China Cashes in off Coronavirus

As the novel coronavirus sweeps across the world, some countries are finding themselves in a difficult situation. Low on supplies or money, traditional American allies like Spain, Italy, France and Japan have had to turn to China for help.

"China creates the poison and sells the solution to it,"
foreign affairs expert Gordon Chang told Fox News.

China has used its money, medical equipment and teams of doctors and nurses in a high-stakes campaign to show the world that while the United States scrambles to contain the novel coronavirus within its borders, China is busy moving in on some of America's closest allies.

"Never let a good crisis go to waste," Dimitar Bechev, a senior fellow in the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center, wrote. "There is no better illustration that the medical supplies and crews of doctors China has been supplying to Italy and other European countries battling COVID-19. Beijing does carry a large share of the blame for the global pandemic... but now it seeks to shape the narrative of the crisis unfolding before our eyes."

China has also been floating the idea that it has donated all of the medical supplies out of concern for the world. That's not the case, Chang said. "A lot of the stuff that China claims has been donated has not been donate," he said. "It's been sold."

China has come through for several countries but, in some, it has fallen short of expectations.

In Spain, for example, Health Minister Salvador Illa announced Wednesday that the country had bought $467 million in medical supplies from China, including 950 ventilators, 5.5 million testing kits, 11 million gloves and more than half a billion protective face masks.

Soon after receiving the supplies, the Spanish government announced plans to return 9,000 "quick result" test kits to China, El Pais reported, because they were deemed substandard, specifically the sensibility of the test was around 30 percent, when it should be higher than 80 percent.

China admitted that the kits they sold to Spain were bought from Bioeasy, a Chinese company not licensed to make them.

The time and money Spain wasted on faulty supplies could have devastating effects on a country that is now in its second week of a national lockdown after cases of COVID-19 spiked.

Spain now has at least 49,515 confirmed coronavirus cases, according to its Ministry of Health. Of that number, 8,000 people were confirmed to have the virus in the past 24 hours. Nearly 27,000 people remain hospitalized as Spain scrambles to contain the virus.

In Italy, Beijing sent more than 300 Chinese intensive-care doctors to help the country, which has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases behind China. As of Thursday, Italy has 74,386 cases of the coronavirus compared to China's 81,782 cases.

Though the country has close ties with the United States, Italy has turned to China, Russia and Cuba for help.

Chinese teams arrived in mid-March with medical equipment and experts who told the Italian government that its lockdown was too weak. Italy took China's advice and tightened the screws, making sure people had protective masks and practiced social distancing. China also sent over shipments of medical supplies with a gigantic Chinese flag displayed on the supplies that read, "The friendship road knows no borders."

A few days after the supplies started arriving, China's President Xi Jinping called Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and told him that China wants to help Italy in its times of crisis and build a "Health Silk Road," NPR reported, adding that Italy was the first G7 country to endorse China's Belt and Road global infrastructure initiative.

Then came the Russians.

Nine Ilyushin 76 planes from Russia arrived in Italy crammed with epidemiologists, virologists, medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. The Italian media dubbed the help from Moscow as "From Russia With Love," a nod to the 1963 James Bond movie.

"Never had so many Russian planes and personnel landed before in a NATO country," La Repubblica wrote.

Giulio Gallera, the Lombardy regional councilor for health services, purportedly smiled widely when he announced the arrival of Russian doctors at Papa Giovanni Hospital in Bergamo, Italy's coronavirus epicenter.

Then it was Cuba's turn.

Thirty-seven Cuban doctors and 15 nurses, who had previously battled Ebola in Africa, showed up in Italy ready to help the country.

Pictures taken of Cuba's medical posse was posted on Italy's Civil Protection Agency Facebook page. While some of the comments thanked China, Russia and Cuba for their help, others slammed the United States, a longtime Italy ally, for not showing up in any meaningful way, NPR reported.

China also sent France some much needed medical supplies. A March 18 tweet from the Chinese Embassy confirmed the supplies -- which included face masks, medical gloves and protective suits -- had arrived. The tweet concluded with "United we will vanquish."

Beijing has also come to Japan's rescue.

When the Princess Diamond cruise ship docked in Japan, China donated testing kits to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Japan.

A team of seven specialists from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed up in Iraq on March 7 and have pledged to stay a month to help Baghdad help with testing, treatment and follow-up care of sick patients, China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported.

In neighboring Iran, China had sent over a team of experts on February 29. When the United States tried to offer aid to their longtime adversary, the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei refused it. Instead, the ayatollah questioned America's motives and then began pushing one bizarre lie after another. He alleged without any evidence that COVID-19 "is specifically built for Iran using the genetic data of Iranian which they have obtained through different means."

