe they rigged the tests to look from something other that CV, like maybe a genetic marker. If they offer you the flu shot I would refuse. If you ask, they can't vouch for what's in them or provide a detailed breakdown.

I was trained on using these devices as part of a CPR training but they are very easy to use...

What is AED? | Learn What an AED Is | Red Cross
An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

My orders were to take it easy for a couple of weeks with no heavy lifting. The catheter comes out in a week and hopefully I will be back to square one, urology speaking.

I learned that there are two flu shots. One is for people 65 and younger and then the 65 and older crowd. A friend of ours had the 65 and older shot. He ended up unable to walk for six months. There were some other complications as well. Needless to say, he won’t be taking flu shots ever again. There is some difference between the two and I was told to stick with the normal 65 and younger shot if you must get one. Everything is a crap shoot it seems these days.

I had my Corona virus test this past Thursday. This was for my prostate procedure yesterday. I was told if you weren’t contacted you tested negative and everything was okay. The test I took was five minutes in length. They push a swap deep into your nostril. It was very uncomfortable. They didn’t bother taking your temperature which was strange because every other doctor’s office I go to checks your temp.

The bizarre part was the operating waiting room. With all the various people there, there was no way to distance yourself by six feet. Everyone was issued a hospital grade face mask. They don’t like those cheap blue Chinese masks most people seem to be wearing. There were a few staff in the pre-op room that had their masks pulled down. Go figure. They certainly are a pain in the ass to wear long term.
