There should be math software that can check his proof for correctness if converted to a standard form.

42 is the answer to a specific question.

Despite the fact the earth was built, twice, just to find out what the question was, it was never stated in the book.

As a side note, while Deep Thought laid it on pretty deep other words come to mind for the rest of his name.

Was part of a packet switch design team that used the 68020 (32 bit address) so I am more familiar with that chip and might still be able to write boot code for it.

Designed lots of things. Earth stations. Packet switch. Did something that required Xylinx programming. Was part of a mainframe design team. That drove me nuts because I was simulating the multiplier and got to the point I could do 32 bit IEEE floating point in my head. Did microsequencer testing for one of the GOES sounder units.