His comments prompted U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to tweet: "The U.S. has offered $100M+ in medical aid to other nations - including Iran - and our scientists are working 24/7 to develop a vaccine. @khamenei_ir has rejected American offers and spends 24/7 concocting conspiracy theories. How does that help the Iranian people."

Other countries China has helped during the pandemic include the Philippines, where Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian handed over 100,000 test kits, 10,000 personal protective equipment, 100,000 surgical masks and 10,000 N95 masks.

In the Czech Republic, Chang said 80 percent of the kits China sold were either "faulty or produced inaccurate results."

As part of its global campaign, China's presence was also felt in the Ethiopia, Liberia and Serbia.

Earlier this month, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic pleaded for China's help during a televised address.

"European solidarity does not exist," Vucic said. "That was a fairy tale on paper. I believe in my brother and friend Xi Jinping, and I believe in Chinese help."

Peter Navarro, a senior Trump administration trade official has signaled that the United States wasn't too proud to say yes to Chinese masks, gown goggles and other equipment but told The New York Times that the administration "will object to any Chinese effort to turn deliveries into fodder for propaganda that could bolster China's image at home and abroad."

China now produces 116 million masks a day, 12 times more than it used to.

The mid fourteenth century saw them taking advantage of Europe after giving them a dose. They actually launched infected corpses into the enemies forts. The first ever recorded act of biological warfare.

China pretty much allowed the spawning of this virus by keeping their disgusting animal markets in business and now theyre profiting off of it. If anything all the world should send the bill of the damages to China, tough i know thats not going to happen.

Idk - I have a hard time blaming China for selling medical supplies, when it was our own government and sociopathic corporations that exported our entire industrial sector to China in order to exploit their slave wage labor.

If our ruling class had placed our national security ahead of virtually limitless profits, we wouldn't be in the shitstorm we're in right now, and instead we'd be churning out medical respirators and ventilators by the thousands. And the government would be paying American companies for those products, instead of paying Communist China for them.

Strange how we're suddenly cool with Communism now that it's making us money, and yet we still have some big problem with Russia even though they're not even Communist anymore. Kinda looks like the entire Cold War was just one of many excuses to overfund the defense and intelligence industries, huh?

I think the reparations should be paid not just for the fact that they allowed this trade in wildlife to occur in their cities, like Wuhan, which caused both SARS 2 and SARS 1. And not just for the fact that the local authorities sought to downplay this epidemic in the beginning which prevented effective action to contain it. It is also for the fact that China exerted diplomatic pressure on other countries by chiding them not to 'overreact' by placing restrictions on people flying from abroad from China into their countries. China is currently now 'overreacting' to anyone travelling in from abroad.

I totally agree that China should be held accountable in some way, at the very least all of the medical supplies they are providing should be given at a very minimal cost, since many of them are subpar and have to be returned wasting more time...

Downing Street says China faces a 'reckoning' over the coronavirus and risks becoming a 'pariah state' as Boris Johnson faces pressure to scrap the Huawei deal

Ministers and senior Downing Street officials said the Communist state now faces a ‘reckoning’ over its handling of the outbreak and risks becoming a ‘pariah state’. They are furious over China’s campaign of misinformation, attempts to exploit the pandemic for economic gain and atrocious animal rights record. The Prime Minister, who now faces Cabinet calls to reverse his decision to let controversial Chinese firm Huawei build large parts of Britain’s new 5G telecoms network, today warns that the epidemic is likely to worsen in the coming weeks – but that he expects the British ‘spirit’ to overcome the crisis.

China is handed a position on UN Human Rights Council despite long-record of human rights abuses and wide-spread suspicions they have lied over coronavirus

China has been been given a place on the UN Human Rights Council despite a long-record of human rights abuses. The coronavirus outbreak originated in China late last year, reportedly in the ‘wet’ livestock markets in the city of Wuhan.

The country has recorded 3,326 deaths from coronavirus and 81,639 cases but many speculate that this number is much higher and that China is trying to cover up the true reality of the spread. Delay and deceit over the origins of the outbreak cost precious time — and many thousands of lives both in China and subsequently in the rest of the world.

But now Jiang Duan, minister at the Chinese Mission in Geneva, has been appointed to the UN Human Rights Council’s Consultative Group where he will serve as the representative of the Asia-Pacific states. He will serve as one of five representatives for blocs of countries and is joined by delegates from Spain, Slovenia and Chad.

