A rescue mission has been launched after the guided-missile destroyer USS John S McCain was damaged after colliding with an oil tanker off the coast of Singapore.
The US navy said the warship had “sustained damage to her port side aft” in the collision with the Alnic MC east of the straits of Malacca and Singapore.
“Search and rescue efforts” were underway in coordination with local authorities after the incident at 5.24am local time on Monday, the Navy said in a statement posted on the website of the commander of the US Pacific fleet
.
“In addition to tug boats out of Singapore, the republic of Singapore navy ship RSS Gallant, RSN helicopters and police coast guard vessel Basking Shark are currently in the area to render assistance,” it said.
The US warship was “currently sailing under its own power” to Singapore, the navy statement said, where it had been due for a routine port visit. The “extent of damage and personnel injuries is being determined”. The incident would be investigated, it said.
The US ship is named after the father of Arizona senator John McCain, who tweeted that he was praying for the crew.

Sounds like there is something wrong with the onboard navigational systems or collision warning monitors.
What could be wrong? One..maybe two..human error but 4? These are highly trained crew.
This has happened too many times to be operator error. It could be the backdoors engineered into Chinese chips.

SINGAPORE, Aug 28 (Reuters) - The U.S. Navy on Monday confirmed recovery of the remains of all 10 sailors killed after the warship John S. McCain collided with a merchant vessel in waters near Singapore and Malaysia.
The guided-missile destroyer collided with the Alnic MC east of Singapore last week while approaching the city state on a routine port visit.
“The U.S. navy and marine corps divers have now recovered the remains of all 10 USS John S.McCain sailors,” the Seventh Fleet said in a statement on its website.
Being a (former) US Naval Reserve Seaman, this simply leaves me stunned. I don't even want to say what I think and won't comment further here except with words to honor the dead.
