Alec Baldwin spotted ‘in tears’ after 'Rust' movie set shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 wounded: report

Baldwin, 63, had reportedly fired what was described as a "prop firearm" at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, fatally wounding cinematographer Halnya Hutchins, 42, and wounding director Joel Souza, 48, the Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper reported.

Baldwin was questioned by investigators following the incident, sources told the newspaper. But no charges were filed in connection with the case, which remained under investigation, Juan Rios, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said in a statement, according to the New Mexican.

Why were they using loaded weapons?...

The shadow

The shadow knows!
Brandon Lee
John Eric Hexum.
This is not new.
There should be strict rules on firearms in movies.

One point, it should not have been a loaded gun, second point, why was he pointing the gun at the cinematographer?...Was he playing around thinking it wasn't loaded and pointing the gun at people he shouldn't have?...

Possibly a POV shot where he's looking at the camera. The director of photography may have been right behind it. And the director, who was also hit, could have been right behind her.

There are plenty of witnesses; the actual details should emerge before long.

From helicopter crashes to deadly fires and the blank round that killed Brandon Lee: A look back at previous tragedies on Hollywood movie sets after Alec Baldwin's shooting accident

Behind the glamour, filming for Hollywood movies is notoriously dangerous, with plane crashes, explosions, falling structures and high speed chases all responsible for cutting short the lives of stunt doubles, actors and directors (pictured: a fire erupted during filming for Edward Norton's Motherless in Brooklyn in 2018, killing a firefighter, left; a stuntman was killed in an explosion beside a rubber boat for filming of The Expendables 2, 2012, top right; and Bruce Lee's son Brandon was shot and killed by an improperly cleared prop gun for the 1994 movie The Crow, bottom right. This was brought into sharp focus again on Thursday by the death of photography director Halyna Hutchins who was accidentally killed by Alec Baldwin with a prop gun on set in New Mexico. The circumstances of how the weapon fired a lethal projectile remain unclear, but blank rounds are known for being sealed with wadding to build up pressure which can lead to fatal injury due to the hot gasses and unburned powder expelled. Actor Jon-Erik Hexum died on the set of TV series Cover Up in 1984 when he accidentally shot himself while playing with a prop gun between takes, not realising it was still loaded with blanks. Wadding struck him in the temple, fracturing his skull and causing brain hemorrhaging which proved fatal

No doubt there’ll be endless people talking about blanks. They can still injure. Jon whathizname Hexum pushed the Darwin button and removed himself from the gene pool with a blank. But a LIVE round? Deliberate. Obvious when loaded, I mean Jesus it has a bullet and blanks don’t really. Wads, wax, not bullets. And no, you NEVER point any weapon at anybody. EVER. Apart from the weapon apparently nobody professional was around to explain that, p.o.v shot or not.

Alec Baldwin facing backlash for 2017 tweet questioning 'how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone'

(Excerpt)

Twitter users are now zeroing in on Baldwin's past social media activity and one glaring tweet he posted on Sept. 22, 2017 reads: "I wonder how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone..." The tweet also included a link to a Los Angeles Times article about a Huntington Beach police officer who was captured on video struggling with a suspect in a parking lot of a convenience store before shooting the man several times, killing him.

"this did not age well," one Twitter user wrote on the thread of Baldwin's tweet.

I did not like it when a gun was pointed at me about a year ago, my grandfather said something similar to what you said here...He said; 'never point a gun at anything unless you mean to fire it'...Blanks or loaded I still do not understand why Alec Baldwin would point the gun at the cinematographer...Even if by chance she was near the camera, why?...Set the camera up, everyone out of the way, fire the gun, then look at the film to see if the clip is good...No one should have been in front of that gun for any reason...If he was playing around and thought he was going to fire a blank then he must be charged for the crime of her death, I hope that is not the case...

Then on the flip side, how many westerns and war movies, crime and thriller movies are there with people pointing guns at one another?...How many times did John Wayne point and shoot a gun at someone in a movie?...

Problems on set just hours before the incident.

Here's an excerpt from that LA Times article, its possible there could be criminal charges against someone...Surely negligence can't be considered accidental...
There were two misfires on the prop gun on Saturday and one the previous week, the person said, adding “there was a serious lack of safety meetings on this set.”

I agree as tragic as it is this is a MAJOR breech of protocal. Somebody I think flubbed up big time to let this happen.

Anybody remember the Jon-Erik Hexum and Brandon Lee incidents??
