What are your thoughts on tarot card reading?...

Do you have much experience with tarot?...

I have my own cards and a book I've put together myself years ago through research and experience...I've given other people readings before and have done readings for myself in the past...I tend to focus on the aspects of the cards that seem most applicable individually and combined...

David Wilcock mentioned the Ra Material numerous times in his book 'The Ascension Mysteries'. Because of that I went through the 174 video series on YT rather than buying the five or six books. One of the most interesting things was Ra claiming he created the concept of the Tarot on Venus while he was still in third density some two to three billion years ago. It's suggested that they were the Ancient Builder Race.

Earlier I laid out some cards and wrote down a reading from them for a local friend...Quite interesting reveal, the answer to his question was quite obvious once I saw all the cards...He is at a crossroads and wants to be romantically involved with someone but there's red flags he cannot see but feel...These cards tell me if he gets involved with her it will be heaven, it will be spectacular, but, it will financially ruin him in the end if he isn't careful...This does not suggest that he not get involved with her, on the contrary, this would suggest to him to be aware there may be financial problems if he isn't wise financially and don't allow any distractions keep him from make sound financial decisions if he pursued this path...

That's quite a nice deck, Nivek. I had several tarot decks a long time ago, but gave them away the last time I moved. At one time, I used runes as well, but I like tarot.

I've made one deck (based on classical art), but the interpretations are personal rather than typical Rider-Waite. I've toyed with the idea of making another deck, but actually my classical art deck has served me pretty well.

My philosophy of tarot is that tarot is what people used before therapists. People would have a problem and go to a tarot-reader for advice. The tarot reader would turn over cards, give some general descriptions of meanings, and ask the individual to personalize the interpretation to their situation. It was a way, I think, of allowing people subconsciously to get some perspective on their problems and look at them in a different way.

It has a kind of practicality not unlike scapulimancy. In scapulimancy, ancient hunters would take the shoulder blade bone (scapula) of an animal and hold it over the fire until it cracked, and then follow the cracks on their next hunt.

What it did is it prevented them from developing a pattern. If they had hunted in an organized pattern, animals would have quickly adapted to avoid them. scapulimancy kept it completely random.

Below is a pic of the set I use, I've had this one for about 10 years I think...Its still in fairly new in condition because I don't use it a lot, maybe 8 times a year lately lol...Two people I know will randomly call me up and want to stop by for a reading...I've watched people use runes before, its quite interesting but I haven't used them myself, I do like tarot though...

That's a good philosophy, I like that and agree, it helps some people get a better perspective of the problem or situation they are inquiring about, see it in a different light to make good decision that's in their best interest and those around them...

I looked that up and did some reading, heard the word before but never looked into it, scapulimancy is interesting, I read that Greek soldiers would do this the night before a big battle, a clear scapula was a good omen to them...

It seems like Tarot cards don't invite evil on a massive scale like Ouija boards do, so I 'spose that is one thing going for them!

I used my tarot cards at art school once. Not long ago. We were going to make three pizza together in the evening before watching lotr.
I wanted to know what pizza was finished first. The vegetarian - the one with hardly anything or the mix.

The tarot prediction was correct! Hurray! One with much chaos had to be the mixed. The balance was vegetarian since it was split pizza with desired mix. And the plain i do not remember but something. ( The spirit is a joke and not a theory, but tarot story true. ) Could be spirits watching the prediction and blew som extra flames on the pizza to make it correct order.

I was given a tarot card reading last night, seven cards which the dealer interpreted with impressive accuracy...Compromises I've made he pointed out first thing and postponing some things which I also knew I was doing and things I've been shielding within, but he tied it all together in such a way that I see it in a different light...It was almost like telling me what I already knew but needed to hear again out loud and with the visuals and implications of the cards, it made an impression...

I wish i could get another one done, my aunt use to do them and was pretty good, till she did mine once in my teens. she never done one after that. it scared her pretty bad, with the cards that come up, she hade redone them three times, they all come up the same in a way and the devil with other certain cards in the same spot. i was never told what it meant. i asked my mom awhile back and all she said it all came true. something else odd thats happen to me was at a palmistry, had my palm read, he was very interested in my lines and took pics of them and stuff, he never seen lines in such a way as mine and there meaning i guess he didnt even know. i was like ok

Thank you for sharing. :) Nice stories about tarot reading from both of you. I do not believe in tarot reading much - but I must admit it is very strange, cause I use my tarot card to practice psychic ability. Like Zener card. No matter how much I shuffle the cards in my hand or on the table, they seem to repeat themselves. It is like the same cards come up each time. I do not know why. This makes me suspicious. Long time ago I watched a youtube film about a lady who become tarot card reader by an coincident. She bought tarot cards for fun and was reading for her friends for fun. She seemed to have a natural talent and learned she could actually do it as a pro. But I think she told that it was because she was good at reading people and the tarot was just a tool for reading people. She could perfectly fine read people without the tarot cards. I tried to find the youtube film last evening, but could not. Do not want to spend time on it, but it is probably still there. Still I am suspicious when the same cards come up over and over again. Sometimes I wonder if I should start study tarot too, but I only use them like Zener or for joking. It is better to use tarot card than Zener card because it is inspiring pictures.
Remember long time ago that a lady read tarot for me for free. I think she just wanted to do it. She told me " Do not live by the ocean " and I lived by the ocean at that time. She is right. Every time I have lived by the ocean the depression takes it hand on me. And now I live with forest and lake and have never been happier.
I read a person once for fun when we were on a cafeteria. He told everything was correct. But I read him as a person and not the tarot card. Except that the card showed disks, and that was easy to interpret on him.

