For over a year, every time I visited Facebook I was confronted with notifications from a sample of news stories that Facebook decided I should see. It was annoying, because it could not be turned off, and the red notification alert would not turn off unless I clicked on it. Come to find out, Facebook was paying for those news stories.
They eventually got tired of shelling out the money, so the annoying notifications have disappeared. These articles seem ambivalent regarding the change, but I am pleased, regardless of Facebook's motivations.
