I agree wholeheartedly with you that no one here is making an airtight case for a paranormal cause of the phenomena. Yes, I give anonymous witness accounts much less credit than I would for named witnesses. I still enjoy studying it personally, and I have chosen to reserve ultimate judgment on most of the things I study. Most of the famous UFO and mutilation incidents happened before everybody had cell phone cameras in their pocket. Most witnesses encountered these things in their daily activities, they did not know that today would be a really good day to pack a camera. When hundreds of level headed individuals start describing the same eerie phenomenon and many of the cases have no compelling explanation, I think that is worthy of study and documentation even if we never find a smoking gun. Upon reading his book, I find that O'Brien states the same thing in so many words.

They are certainly fun to read....beyond that there isn't much we can learn from these tales that we don't already know....which is that people claim to see odd things and have strange experiences. Wouldn't it be nice to actually have some objective evidence in just one of these cases that O'Brien and others relate in their books.?

Which is why some, like Dr Vallee and a few others, have thought about looking into alternate answers like human consciousness and even other dimensional beings. Granted this is also far out there but if the shoe fits.....?

Some cattle mutilations also happened during a Bigfoot flap in Henderson County, KY in the 1950's. The 'Squatches were getting all the attention in the press, so not much was being written about dead livestock at the time. Also, the Bigfoot witnesses were being openly ridiculed, which likely discouraged people from reporting the mutilations.
