Bizarre Reality Shifts - The Mandela Effect

Beam me up, Scotty

The most famous Star Trek catchphrase
MMDE: Kirk said "Beam me up, Scotty"

Current: Kirk never said "Beam me up, Scotty"

Did Kirk ever actually say "Beam me up, Scotty"?

Sometimes, the Mass Memory Discrepancy Effect works in "reverse", whereby most people are aware something is well known for not happening, yet many claim it actually did.

There is no record of Kirk ever actually saying "Beam me up, Scotty", although many parodies and anecdotes exist which only serve to ingrain this meme further into popular culture - even non-fans know this phrase.

It seems this one is illogical.

And we all know who we should consult about that ;-)

The phrase even has its own Wikipedia page:

Though it has become irrevocably associated with the series and films, the exact phrase was never actually spoken in any Star Trek television episode or film. Despite this, the quote has become a phrase of its own over time. It can be used to describe one's desire to be elsewhere, technology such as teleportation, slang for certain drugs, or as a phrase to show appreciation and association with the television show.
Scotty gets the last word
It's rather fitting that James Doohan, the actor who played Scotty, used the phrase as the title of his autobiography.

Was Abe's fist always clenched?

The iconic Lincoln Memorial is instantly recognized the world over. Was Abe resting his left hand over the arm of his chair, or clenching his fist? Some claim it was just like his right hand, resting over the end, and say a clenched fist this way doesn't fit with the feel for how a statue of Lincoln would have been designed. Some references exist, such as drawings etc, which show both hands in the same pose.

Dunno about that. But when I was in DC a few years ago I saw casts of Abe's face and hands and am wondering if this tidbit is somehow mixed in causing confusion.

When I stood there looking at them and then looking at his famous suit and stovepipe hat no kidding, it looked like I could just step right into it. I bet that might cause a stir - bet I'd make new friends real quick. Hands look like a pretty good match too. I guess I could play his stunt double.

Found this at random. Reality shift artifact? He wasn't a vampire hunter, he was after ghosts

Casts of Abraham Lincoln's Face and Hands

Description
Chicago artist Leonard Volk produced this plaster life mask of Abraham Lincoln in April 1860. Volk made the casts of Lincoln’s hands on May 20, two days after the Republican Party nominated him for the presidency. Lincoln’s right hand was still swollen from shaking hands with supporters. To steady his hand in the mold, Lincoln went out to the woodshed and cut off a piece of broom handle. Volk later placed the piece of handle in the cast displayed here.
In 1886 Volk’s son sold the casts of Lincoln’s face and hands to a group that proposed having the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens make a limited set of replicas.
In 1888 the 33 supporters of this project presented Volk’s personal copies of the life mask and hands, along with bronze replicas produced by Saint-Gaudens, to the U.S. government for preservation. The donation was made on the condition that “the original plaster casts should never be tampered with.” Any future casts could only be made from the bronze replicas.

The astronauts are all still alive?

1984 or 1986

Current: 1986

Some people remember the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster occurring some time before 1986 - are they experiencing the Mass Memory Discrepancy Effect? Even weirder are the reports the astronauts are still alive.

Many of those who remember it exploding earlier think it happened in 1984. NBC even ran a piece back in 2011 about people misremembering the date. The cause was determined to be a seal which wasn't tested for cold winter temperatures, but even that's being questioned because the ones who remember it as 1984 also remember it being in the summer.

Markers

This Mandela Effect is one where people tend to use "markers" as reference poi nt. For example, going to see the movieTop Gun at the same time as they heard about it, graduating, leaving home etc.

Crew still alive

The reports of the crew still being alive never seem to go away either.

There was a magazine article or something about the phrase, long before any of this Mandela stuff. It's not complicated. Kirk was always telling Scotty (or just the Enterprise) to beam him up, or something like "Four to beam up," and so on, but that stuff doesn't fit on bumper stickers or in casual conversation nearly as well as the well known phrase. Popular culture is full of such adaptations. I think it was in the 70s when I first saw a bumper sticker that read, "Beam me up Scotty. There is no intelligent life down here." Bumper stickers often employ the same sort of "shorthand" as newspaper headlines, for the same reason. Space is sharply limited, and some creativity goes a long way in communicating ideas in such constraints.

