Not the most scholarly reference but the Post usually cuts right to it on the cover. Bye bye dog shooter. I wonder if she'll put on a huge pair of 'unemployed' or 'public humiliation' earrings.

Notice we haven't heard a peep out of Greg Bovino? After being 'reassigned' to nowhere following his over the top behavior in Minneapolis apparently he recently made some ill considered anti semitic remarks which triggered an internal investigation at DHS. He's probably the next one to get canned.

MS NOW host sounds alarm on Newsom for 2028, says he has 'Hillary Clinton problem'

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has a "Hillary Clinton problem," MS NOW host Chris Hayes said in an interview published Thursday, as he discussed potential 2028 candidates with The New York Times' Ross Douthat.

"I think Newsom has the Hillary Clinton problem, which is that Hillary Clinton was perceived outside of the Democratic Party and Democratic coalition as the ultimate lib, the libiest lib who ever lived, and was never actually like that much of a lib," Hayes told Douthat during his "Interesting Times" podcast. "It was like — and also had a record that was fairly centrist, particularly as a U.S. senator."

"And that’s like the worst uncanny valley for a Democratic politician to be in, where the base doesn’t trust you because you don’t have a kind of organic relationship with the left parts of the party. And then the swing voter just thinks like, that’s a lib," he added.

Newsom is considered a potential 2028 presidential candidate for Democrats. However, he has not officially declared his intention to run.

Hayes said Democrats needed someone who had an authentic relationship with the party's left-wing base, but also "communicates broadly" and is viewed as nonpartisan. "I just think right now — and this could change — Newsom has the opposite set of factors. He has made very clear attempts to show that he’s bipartisan, centrist, independent," he said. Hayes and Douthat suggested he made moves toward the center and the right through "substantive things he's done," citing the billionaire tax and trans policy. "But I haven’t seen evidence that that comes through. I just think there’s a reputational thing that’s very problematic. Also, the governor of California is a tough place to get the next Democratic nominee from," he added.

Douthat argued that Newsom has not run a race in which he needed to win over many centrist or center-right voters. However, he said one of Newsom's strengths was that he can get attention. Hayes agreed and noted how President Donald Trump has done an effective job at it throughout his political career. "The ideal situation you want, I think, if you’re designing this in a lab, is someone that has both a proven ability to speak to swing voters, the voters you need, and is also really good at attention," Hayes said. "And the nightmare scenario in a Democratic primary is someone who’s bad at the former and good at the latter."

Ruff and tumble: Great Pyrenees wins Minnesota town's mayoral race in crowded field

While the eyes of the political world focus on another Minnesota politician, the furry mayor of Cormorant, Khaleesi Sherbrooke, is about to embark on her inaugural term as the town's top rep.

Aug. 17, 2024, 5:30 a.m. ET

Khaleesi Sherbrooke, 3, was elected Mayor of Cormorant Village in a landslide getting 103,000 votes.

When a small town in Minnesota set out elect a mayor a little less than 10 years ago, no one would have thought that it would be the beginning of a new tradition.
"We've never had a mayor before," Tammy Odegaard, Chairperson of Cormorant Daze, an annual summer festival, told USA TODAY this week. "In 2015 we decided, hey, let's get a mayor."

Cormorant's governing board then rolled out a plan where people could vote for $1, which would help raise funds for the town's summertime festival Cormorant Daze.
"But then out of the blue, they all elected a dog, a neighborhood dog that everybody loved so much," Odegaard said, adding that the event marked the start of a new tradition for the town.

Duke, a Great Pyrenees, was elected as Mayor of Cormorant in 2015 and remained mayor, getting re-elected every time, until he retired in June 2018. He later passed away in February 2019.

After his death, the tradition fizzled out and then COVID hit so the event was never held, Odegaard said.

Then came 2024. Election year.

"This year, with the national election going on, everybody has politics at the top of their mind, Odegaard said. "So, we decided let's try it again."
Nominations for the Cormorant Animal Mayor Election 2024 were accepted from Memorial Day to the Fourth of July and the top three candidates were announced by the Cormorant Daze Committee on July 8, according to a flyer posted on Cormorant Township's website. Candidates included:
  • Khaleesi Sherbrooke, a Great Pyrenees
  • Ollie Einerson, an 8-month-old Golden Retriever and English Cream Golden Retriever mix
  • Theodore H. Rosten, a 3-year-old Bassett Hound
  • Ken Mathees, a 29-year-old local entrepreneur and integral member of YouTube channel "CboysTV."
Voting was conducted between July 15 and Aug. 5.
Khaleesi Sherbrooke, named after Queen Khaleesi in Game of Thrones, is about three years old, said Odegaard and weighs 140 pounds.

