Alec Baldwin Accidentally Shoots and Kills Someone

Why exactly would he want to kill her? If true this sounds like something Detective Columbo would deal with. Dick van Dyke would guest star. Baldwin's plot would be revealed by 'just one more question .....'

Bad management starts at the top and I think Baldwin and whoever else had control over that set is culpable. This just smacks of complete arrogance while handling dangerous weapons. It's nobody's fault, the gun did it, yada yada. There were reports of labor disputes, last minute replacement scabs, you name it. Toxic. If you have to pick plain old stupidity vs conspiracy my $$ is on stupid

Alec Baldwin has other problems now...

...

Family of US Marine killed in Afghanistan files $25 million lawsuit against Alec Baldwin, claiming the actor accused them of being insurrectionists on Instagram

The family of a US Marine who was killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan over the summer has filed a $25 million defamation lawsuit against Alec Baldwin, saying the actor accused them on Instagram of being insurrectionists after he learned the Marine's sister was in Washington, DC, during the riot on January 6, 2021.

Relatives of Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, who was 20, said in the lawsuit that Baldwin's comments about the family on the social-media platform "were false, outrageous, defamatory, irresponsible, vindictive, and caused — and continue to cause — Plaintiffs severe emotional distress."

McCollum was among the 13 US service members killed in the attack at the Kabul airport on August 26 as troops withdrew from Afghanistan.

The lawsuit, filed on Monday in the US District Court for the District of Wyoming by McCollum's two sisters, Roice and Cheyenne McCollum, and his widow, Jiennah McCollum, alleged Baldwin defamed the family to his 2.4 million Instagram followers.

Baldwin donated $5,000 to the Marine's widow and her newborn daughter "as a tribute to a fallen soldier" after Rylee McCollum's death, the court papers said.

But on January 3, Baldwin posted about Roice McCollum after she shared a "throwback" photo of a crowd of pro-Trump protesters in front of the Washington Monument on January 6, 2021, "in anticipation" of the anniversary of the Capitol riot, the suit said.

"Are you the same woman that I sent the $ to for your sister's husband who was killed during the Afghanistan exit?" Baldwin's account commented on Roice McCollum's Instagram post. The suit said Baldwin then privately messaged her and accused her of being an "insurrectionist" and told her to "own it."

"When I sent the $ for your late brother, out of real respect for his service to this country, I didn't know you were a January 6th rioter," Baldwin messaged Roice McCollum, the lawsuit said. The suit said she replied, "Protesting is perfectly legal in the country and I've already had my sit down with the FBI. Thanks, have a nice day!"

The lawsuit said she attended the rally on January 6, 2021, in a "peaceful, law-abiding manner." Neither Cheyenne nor Jiennah McCollum were in Washington on the day of the Capitol riot, the suit said. The lawsuit alleged that Baldwin messaged Roice McCollum: "I reposted your photo. Good luck." It added that he then shared a post on his Instagram account calling claims that people were at the Capitol peacefully "bullshit" and saying he donated money to a soldier who died in Afghanistan. "Then I find this. Truth is stranger than fiction," he wrote, the lawsuit said.

An attorney for Baldwin did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Insider on Wednesday. The McCollums' lawsuit alleged that Roice got "hostile, aggressive, hateful messages from Baldwin's followers" within minutes of the post, including one message telling her to "get raped and die."

The McCollums said Baldwin "continued to engage his followers" and alleged he "fueled firestorm of hatred that he started." The family members accused Baldwin of defamation, invasion of privacy, and negligence. They are seeking at least $25 million in damages, according to the lawsuit.

Honestly, sending a check to the family for $5K sounds kind of tacky to me. Easy for me to say but in that place I wouldn't accept it.

Well, $25 million for name calling from an airhead like Baldwin may be a little much. The 5k gift seems tacky but I guess he was trying to be nice. I have mixed feelings about the whole "thank you for your service" thing. Its certainly good to appreciate what service members do for us, and the fact that many of them are killed or receive life changing injuries and disabilities from their service. At the same time, could it be largely a means for people who chose not to serve in the military to ease their guilty conscience?