My favorite Trek themed bumper sticker is the one from the Y2K elections:

I don't know if this is a Mandela Effect example. I was rereading Wingmakers interview two and the acronym OLIN as I remember it from a decade ago was One Language Integrated Network. Now it's One Language Intelligent Network.
WingMakersBlogEng: OLIN Technology

Olin is used as either a surname and a given name, in Swedish it means to inherit, it's also a noun: 'a conceptual depiction of movement as two intertwining bands of color'...

I found another anomaly in the interviews. The race called the Corteum will place a UFO on a planet as a method of making first contact then call the authorities. A decade ago when I read them I recall the anonymous person contacted the CIA twice. In the resent version a recreational scuba diver found the UFO in 60 feet of water off the coast of Florida in 1940. It stated he/it called the Navy three times.

Mysterious Stranger With Knowledge of The Future Saves Man’s Life With a Shoulder Tap

“Guardian angel” stories are a dime a dozen. Many people have tales of strangers appearing seemingly out of nowhere and saving them from impending doom. But has one ever been caught on film before? A clip of CCTV footage from Turkey has emerged that shows a man’s life seemingly saved by a mysterious stranger with knowledge of the future.

The incident occurred one evening in Adana, Turkey, where shopkeeper Serdar Binici’yi was stacking goods outside his storefront. Binici’yi says he heard someone call out and felt a sudden tap on his shoulder and turned around towards the street. A moment later, a truck with a loose rear gate came around the corner, and the gate swung open right through the space where Serdar Binici’yi’s head was only seconds before.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, and you can watch the video here:

The mysterious stranger is already walking toward Binci’yi when the truck stars to turn the corner. He walks past Binci’yi and quickly taps him on the shoulder before continuing to calmly walk away. Binci’yi turns around with just enough time to jump backwards as the gate flies towards him. The timing of the incident is uncanny. Had the shoulder tap happened a second later it’s doubtful Serdar Binci’yi would have had time to react.

Some comments on the video have disagreed with saying that a life was saved. But a big metal gate swinging at that speed at perfect head-level can easily end someone. It’s certainly possible the impact wouldn’t have been fatal, but it’s, at the very least, one of those things you’d prefer doesn’t get answered.

After the truck passes by, Serdar looks around with a face that is genuinely confused. The stranger has already passed and a different man is putting the would-be killer gate back to where it belongs. It doesn’t seem like the stranger ever explained himself or had any other contact with Binci’yi after the incident.

So who was this mysterious shoulder-tapping stranger? Was he some sort of guardian angel? A wizard? An employee of the truck company that knew they cut corners on the gates? It’s probably just due to the low resolution of the video, but doesn’t the stranger have a bit of resemblance to Serdar Binci’yi himself? Did this shopkeeper have a run-in with himself from the future, or an alternate universe? Unless it hits the news in a few years that a market manager from Adana,Turkey invented the first time machine, I don’t think we’ll ever find out.

Alternate explanation: The stranger’s just a jerk just doing that supremely annoying prank where you tap someone on the wrong shoulder and confuse them. Then chance turned him into an angel.

The shadow

Rikki and I were dropping the twins off when we all clearly heard that queen Elizabeth II will step down on April 21st. Charles will be regent. A retirement of sorts. After that nothing.
No news of this at all anywhere.
We ask did any one else hear this?
Are we going crazy? All 4 of us heard it..

This is just a claim by a Royal insider. Sheer speculation by a disloyal Royal staff member how dare they rat on the Queen. As if the Queen is going to tell them what she is doing , shame shame on that household stoolie . The Queen should chop off their head and impale it on the castle spigots. I remember reading Queen Elizabeth stated the only one who will remove her from her throne is God. I am not sure if everyone is ready for King Charles 111 and his floosie rottweiler wife.

Odd that CNN would report the ranting of a disloyal house maid as fact. I not found a single word on this. It seemed strange that I hear a report on the queen steps down then nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just flat out wierd.

While probably not ever completely real in the past, the era of careful, vetted journalism and news reporting is largely gone. The need to get the scoop is just too pressing.