Khaleesi, whose human family extensively campaigned for her, Odegaard said, won by a landslide securing 103,000 votes.
The "election" took place on social media and was open for everyone who wanted to cast their vote, which explains how Khaleesi was able to get so many votes, considering Cormorant Township, part of Becker County, has a population of only 1,407, as per World Population Review.

Khaleesi, named after one of the main characters in the Emmy-award winning "Game of Thrones," is about 3 years old, said Odegaard and weighs 140 pounds. She's a fairly new resident of the township and moved in spring of this year, Odegaard said, after her owners David and Julie Sherbrooke brought her to Minnesota from a wind farm in Idaho.

Odegaard said Khaleesi's popularity and friendliness, after spending a lot of time with workers at an Idaho construction site, played a crucial role in helping her sweep the election.
Khaleesi Sherbrooke, Mayor of Cormorant Village in Minnesota.

Khaleesi, who will be the town's second mayor and the first ever female mayor, will be sworn in as mayor on Saturday during the 13th Annual Cormorant Daze Festival.
Her main responsibilities would include representing the town at event and participating in events such as parades.
Like Duke, Khaleesi, will also participate in a lot of fundraising events for the local humane society.

Donald Trump set to feature on 24-carat gold coin to celebrate 250 years of independence from Britain

Fists clenched and face filled with steely determination - this is how Donald Trump wants to go down in American history. It may look like a solid gold example of a runaway ego, but this soon-to-be minted coin is intended to celebrate his nation's 250th year of independence from Britain.

And it is hardly surprising that when Chamberlain Harris, a White House aide, was asked how large the coin should be she replied: 'The larger the better'. It is expected to be 3in in diameter (7.6 cm) and be cast in 24-carat gold, featuring the US President's image.

Commissioned by a federal arts panel made up of members appointed by Mr Trump, it forms part of a series of coins the US Mint is planning to produce to mark America's anniversary. It also adds to a growing list of efforts by Mr Trump and his allies to stamp the President's name on buildings, government programmes, Navy warships, and US currency since his second White House term began in January 2025.

The US Mint - which is responsible for producing the nation's coinage - will now finalise the coin's dimensions, with the design already approved by Mr Trump himself. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is then expected to give the order for the coin to be minted.

The design will portray a stern-looking Mr Trump leaning over his desk and looking ahead, based on a photograph displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. Needless to say many Democrat Senators are less than impressed. 'Monarchs and dictators put their faces on coins, not leaders of a democracy,' said Senator Jeff Merkley. 'Trump's administration moving to put his face on a commemorative coin is his latest effort to distort the meaning of America's 250th birthday.'

Donald Scarinci, a member of the bipartisan Citizens Advisory Committee - a separate federal panel that refused to consider the gold coin proposal last month - noted this is not the first time a sitting president has been on a commemorative coin.

In 1926 - 150 years after the 1776 Declaration of Independence - an image of the then-president Calvin Coolidge, a Republican, was printed on a commemorative coin.

Notably his profile was overlaid with an image of George Washington. Mr Scarinci pointed out that Mr Trump's coin will differ in size and will feature the US President alone.

Mr Trump has also proposed a $1 coin bearing his image which would go into circulation this year. However Mr Scarinci said the $1 coin would clearly breach a law prohibiting the image of a sitting or former president appearing on a dollar coin until three years after their death. There may be, nevertheless, a potential loophole. Unlike the dollar coin, which would be in circulation, the gold coin would remain a collector's item.

Mr Scarinci said under law both his panel and the Commission of Fine Arts are meant to approve the coin. He added: 'But we still fully expect them to plough ahead and mint both coins.'

This was two days ago. The only reason any police were even present was because two detectives were earning OT for being there - a program the weakling commie mayor is eliminating.

My wife will be on that very platform this morning at about the same time
, it could easily have been her as she does this frequently. The platforms under GCT were never of any particular concern to me (especially at 10am) as long as you practice common sense, you just stay alert and never go near the edge of the platform and do not use your phone. I've actually spent the night in GCT unavoidably for lack of a train a few times and it was safe to do so ten years ago, you could use the bathrooms which were reasonably clean and there was always a cop around. Not now and I don't think the terminal is open overnight anymore.

We have to GTFO of here.

Financier shocks CNN panel by sharing shock conspiracy theory about Pope Leo and Obama

A financier shocked a CNN panel with an alleged conspiracy by Pope Leo XIV and Barack Obama to bring down President Donald Trump.

