Burt Reynolds (pictured center in April) went into cardiac arrest at a hospital in Florida on Thursday with his family at his side. Reynolds was best known for his roles in 1977's Smokey and the Bandit (top right), 1972's Deliverance (left) and 1997's Boogie Nights - the last of which earned him an Oscar nomination. He was also filming Quentin Tarantino's new movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood alongside Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio. The film is expected to hit theaters in 2019. Reynolds' health was previously a concern and the actor underwent heart surgery in 2010.

Crap. Another good one gone.

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
We're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.

It makes you wonder sometimes. Reynolds pissed away millions of dollars and found himself broke. Where did it all go? The same goes for Dawn Wells (Gilligan’s Island fame.) At age 79 she is broke and having a friend start a ‘Go Fund Me’ account. She finds herself $200k in the hole and she doesn’t know how she got this way.

It's not so much of a math oversite, I've known wealthy people like that, not like celebrities, But, people... At times, They have so much money, They don't have to worry about balancing a chequebook or even looking into their finances so it's a habit they develop. They aren't really crazy spenders, They buy things like normal people do, Minus the worry or running out of money, Because the ideology is, if they have three million in the bank, they aren't going to run out overnight by splurging a little bit. Sooner or later though, All the not keeping up with cheques and balances hits the wall and they are broke and they never saw it coming. I've seen this happen personally to three different people. A lot of times people with money like that, Will have dependents, " People who are close or family. who they allow free reign to spend their money for various reasons. It's my guess in some of these cases, Their good nature is what happened to their money.

Yeah well it must've been an interesting ride. I believe she got busted a while ago for mailed pot to Gilligan.

I saw him in a commercial recently where he was sitting in the driver's seat of a car. He had back problems from stunt work.

He has 187 works to his credit:

I realize there's more to him than one or two movies, but I liked them a lot ... and had a crush on Sally Field.

There's a whole following of mostly fat middle aged men who drive T/As and idolize Smokey and the Bandit and know every scene by heart. Fans can't go out and build a Millennium Falcon or USS Enterprise but you certainly can go get yourself a cool old Pontiac and a cowboy hat and burn a few tires off. Unfortunately in his last years I have seen Burt signing virtually anything to capitalize on that and saw a video of him nearly falling over at an appearance. Sad.

Regardless, he invented a brand of cool all his own and most of us would be lucky to have 1% of that. No matter how hokey they look now if I had a holodeck (a common theme for me) he and Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason would be on it - and probably Dom DeLuise for good measure too, because you never expect Captain USA

EDIT -
and of course Sally Field ....

Give me a diablo sandwich, a Dr. Pepper, and make it quick, I'm in a god-damn hurry.

The thing I liked most about Burt would probably be that he's from a different time, When men had to be men, and there was no confusion or crossing of lines. I can promise you, Even though Burt could not have kicked Bruce lees ass, He wouldn't have backed down from it. That was a real man. Looking a Burt Reynolds was like looking at a role model. At least for the time period.

Interesting is an understatement in some cases, Mick Fleetwood lost it all on bad business deals but also on a LOT of drugs  Andy Gibb blew his millions all in relation to and because of drugs :ohmy8: Johnny Depp is about broke wasting money and just being a prick :cool8:....Mickey Rooney was a different sort though, declaring bankruptcy after wasting a huge fortune that could have possibly outlived him, but he mismanaged his pots of gold and blew it all, then spent decades rebuilding his financial empire only to get caught up in gambling and he gambled just about all of it away up until his death...Some get on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and don't want to get off...:tongue8:

Yeah, As far As I know, That's a True story, Bob Denver told everyone it was hers.

I always thought that was something people didn't do was play the blame game, Apparently, You couldn't trust Gilligan not to rat you out lol. I've seen this like five times, This is how I like to remember them before all the bad stuff happened.

You never think that celebrities in their prime will ever get old, but they do. His family said it was totally unexpected. He was frail looking, he used a cane, he had a previous heart condition and he was 82 years old.

The movie ‘Deliverance’ was unfortunately up against movies like ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Cabaret’ for the 1973 Oscars. Bad timing.

he's from a different time

A different time indeed. No CGI, no slow motion fly-through-the-air martial arts, no .... whatever that movies can't be made without today. Just an observation, not a criticism of current movie making.

For whatever reason I was thinking about stars from that era and Clint Eastwood and Gran Torino came to mind. Not quite Burt Reynolds but same vintage. Those two didn't need 23" biceps to make their point. In this scene neither the pickup truck or the pipe wrench or Clint seem to have been upgraded. I hate to drag out a worn cliche but they don't make 'em like that anymore.
