The quake struck just hours after they had emergency earthquake drills. It happened on the 32nd anniversary of an 8.0 that hit Mexico City on September 19, 1985.

The depth of the quake was 32 miles.
7.1 magnitude quake kills 44 as buildings collapse in Mexico

The U.S. Geological Survey calculated its magnitude at 7.1 and said it was centered near the Puebla state town of Raboso, about 76 miles (123 kilometers) southeast of Mexico City.

Its a good thing its center wasn't closer. If only 44 are dead I commend Mexico's earthquake codes.

It's too early to get an accurate count of the fatalities. The 1985 Mexico City quake killed around 5,000 people.

I remember the 1985 earthquake. They found a guy buried under a building still alive about a week after the quake. He survived by drinking he own urine. If you ever think you're having a lousy week...

The death is still fairly low......300 or so in a city of 11 million......I commend their earthquake codes.....