Point Bridge Capital CEO Hal Lambert peddled the Chicago-centric conspiracy during his Monday appearance on the NewsNight with Abby Phillip program.

The MAGA-supporting executive accused Leo, the former president and CNN Chief Political Analyst David Axelrod, who previously served on Obama's White House staff, of trying to take down the Republican Party ahead of the midterm election.

'This is 100 percent political, ok? This is all about trying to hurt President Trump's Catholic vote during the midterms and Republicans in the midterms,' Lambert said.

'If you look at what - play out the dots here… David Axelrod goes and visits Pope Leo last week. They're talking about Obama going to visit Pope Leo.'

Lambert, citing how Leo is also a Chicago-native, continued: 'All of a sudden, now, Pope Leo is out attacking Trump and the policies of the United States and Israel…

'You have three cardinals come out today, attacking the immigration policy. This is all about trying to get the Catholic vote against Trump.'

Phillip interrupted Lambert to criticize his argument, pointing out that it had a 'lot of flaws'.

But the financier was relentless, telling her: 'There's no flaws. Axelrod is the chief strategist for Obama. The pope is saying he's not political. Why is he meeting with the chief strategist for both Obama's campaigns and in the White House?'

Immigration policy from a man who cares for the poor while surrounded by vast wealth and privilege. Thanks for the lecture about immigration tolerance from a place with huge walls and Swiss Guards to keep the riffraff out. I suggest a better use of his time would be to atone for all the child touching that has cost them millions upon millions of dollars.

Apologies to pious Catholics out there but that's how I was raised and fortunately cured myself of it.

A half mile down the road is a tract of land the Church sold to raise money for all the sexual assault penalties. They'd held it for maybe 100 years and now a developer has destroyed a beautiful area and is putting up high end McMansions. Fortunately I can't see it from here. Why anybody builds a $1M+ dollar 4000+ sq.ft homes in a manufactured neighborhood where your neighbor's house is only a few feet away is beyond me.

The shadow

The shadow knows!
I hear people trying to defend this by saying Donald Trump did not know how people would take it, or that maybe he thought he was being portrayed as a doctor. I do not believe that for one second. Donald Trump is not a stupid man. He is strategic, calculated, and very aware of imagery, attention, and public reaction. There is no way he looked at that picture and did not understand the spiritual message it was sending. He knew exactly what he was doing.

At no point do I believe he really thought his supporters, especially the Christian community, were going to be okay with this. This was not an innocent mistake. This was not just a joke. This image was framed like a savior, a healer, almost a messianic figure. And when you combine that with him talking about Iran and saying, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” both things point to the same dangerous mindset: a man playing God.

I can support conservative policies without worshiping a political figure. I can agree with border security, protecting children, defending women’s spaces, and rejecting radical ideology without excusing blasphemy, arrogance, and narcissism.

The ones who are okay with this do not worship Jesus Christ. They worship Donald Trump. And the truth is, not everyone who calls themselves a Christian is actually following Christ. Jesus said it clearly in Matthew 7:21-23: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven… And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

This is not harmless. This is not funny. This is a man crossing spiritual and moral lines, and anyone calling themselves a Christian should be able to see that.

Minnesota Dems unite to block Walz, Ellison impeachment push, sparking online outrage

Conservatives on social media erupted with outrage Thursday after Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota united to block a Republican effort to investigate further and impeach Gov. Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison.

A resolution taken up by the Minnesota House Rules and Legislative Administration Committee to launch an impeachment investigation and allow the committee to hold hearings, issue subpoenas and further investigate the massive fraud scandal was blocked after all eight Democrats on the committee voted against it, Fox 9 Minneapolis reported.

The lawmakers deadlocked 8-8 on a straight party-line vote.

"This is a fundamentally unserious proposal by a fundamentally unserious party who isn't interested in governing," Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) Rep. Michael Howard said about the move.

"Gas prices are rising because of Trump's illegal war in Iran. Health care, housing and childcare costs are spiking. We have hospitals closing, yet this is what we're going to do today? A bill that's absolutely going nowhere, dead on arrival."

"Despite years of whistleblower reports, dozens of hearings & local news stories, & court convictions, Democrats CONTINUE to block any investigation of Tim Walz," Minnesota House Fraud Committee Chair Rep. Kristin Robbins, R-Minn., who is running for governor, posted on X.

"They protect each other to protect their political base. @amyklobuchar is just part of the protection racket."

"Minnesotans lost $9B in taxpayer dollars to just 14 Medicaid programs under Tim Walz’s administration," Townhall columnist Dustin Grage posted on X. "Today, every single Democrat in Rules Committee voted to block an investigation into that fraud. Absolutely disgusting."
