Wondering if anyone here does this and what level are you? Narcolepsy makes it quite easy for me at every level though I do not often pursue them at the higher levels. Darkness nor closed eye is necessary for me as I can perceive it with open eyes in full light. Would like to confer with others at this level. I am speaking of those who have attained these levels naturally without meditation, sensory deprivation or hallucinogenic drugs.
What I find interesting about CEVs is the theory that the form constant light shows are actually biophotons being emitted from the brain and perceived by the visual cortex. A photon is an elementary particle that demonstrates the wave-particle duality. (Forgive my rudimentary scientific knowledge here but I was never very good with hard core physics.) Phosphenes are now thought to be biophotons emitted from various internal sources. Typically, phosphenes are only detectable when emitted due to mechanical stimulation, electrical stimulation or certain hallucinogenic drugs.
CEVs result from none of the above. The phosphenes or biophotons evidenced in the geometric form constants perceived during CEVs are produced by neural processes that are not, at this time, clearly defined or identified. I find this interesting because of what happens at the higher levels of CEVs. I believe the first few levels should be natural to everyone and it shouldn't take a lot to achieve the higher levels. Try this experiment...once the geometric light show begins, think of a shape. Don't attempt to see the shape in your mind's eye rather attempt to see the shape amid the swirls of light. When the shape clearly rises, it will be a dark mass and outlined in light...like the moon in front of the sun. The shape will be 3d as opposed to the 2d of mental imagery. You will note the difference when you experience it. Simplistic shapes are the best to start with but in time details can be obtained and the shape held for greater lengths of time. The interesting aspect of this is that the 3d shape is being fashioned out of the manipulation of elementary particles of light by thought alone. The mind is manipulating elementary particles to create a 3d form. Though its existence is fleeting, it is the Mind manipulating matter to create reality in our physical world. Because the form is made of matter and 3d, can it be truly said to be existent or should we continue to pretend that it is an hallucinatory 2d image in the mind simply because we do not grasp how mind can manipulate matter at will to create reality? Further, can we regard the form as 4d because the matter exists in the normal spatial 3 dimensions with shape being the abstract concept that is the 4 dimension?
Another note: hallucinations are physical phenomena and are not indicative of mental illness. Hallucinations accompanied by delusion, which is an abnormal thought process (mental), are. The key of differentiation is 'delusion'. Delusion exists when the belief that a thing is real (i.e. a hallucinatory image) despite evidence to the contrary or where no evidence exists. Being unable to recognize the delusion is the hallmark. As they say, 'crazy people don't know they're crazy'
What we doing here, though, is examining this natural phenomena, examining the evidence and asking what, how and why. I think, by and large, we are afraid to examine our minds and the nature of reality too closely. I think we are afraid that the truth of what we are would either prove too overwhelming or too disappointing.
