Aliens from other planets will look 'just like animals here on Earth'

If you look at the claims of alien encounters, most of the stories do seem to describe creatures that are in some way terrestrial in appearance -- reptilian, insectoid, humanoid, etc. Whether or not these creatures are truly earthlike is very subjective, so any opinion is arguably valid.

Including black widow spiders, accursed little devils, I will crush the life out of every one of them that crosses my path for the rest of my life, no mercy...

...

if you think this is all God's Creation then so is your shoe :)

They all suffer some degree of anthropomorphism, don't they ?

Either it's the Star Trek version of an evolutionary budget consideration or it's US making it all up or - as I think might be the case - interpreting what we see with the tools we got in da box. I've made the comment elsewhere that when you yell at your fish bowl what does the fish think? Maybe we just don't get it, we see what our brains can interpret.

Another thing I wonder about. Why would anyone want to land and make a big proclamation at all? Isolated cases, fleeting glimpses haven't engendered anything much except an ineffective military response. What was that planet from TOS Galileo Seven ? Why the hell would Captain Kirk want to beam down there and sort out their aggressive factionalism? Maybe waving at the little gigantic caveman monsters from afar is sufficient.

One thing I wonder about is the fact that Earth is really a water planet. Our oceans are teeming with fairly remarkable life forms. Certainly there must be a lot of aquatic races that visit the planet. If you watch some of the shows on The History Channel you're aware of the claims many make about USOs.

But, yeah, like you said, Pigfarmer, most of the reported aliens do seem to have a lot of human attributes. You don't hear many stories about blob or smoke creatures abducting humans.
