Egyptians were ordinary people as well they were preserved in sand albeit not a freak of nature.

If you had the cash you could indulge in mummification but sadly if you were cash strapped then a plain old sand burial would do. It wasn't just for the Royals and hangeroners , anyone with some valid folding stuff could have it done.
