Actually, now that I am paying a bit more attention the actual answer is: the fuse is selected based on the size of the smallest conductor in the circuit. Don't want to melt anything before the fuse snaps.

Yeah, sticky 80w oil will do that. I've always worried about its ability to flow through tiny orifices that modern engines have.

Gear oil I'd think. I run 80W-90 in the differentials on the Olds, the 'vette and my F150. In fact, that's a Lucas display and that's what I used.

I can't stand the smell of that stuff.

Got this for $20 off eBay and its a handy bugger although I don't use it that often. Its from an era where a 'battery powered hand held tool' meant 'flashlight' :)

That last post brought back memories.

The last company in a series of them that my business unit was absorbed by was Black Box. Somewhere here I have this catalog from 1985. Phone in your order to put it in a lick & stick envelope and wait days......
RS-232, RS-522, modems the size of breadboxes, breakout boxes, teletypewriters. I worked on all that stuff and a lot more (and don't miss it). That stuff hung on a long, long time in a tech environment that evolves very quickly.