Tarot is mystical :)

I occasionally look for new decks
I see them as the same thing as remote viewing, only the other way around,
you often know the question, and the cards are the answers,
in remote viewing you don't know the target or question, and then you pull out the answers
although I find it works just as well when I choose cards and I never find out the question either, but someone has to have the question somewhere for it to work.
it is fundamentally a signal to noise issue. not knowing half of what is going on seems to get rid of most the noise.
I have thought about making cards up with various engineering topics. (example: standard cards are not good for figuring out why your car will not start)
that way I can try to reverse engineer or fix things with them.
my real question is how do I get the back of the cards to all look the same so I can't see what they are while choosing, so I finally settled on business cards. I have lots of them from a former work place that are all blank on the back.

As Above So Below
Why did I choose the Tarot?
By Kathleen Meadows

Upon reflection, I don't believe I chose the Tarot. I think it chose me. It is like that with divination tools, spirit guides and connecting to spirit in general. Your connect will be presented to you in an unmistakably profound manner. Resisting would be futile because it/ and or they, will simply keep appearing.

I was introduced to the Tarot deck by a man who became my first serious love and live-in for a few years in my early twenties. The year was 1974. The Tarot in those days, was regarded by many to be on par with a Ouija Board. Dark, unpredictable and possibly, according to some, an instrument of the DEVIL. Most shunned it out of fear.

There were only 2 Tarot decks for sale in the city of Toronto and they were tucked away in a rare and unusual bookshop downtown, close to U of T. I've always been attracted to places, people, businesses and things that are of questionable repute: The strange, extraordinary, mysterious, unpredictable. Put a sign, "Beware!" on it and I'm first in line. A Scorpio. 'nuf said.

By the time I was introduced to the Tarot by this man of the world, I already knew I was psychic and had had many enlivening experiences with it. I used to play psychic games with my bestie at 14 years old. In Grade 10 the following year, I presented psychic ability as a topic in a physics class presentation which was enthusiastically received!

When this fellow pulled out a deck of cards to do a "read" for us, I was all in. That first Tarot reading was mind-boggling enough to motivate me to get my own deck and begin a serious daily study. A journey that I continue to pursue 46 years later. I'm still waiting on a new Tarot book to arrive which discusses the new deck I have on my table. Studying the Tarot is never a fait accompli.

All Divination Systems Tell Us Something

The quality of that something however, depends on the values supported in that system. The Tarot deck offers a profound philosophy which in essence is an outline of the human consciousness evolving. Shuffling the cards brings these profound values (archetypal Tinkertoys) into play with each other in a random form that tells us a story. The cards tell a collective story of consciousness evolution but in the context of a reading they tell us YOUR personal spiritual story.

The Tarot nudges us in directions that encourage optimism, spirituality and a belief in the necessity and value of change. Such a vital guide for us all to have since generally people distrust and fear change.

We structure space, time, and nature from a strong ego position in our Western Culture. We fool ourselves into believing we control everything. Nothing will ever change. Once we get everything set in place, we're good for the long haul, or so we desperately hope. When that fails and our ordered existence slips out of sync again, we panic. "The fates are against us!", we lament.

We know in our hearts and from our experience that nothing ever stays the same but like a default position, we return to it immediately following any change or crisis. In the real world we have absolutely no control over the forces of nature which change all the time. Natural disasters and wars especially triggered masses to seek the guidance of an oracle.

Kings, Queens and other leaders have consulted oracles for millennia (always secretly!) to get a sense of where the spirits are carrying the tribe. Oracles have played a pivotal role in our evolution yet are rarely acknowledged or credited for it.

A good Tarot reader combines a sensitivity to the pictures on the cards, to the person sitting there nervously and excitedly staring at the cards and most significantly, to their inner voice/intuition. An effective reader does not repeat traditional fixed meanings, but rather they will find new meanings and interpretations. Part of a reader's training lies simply in studying the cards while another part lies in gaining a personal sense of them through practice, meditation and creative work. It takes years of dedicated study and practice to become an aficionado reader.

What about Free Will?

How does free will come into play with respect to a reading when its central purpose is to determine a destiny?

We possess free will to the extent we are conscious. Our natural gifts, limitations, social conditioning and life experience construct our world view. People who have gone for analysis or psychoanalysis with the intent to become more conscious, are enabled to act more from free will than someone who remains unconscious of their primary feelings, motivations and aversions. Most of our belief systems, as an example, are quite unconscious. Habits, patterns, partnerships, work and self-image are a few examples.

Our destiny is a cosmic dance between opportunity and ourselves; both conscious and unconscious selves.

In summary, we do possess free will but the degree to which we are able to effect it to serve the greater good, is dependent on to what extent we are conscious. Tarot readings can also be helpful in determining and revealing these much to most client's surprise! Whether your destiny is being skewed by the lack of outer options or by your own unconscious sabotage, the Tarot is a helpful tool in revealing both sides of the coin. With greater inner awareness, encouragement and support all of us are better equipped to make decisions that are wiser and more beneficial.

As above, so bellow
I once, just for fun, took up a couple of ladies for a tarrot reading. When it came to my turn, tarrot reader got all my current and future predictions wrong, but he was laser sharp when she was predicting about a friend of mine who wasn't present. Practically, as if I was a medium through which she predicted for a person who wasn't even there. It bemused me to no end :)

Obviously, I always wondered what would happen if I went back for another go?

I'd give it a shot but wouldn't know where to start around here.

I remember a family friend who used to read palms and Tarot. She told me I would travel extensively, make a lot of money and write a lot. Yeah, well. Kind of like an evil genie granting your wish, the Devil's in the details. And in the planchette - we played with a Ouija board quite a bit too.