This is something I feel acutely, because I was an able bodied 23 year old man on 9-11 and I believe I should have marched into the recruiting office and signed up right away because it was just the right thing to do. But I didn't because I've always been a coward about making life changing decisions, and have now aged out of eligibility to serve. I occasionally donate to DAV, both of my grandfathers were members of that organization. I would never put any DAV stickers on my car or anything like that, it wouldn't feel right. I also don't randomly say to service members "thank you for your service", which for some folks is high etiquette like bowing before the Queen. Why? Simply, it is not possible for me, the guy who just looked the other way and lived his merry life on 9-11, to "appreciate" or be "thankful" for what military people do for us.

The military isn’t for everyone. I tried the Navy and failed. Too young and immature. No regrets over the path I eventually took. I have respect for those that serve. Also bear in mind that people are still people first. I have a particular family member who put his 22 in the Air Force and yet is a disgusting human being, the uniform only barely covered his true nature

Alec has managed to settle his other legal case.
Alec Baldwin settles NYC parking spot altercation lawsuit

Alec Baldwin has settled a lawsuit with the man who accused the actor of punching him following an argument over a New York City parking spot.

Wojciech Cieszkowski and Baldwin have been locked in a court battle since 2019, after the "Saturday Night Live" star allegedly punched Cieszkowski in the face and pushed him.

Ciezkowski had allegedly taken a parking spot that Baldwin had been waiting for outside his NYC apartment.

Kudos to Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies for discovering something that isn't exactly ancient forgotten knowledge. Transfer bar mechanisms have been in use on revolvers since the 1960s for a reason. Very, very common example is a Ruger Single Six. Old model didn't have one, New Model does.

Means you load six and carry six - or however many your revolver holds. A specific series of actions is required to drop the transfer bar by pulling the trigger reduces the chances of an accidental discharge. Those antique revolvers lacked them and back in the day common practice was load one, skip one, load four. Carry hammer down on an empty cylinder. Either way, new or old style, ****ing about with the trigger can only bring about the entirely predictable result form the weapon.

Doesn't matter. The firearm safety is secondary - the primary safety is the person holding it. Apparently the DA knew enough to carefully check it out before their informal testing and those idiots on set did not, period.

Alec Baldwin may not have pulled trigger that killed 'Rust' cinematographer Halyna Hutchins: DA

An unofficial investigation will be launched by Mary Carmack-Altwies to test Alec Baldwin's claims that he did not pull the trigger while onset. Serge Svetnoy/Facebook
Alec Baldwin may have fired the shot that killed “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins without pulling the gun’s trigger, a New Mexico prosecutor says.

Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies told Vanity Fair she had watched Alec Baldwin’s bombshell interview with ABC in December and was drawn to the actor’s claim that he did not pull the trigger.

“You can pull the hammer back without actually pulling the trigger and without actually locking it,” Carmack-Altwies said. “So you pull it back partway, it doesn’t lock, and then if you let it go, the firing pin can hit the primer of the bullet.”

Baldwin had insisted in the interview that the trigger was never pulled.

“I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never,” the former “30 Rock” star said.

Carmack-Altwies launched an unofficial investigation of her own to test Baldwin’s claims that he had only pulled back the hammer of the gun before it went off, firing the live bullet that fatally struck Hutchins in the chest and wounded the film’s director Joel Souza, who was hit in the clavicle.

“I didn’t know too much about guns, certainly not about 1850s-era revolvers. So when I first heard that, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s crazy,’ ” she told Vanity Fair.

Santa Fe DA Mary Carmack-Altwies told Vanity Fair that even if the hammer is pulled partway — the firing pin can still hit the primer of the bullet.

The DA requested that one of her investigators bring his old-style revolver to her office to test if a mechanical malfunction could have caused the gun to go off. They cleared a room, and she had two investigators inspect the gun to confirm it was not loaded.

Her test revealed that the hammer could have caused the live round to fire, however official results from an FBI analysis of the weapon are still pending.

While Baldwin said he did not pull the trigger, a lawsuit filed by a “Rust” script supervisor in November alleges that he “intentionally” fired the gun at Hutchins.

