I’m reading The Conquering Tide: War in the Pacific Islands, 1942-1944 by Ian Toll and that has absolutely nothing to do with the paranormal. In early ’42 about the only immediate advantage we had was cryptanalysis; code breaking. This book explains how some very clever and dedicated people in Hawaii were deciphering the Japanese naval code JN-25. Anecdotally and maybe not surprisingly, musicians made excellent analysts in an era in which ‘computing’ meant house sized card punch machines. Human talent and organic computing power was necessary.
I was going to quote two particular pages but figured what the hell, just post them. The reason I am doing this is of paranormal bent. I hesitate to use the word ‘spiritual’ and would definitely not use the word ‘religious.’ I have always felt that sometimes we get a slight peek Beyond the Veil and I’m not really sure what that means or how to quantify it. A synchronicity, some odd premonition, a curious set of circumstances that give my brain a tickle and makes me think that there is something going on just out of reach.
When I started reading about traffic analysis and cryptanalysis – two related but separate things – I saw some parallels to what I have been thinking. We know for a fact in this historical case that there was a real stream of coded information to be examined and that the more of it we had the more of it we could read. And at its best we weren’t reading it word for word, and at best there was still a formidable language barrier that left interpretation highly subjective, but reading enough to make an educated guess. I am trying liken that to personal experiences and mediumship. I believe there are misguided people prone to belief, I know there are obvious charlatans and hoaxers, but I also believe that if we rendered the fat there are a number of people who have had experiences which are difficult to explain yet don't generally hold up to objective scrutiny. In an odd way maybe we throw children with detailed past life experiences into the mix. The analogy to the code breakers is that maybe there is some extremely obscure stream of information that some of us occasionally tap – which maybe does nothing other than to make you aware of its existence, which is about where I am right now. Maybe there are those like musicians or people who can devote the just the right resources to occasionally glean something a little more substantial from the mix, like Rochefort and Holmes.
I've recently heard a Radio Misterioso episode about retrocausality and in layman's terms, maybe we're just getting snippets of information from ourselves at a different point in time. Frankly, there are too many people using theoretical physics as a wand to wave at whatever theory they happen to subscribe to and I don't want to be one of them. physics might be the Key to the Universe but overall it bores the living crap out of me. I mention this to suggest that there might be an esoteric but perfectly natural explanation for the occasional 'peek.'
I guess this is just rambling but it’s a thought I have been trying to express for a while.