A new US intelligence report leaked this week suggested the Chinese Communist Party is still lying about the true number of cases and deaths. It has led to an increasingly intense war of words between it and the US. The intelligence community handed over a classified report to the White House last week, one of the officials told Bloomberg News, and the report concluded that China's numbers are fake.

'Don't take us for mugs': Australian politicians launch an incredible attack on the Chinese Communist Party for 'failing to contain the coronavirus' as relationship hits an all-time low

Australian politicians have launched a scathing attack on the Chinese Communist Party who they say failed to contain the killer coronavirus. Senior Liberal and Labor MPs said China must reap the economic consequences after misleading information about the coronavirus.

One MP blamed China for the deadly coronavirus, which has seen 1,119,801 people across the world infected and 59,247 dead. Australia's current positive cases sits at 5,550 with 30 dead as of Saturday. The harsh comments made by politicians may bring Australia's already troubling relationship with the communist country to a new low.

Liberal Andrew Hastie and Labor's Anthony Byrne both said there would have to be discussion in how Australia works with China following the virus outbreak. 'The Australian people aren't mugs. They know how COVID-19 started and how the CCP lied about it,' Mr Hastie told the Daily Telegraph.

He insisted that Australia won't be 'bought off' no matter how much medical supplies the Chinese send over to help manage COVID-19. Mr Byrne said there has been a significant impact of the global supply chain and China's responsibility regarding the virus must be addressed.

Peter Navarro: China 'cornered' the personal protective equipment market and 'is profiteering' during coronavirus outbreak

White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro said during an exclusive interview on “Sunday Morning Futures” that China "cornered" the personal protective equipment (PPE) market during the coronavirus outbreak and “is profiteering.”

Navarro, who is also the National Defense Production Act policy coordinator, made the comment on Sunday reacting to a recent Fox News report, which cited multiple sources, that there is increasing confidence that the COVID-19 outbreak likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory, though not as a bioweapon but as part of China's attempt to demonstrate that its efforts to identify and combat viruses are equal to or greater than the capabilities of the United States.

Navarro, who was one of the first to warn about the novel coronavirus, noted “China did [several things] over the course of this thing,” which, he said, “led to the deaths of many people worldwide.”

“First of all, the virus was spawned in China. Second of all, they hid the virus behind the shield of the World Health Organization. The third thing they did was basically hoard personal protective equipment and now they’re profiteering from it,” Navarro told host Maria Bartiromo, referencing the fact that many states have been dealing with a shortage of PPE for health care workers during the coronavirus crisis

Sources believe the initial transmission of the virus – a naturally occurring strain that was being studied there – was bat-to-human and that "patient zero" worked at the laboratory, then went into the population in Wuhan.

The sources explained that there was an extensive cover-up of data and information about COVID-19 orchestrated by the Chinese government. Documents detail early efforts by doctors at the lab and early efforts at containment. The Wuhan wet market initially identified as a possible point of origin never sold bats, and the sources tell Fox News that blaming the wet market was an effort by China to deflect blame from the laboratory, along with the country's propaganda efforts targeting the U.S. and Italy.

On Thursday, China’s foreign ministry pushed back on the suspicion that the virus escaped from the facility, by citing statements from the World Health Organization that there is no evidence the coronavirus came from a laboratory.

China moved quickly to shut down travel domestically from Wuhan to the rest of China, but did not stop international flights from Wuhan. Additionally, the sources tell Fox News the World Health Organization (WHO) was complicit from the beginning in helping China cover its tracks. “What we know is that the ground zero for this virus was within a few miles of that lab,” Navarro noted. “I think it's incumbent on China to prove that it wasn't that lab,” Navarro went on to say.

He added that “more importantly, we know that for a critical six-week period of time, China used its influence at the World Health Organization to hide the virus from the world. This was a time where that virus could have been contained in Wuhan; instead, 5 million Chinese people went out from Wuhan and propagated the virus around the world.”

Navarro went on to explain what he thinks “should be very disturbing to every American.”

“During that period of time, that six-week interval when they were hiding this virus from the world, China went from a net exporter of personal protective equipment, they are the largest producer of that in the world, to a large net importer,” Navarro said. “They basically went around and vacuumed up virtually all of the PPE around the world, including a lot from this country, which was for humanitarian reasons sharing our PPE with them, and what that did was leave people in New York, Milan, and everywhere in-between defenseless when it came time to have that PPE.”

“Now what's happening today, which is equally alarming, is China is sitting on that hoard of PPE where it cornered the market and is profiteering,” he continued. “I have cases that are coming across my desk where $0.50 masks made in China are being sold to hospitals here in America for as much as $8.”