Thing is, the gun was still in Baldwin's hand being pointed at someone else. If I, Mr. Average Guy, was holding a gun and it discharged and someone died, I would be cuffed and taken to jail. And wouldn't get out until the judge set bail or bond. Then the case would go to the grand jury, who would decide whether I go to trial or not. The fact that none of this has happened to Baldwin irks me.

One way or the other, whether Baldwin pulled the trigger or not, someone will be paying out for a wrongful death. It boils down to whether Baldwin has his name stained. Considering his track record, most people will still blame him.

wonder if the DA is star struck?

Nobody likes to make their job harder than it has to be, that is a human universal. I worked for a large police department for awhile and I could tell they really didn't like difficult cases against an entrenched and well-resourced adversary. She knows that Baldwin can probably outspend her office on this case and keep it tied up just on procedural grounds for years. Like every other prosecutor under the sun she is already covered up with cases. And of course, no clear indications that Baldwin intended to hurt anyone so we are looking at Reckless Homicide (Kentucky statute) at most.

I do believe that if Baldwin wasn't rich and famous he would be locked up right now, waiting on the grand jury. I don't think that most police and prosecutors intentionally come down harder on poor or average people, they just like easy wins like people in every other profession and that is where they get them. Just the reality of the situation.

Alec Baldwin says he was following Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins's orders and that she TOLD him to point the gun at her and pull the trigger: Claims his contract protects him from financial responsibility

Attorneys for Alec Baldwin on Friday filed an arbitration demand against his fellow Rust producers, claiming that the actor's contract protected him from financial responsibility related to Halyna Hutchins' death. The document also maintains that the actor was following the cinematographer's instructions when he pointed a gun at her and pulled the trigger, killing her.

Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins' lawyer slams 'shameful' Alec Baldwin for claiming SHE told him to fire the gun pointed at her as lawsuit reveals the actor 'wanted to FINISH $7M movie and planned to give proceeds to her family'

Attorney Brian Panish claimed Alec Baldwin, 63, was trying to minimize the role he played in the October 21 incident that killed Halyna Hutchins as Baldwin appeared to pass the blame onto the victim during an arbitration demand filed on Friday. Baldwin also claimed that his contract shielded him from any financial responsibility related to Hutchins' death and that the lawsuit against the actor filed by the victim's family was what prevented the $7 million movie's completion. Despite the tragedy, Baldwin, had attempted to convince cast and crew to finish filming 'Rust' in Hutchins' honor in the weeks after the shooting and have the proceeds from the movie go towards a settlement with the woman's husband, Matthew Hutchins, and nine-year-old son, according to the filings that also revealed Baldwin had been texting Matthew.

Absolutely zero sense of decency or shame. He'll be a pariah. Since he's so good at figuring out who did what and who is responsible we should ask him to have a look at some cold cases - maybe he can pinpoint Nicole Simpson's real killer.

Damning FBI report concludes that Alex Baldwin DID pull the gun trigger on set of Rust, killing cinematographer and injuring director - despite claiming he did NOT in an interview last year

Baldwin has consistently denied that he pulled the trigger on the gun in the incident in Santa Fe last year, but a new report concluded that it could not have been fired unless the trigger was pulled. The actor, 64, accidentally shot dead Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the set of his film 'Rust' in October 2021, and injured director Joel Souza. Baldwin has consistently denied that he pulled the trigger on the gun, which was supposed to be a prop, but a new report concluded that it could not have been fired unless the trigger was pulled.Part of the report found that the revolver, a single-action .45 Colt caliber F.lli Pietta, could not have been fired without someone pulling the trigger. They made the decision by conducting an accidental discharge test, but it is unclear if this was with the exact same gun or an identical copy. It states that the gun, when working properly, will not release a bullet and primer at the same time just by someone fiddling with the hammer - which is what Baldwin claimed happened.

He's an idiot unwilling to accept responsibility. He may not actually be culpable but his statements reveal him to be mealy mouthed and concerned only for himself. Some basic goddamned common sense safety would have prevented all this. The front wall of my range has many holes in it from safe unloaded guns.
