The cremated remains of Buddha/Siddhartha Gautama have been found in China. The inscription on the box says "they belong to Buddha."

In what could be an enormously significant finding for Buddhists around the world, archaeologists in China have unearthed an ancient ceramic box containing cremated human remains, which carries an inscription saying they belong to Buddha, also known as Siddhārtha Gautama.

Siddhartha Gautama, also known as the Buddha or “Enlightened One,” is probably one of the most influential individuals to come out of India through the founding of Buddhism. He is believed to have lived and taught mostly in the eastern part of ancient India sometime between the 6 th and 4 th centuries BC. According to the Mahaparinibbana Sutta of the Pali canon, at the age of 80, the Buddha announced that he would soon reach Parinirvana, or the final deathless state, and abandon his earthly body.

After his death, Buddha's cremation relics are said to have been divided amongst 8 royal families and his disciples. Legends say that, centuries later, they were enshrined by King Ashoka into 84,000 stupas. Many of the remains were supposedly taken to other countries.

Now all they have to find is Jesus's bones, they found his box but he wasn't in it.

A box of human remains was discovered by Chinese villagers. The inscription says they are those of the Buddha

This explains why.

If they clean the bones carefully they should be able to carbon date them.

They might even get lucky and recover some DNA.

Again, if he was in there and they get real lucky they might recover some DNA.

It is always funny to me that Jesus is always portrayed as tall, fair skinned with long hair.

How many folks from that part of the world do you know that fit that description,

It is far more likely that if he even existed in the way described, or at all, he was shorter with dark skin and curly hair. More distortion by the church. Who would ever know the truth.

At least we know Buddha really existed. Be great to somehow verify his remains.

No, unfortunately it is probably not possible to verify with any real certainty what Abraham looked like. Presumably, if he was born in Ur of the Chaldeans, located in modern-day southern Iraq, he would have had dark wavy hair, an olive complexion; an appearance characteristic of the populations that have lived in this region for millennia: Kurds, Turkmen, Jews, Armenians, etc. We can look to the Song of Songs for an description of what the Israelite ideal of beauty was

Well, we know Cleopatra was a hot euro-asian.

So white for Jesus is in the realm of possibility. The sephardim are if anything darker than Jesus.

But if they can scrape some DNA off the box, we won't have to guess.
